what to pack to boarding school (essentials) // uwc

here's a list of what i consider essential to pack to boarding school. this year i graduated from the united world college of costa rica (uwccr) as many of you know, but this video should apply to any student unsure of what they should be packing to their school abroad. i hope this helps!! if you have any more questions, leave them below and i'll get back to you asap xx

haha it's up to you! you could, if you have the time and patience, but i think you'd notice if someone else was wearing your clothes because boarding schools usually have so few students, but go ahead! i'm not really sure about the laptop. maybe ask your school in particular, it may have specific requirements

From my experience, I would recommend a MacBook Air, and if you have room in your dorm I would also recommend getting a cheap curved monitor that you can connect your Laptop to it really saved my eyes.

oh no not at all!! you just need to know basic english which is the standard language of all uwcs (but don't worry if it isn't perfect, you'll improve while you're there). it's up to you whether you chose to learn the local language. the uwc in costa rica is the exception - it's the only bilingual one, so you need to either know spanish or english (no need for both though!) 😊😊

im not exactly sure what kind of class you're talking about, but you have to take 2 language courses in the ib. they can be at any level, so they'll definitely help to improve your language skills

also, you generally improve quite a bit in english at least because you'll be practicing by talking to all the people around you. there is absolutely no expectation that you speak perfect english, and there are definitely resources and activities you can take part in to help you improve faster. ultimately, language is reinforced by practice. so it's up to you whether you engage in discussions with others

I just got accepted to UWC Atlantic College (Wales) literally today and I am literally shaking from the fear, excitement, anxiousness and just nervousness from just thinking of going there and heck I’m debating if I should go go there or Taunton International School (another school that I also got accepted in) and idk what to do and which one is better or worse and I feel like I’m gonna have a panic attack from all this ngl. Like idk if UWC is for me or not but after watching these videos I’m starting to get the feeling that it’s going to have to be a leap of faith and I feel like UWC Atlantic is gonna be the right choice for me

so 3rd year student would be someone like me. i just graduated - meaning i had my first, my second year, and now im in my "third year"

haha yes you're done studying at uwc, but you're still part of the movement. so you're basically still considered included. ultimately it just a way to identify each other within the uwc world

a lot of the top boarding schools offer major financial aid if you qualify
