the part of this podcast where they talked about self-identity really touched me in a way. as a Korean who grew up in the States for about 10yrs, back to Korea for my teens, and now im in friggn China for Uni, im always feeling out of place when just hanging out with other people. my interests are sooo different from the Koreans; im not quite yet used to Chinese culture; and despite consuming Western media the most, i dont consider myself 'American'. tbh i dont think ive ever struggled in relationships (maybe some name-calling in elementary), but i just have some moments where i think about these things. anyways really i enjoyed this podcast!

The way I think about the parenting conversation stuff is that "should" is not "is". In other words, saying that "it shouldn't be my job" doesn't have ANY bearing on whether or not it IS your job. I respect the frustration with recognizing the reality of what has become your job, or for a job having responsibilities that you never signed up for, but at some point you do have to recognize reality and adjust to the situation you find yourself in.
@NightWing18002 жыл бұрын
On the other hand, sometimes "It shouldn't be my job" is 100% right. There's a responsibility a streamer has to recognize that they do influence people's behavior, even though there's also a responsibility viewers have for their own actions and behavior, but sometimes people will say "You should do this" to push people into a position they aren't comfortable in. Like Poki is the biggest female twitch streamer and she holds that position without really pushing boundaries on sexual content. That can inspire a lot of women to be on this platform and not have to do things with their body they aren't comfortable with to feel like they deserve an audience. But I think it would be weird to try to regulate Poki's behave as this representative of women in gaming and say "Well you should do this" or "you shouldn't do that." and kind of pressuring her to fit a box so that other women can be in that box. Because it isn't Poki's job to be a paragon of womanhood in gaming. She still gets to be an individual and try things or enjoy things that might not be popular. I do agree with your sentiment, I just think sometimes people take a similar sentiment and then push it too far in a disrespectful or dehumanizing way.
@jake84732 жыл бұрын
@@NightWing1800 that's a really good caveat/ clarification. My "should/is" distinction is really a mindset I have for myself, not a thing to force on others. Demanding or expecting public figures to strictly adhere to your moral code is unhealthy for everyone.

It was a great move to have Poki host the podcast this time around. I think it's a good idea to rotate between the OTV members, actually - I think it's where you can see the members really shine as individuals and see how they're like when it comes to having discussions. Some comments mention that it'd be chaotic to have Michael as the host, and I can understand why they think that, but I honestly believe Michael is hard to predict as a host because he's normally so quiet and calm during podcasts. He was pretty chill during Toast's coding and robot-building stream as well, so I can't see him as someone to lead the conversation in podcast settings whereas Poki and Toast - even Lily - are much more likely to lead questions and be inquisitive.

Related to Myth's neuroscience comment--there are a lotta researchers really interesting in using AI to better understand lots of processes going on in the brain, and some of these folks do overlap with computer science as well, such as people working on AI image recognition. It's definitely a field with lots of cool science to still grow into, so it's never too late to get into it :)

The real name vs streamer name bit was good. There are some streamers who I think it's perfectly OK to call their real name, like Fuslie - pretty much everyone calls her Leslie. Then there are people like QTCinderella, where even Ludwig refers to her as QT and no one calls her Blaire.
