As a french person, Le petit prince (The little Prince) was a book I read a lot as a kid ! I think I'm still a child at heart because of it ! So of course when that movie was released I went to watch it. And I liked it but I thought that the second part was too much. Because I thought it would have been better to just let that girl leaving without knowing what happens next, that it was prettier. I thought that finally seeing what became of the prince was spoiling the poetic end of the book. But hearing you defend it and telling your view convinced me there could have been more that I thought at the time. (It was 6 years ago after all) Maybe I should watch it again.

Personally, I think that they'd isn't show the lamp lighter in the movie is because the mother's planet is meant to replace it. The same way the Lamplighter would light it every minute, just because of the rules, even though they're no longer relevant, the mother would move the chips every five minutes because of a set of rules made for the little girl that meant nothing to her anymore.

I love how this isn't an adaptation, BUT the aftermath of the aviator and the world after the princes death. And I love how the movie still included the story of the book (except some of the planets) and managed 2 beautiful art styles with beautiful effects and colors. The message is very clear, and I can see it speaking to some people in a deeper level. I really wish more people talked about this movie, as I absolutely loved it, and it is one of the best storys I have ever seen

You know! The reason they might have gone for those three men in the movie it's because in children’s theater plays those three are always highlighted over the others as a lesson for the kids in the audience. I remember seeing plays of the book as a child and those three were the 3 best known. So I didn't think it was too weird when they focused on them in the movie. It made me super nostalgic and it was one of the reasons I got so attached to the movie 🥰 The message is so simple and clear and lovely. I loved your analysis!

Oh, I also had a leading role of the Little Prince in my school’s theather play as a child! (Even though I was one of the four students with the same role. We had to do a switcheroo with every actor for the every story sequence)

So I just assumed he knew he was going to die too... Well, kind of. It was a very fantastical story, so sometimes I still belived that he could have died and still made it back to his planet at the same time?

I remember I first watched the movie on the plane when my mum told me it was a funny movie and when I watched it, my small self felt so many feelings as I put myself in the shoes of the main character while also understanding the rest of the characters and the little prince. I was able to absorb the message of the movie because of that, and when I watched it again (cuz Sky: cotl had an event based on the Little Prince) i felt those feelings once again, but was disappointed by how my mother didn’t understand it and my siblings only finding it to be an okay movie. It’s honestly such a nice adaptation and I was so happy when you posted this. Thank you!

I remember when my first long-distance girlfriend urged me to watch the film. After we broke up, the film became a comfort for me. We broke up because we were very young (13 and 13) and yet it wasn't on bad terms. It was one of the few things she left me in a way. So yeah, this is an amazing film. Especially now that I'm older and can truly understand the message at play.

We had a conversation about this version of The Little Prince under your previous video about Peter Pan 2 so it's a bit surreal to see it covered by you. I saw The Little Prince in the theaters when it came out and it was the best theater experience I ever had - it was only me, my brother, and two elderly ladies. Also, this movie should be shown as an example of how to make a transformative adaptation. Amazing work they did here, it certainly would be easier to just slap a generic story on top of the book and ship it as it is, but they actually took time to understand what the book is talking about and integrated it into the story. I tip my hat.

This movie helped me cope with my grandfather's death. He and the aviator had so many similarities that it was impossible to not see parts of him as I watched, especially since we used to watch movies together as a way to bound. I'm so glad you covered this movie and reminded me of him.

For me this movie is special. Due to the fact that I found out about the original book when I was just a bit older than Little Prince himself, and when I watched the movie I felt some beautiful reconnection with a grown up Prince. Because I fell down into the same path of just working working and working. All childhood happiness just gone away. You a grown up now, no time for fun and joy in simple things. But... The movie actually helped me to see how sad my inner child was. And I found a hero who is the same as I am. And if he can become happy, I can be happy too.

Now, THIS is a wonderful review for this film. Left room for creative license, understood the point of the little girl, and understands that the stories are both pretty open ended. I’m very glad that I watched this video about The Little Prince. Not only because I enjoyed it, but also because I haven’t heard a lot of people talking about it for a long, LONG time. The Little Prince was a small and huge part of my childhood (even though I’m Latvian, not American or French.) I read the book, but never finished it and never understood what was the big deal with it (until now.) Had an MP3 player with an audio-book file inside back when I was a child. At the same time, I played the lead role of the Little Prince in my school-theather-play (or whatever you call it nowadays,) even though I was just part of the four people who played the same role as me (the actors were switched in every sequence of the story. Probably because we could remember our lines/script better that way. I definitely remember playing at the Geographer and the Fox part. But everything else is either a blur or a poor memory.) I almost had a chance, a CHANCE, of watching this movie (at least without sailing the seven seas,) for the first time when it came out in the movie theathers. But I never did. Why, exactly? Well, It’s more of a horror story now that I think about it. If ya’ wanna hear it, reply to me. Because the story itself is so fucking frustrating. Otherwise, I LOVED this video. It gave me a chance to look back on my past and it gave me some new interpretations of the book & the movie. (Speaking about the book, can we get a Studio Ghibli adaptation of The Little Prince, plz? The book almost fits the Miyazaki’s style of storytelling perfectly!)

@@DrawpinionDump Thanks! Well, it’s not a really horrifying story, but a very frustrating one nonethless. Back in 2014, sometime in December, right before the Christmas holiday, my school partnered up with (I guess the Latvian version of, if that’s even a thing) L’Oréal company (how? I’m not sure, but maybe it has something to do with the presents we recieved from them before any holiday we had, like the cosmetic/self-care products.) The company gave *all* of the students from my school a chance to watch the premier of any movie before they were even released to the public (at least in my country)! (Also, shoutout to my only movie theather that I’ve ever been gone to my entire life - ForumCinemas ❤️) That same year, all of us watched the premier of “The Peanuts Movie.” Bonus: *they gave everyone free caramelized popcorn!* It was probably the first or second Charlie Brown thing I ever watched. The movie itself was pretty good and wholesome. Even though they forgot about some of the character personalities from the original, especially Marcie. Next year, our class teacher announced that L’Oréal was planning to do another movie premier for us - the movie was called The Little Prince. When she said that, I was *fricking hyped!* Not only because TLP was part of my childhood, but also because I thought that this was going to be a very wholesome experience. But, the day of the premier came, and, oh boy, that day was the *worst.* Our whole school came to the theather, tried to find our seats, all of us had to stand up and sing some kind of christmas-related song (because we always had to do that in our school in any special occasion, kind of like our special tradition.) And then, when we had to wait for our free popcorn, one of our school teachers stood behind the big screen, took a mic, and said this: “Ok, so, it turns out, we actually *fooled* all of you! That’s right! We’re not going to show you TLP today! Instead, we’re going to watch… *SING!* “ Yes. The *Sing* movie. The Illumination movie. The *FUCKING* premier of *ONE OF THE FEW SHITTIEST movies* you could decide to watch with some children. What a fucking honor. Need I talk more about it? Ok. It’s just a very uninteresting movie you can watch right now without recieving ANY message from it to a child or a grown up. At all. The worst thing about it is that, starting from the next year, we didn’t get any more movie premier screenings from the company EVER AGAIN. What a stupid way to end this… If I had a theory of why our school couldn’t watch this movie, it would be that because they realized that it was too… “woke” for them. Either for my school or L’Oréal, or both of them. Maybe they were like: “Ugh, this movie gives a pretty good message to our children that they shouldn’t overwork themselves, either in school or a workplace. NONESENSE! Our children are going to get super-woke! They won’t listen to us! They should just work harder, even if they’ll be worn out!” But now, because of you, now I know how good this movie, adaptation and message is as a whole. Thank you! And that’s the story of how I never got a chance to watch TLP. Again, thanks for making this video. I wouldn’t have thought about it ever again if you never mentioned it. Seriously.

Who knows, maybe they just wanted to teach you first hand that life is unfair. That's a top notch betrayal right there. Come to think of it, when I went to the movies to see TLP, something weird happened to me as well: they started screening the wrong movie. My friend and I sat through the trailers, and then when the film started it was... definitely not TLP, it was a national production that wasn't set to premiere for another two weeks. If we'd kept quiet I don't think anyone would've realized the mistake (the theater had basically me, my friend, and an old lady) and we could've gotten an exclusive look at the new movie, but we really wanted to watch TLP, so we left the room to talk to a manager or something. They fixed the mistake and we ended up watching TLP after all. Your story will haunt me forever, all I can say is I hope the universe makes up to you at some point

does anyone remember the tv series though?!?! I loved that show so sweet and innocent shame it is hard to find online anywhere. I still have a small toy fox from the series. I loved the magic sparkly star cape and everything. I never understood a word spoken in the show since it only aired on BBC ALBA when I was little and never knew it was in other languages too (which is pretty stupid looking back) but yeah adored the show.

this video is spectacular, and reading all of the wonderful positive comments about this movie makes me so so happy! the director Mark Osborne is such a genuinely lovely guy and has been a wonderful mentor to me, but he's always regarded this film with a bit of sheepishness. i don't think he realizes just how spectacular and well-loved this film is, but hearing him talk about its conception and his process is always a treat. i'm a bit disappointed that this video didn't talk about him at all, because so much of his personal heart and passion is present in the way this movie was made, but i can't really complain bc you've broken down the themes and intentions behind it so perfectly!

Last year I read The Little Prince to my mother over voice recordings. When I got to the part of the Aviator/Narrator explaining his turmoil over the Little Prince's death, I actually started tearing up and my voice broke. I'd listened to the audiobook several times, but actually reading it aloud and processing the sadness of the situation just broke me.

I absolutely adore this movie. It hits home in so many different ways, especially since it hit Netflix in the UK just almost a year after my Nanna died. By the time I watched it I was just coming out of the shock of finishing university while grieving, had no certainty about my future, and was basically literally just entering the post-education adult world in many ways and it TERRIFIED me. The movie makes me cry so much, but ultimately it's cathartic and hopeful, and beautiful.

Absolutely did not like how they added the aged up version of the Little Prince, because they made it feel like a 'canon' ending instead of one of the many different interpretations. I think this is a story that benefits from an open ending and the last part of the movie would have been great, if the prince was left out of it. It kind of ruins the mystery to me, but that's just my take. I absolutely loved the stop motion animation and the additional story was cute too, but a little on the nose.

Ah ! I get it. The Snake meant by this point, the only way he could return home as he remembered it, was if his spirit left his body, because as a spirit, he could return to those days. Relive them over and over again, as they flashed before his eyes, not having to care if the rose withered and decayed, essentially making his planet not feel like home anymore. His body did return to the earth. And in his imagination, his dust was carried by whatever winds necessary into outer space, until it could reach his planet. But nothing else. He was never reborn.

I haven't read the book (though I want to) but when I watched this movie for the first time with my mom, I thought The Little Prince was gonna be an allegory for death. Mostly because the old man told the little girl that he was planning to go visit The Little Prince & when the girl said she wanted to go with him, the man told her that he had to go alone, that she couldn't go with him. So, for a good chunk of the movie, I was sweating in my seat thinking the old man was gonna die. I told my mom this after the movie ended & she told me that a theory she had in her head was that the rose The Little Prince loved was an actual person & that The Little Prince was gonna get reunited with this "Rose" woman. I actually kind of like how the movie took us both on two different mental paths.

This movie literally saved my life. It made me realize that I'm not afraid of growing up; I'm afraid of forgetting what it was like being a kid. This movie makes me cry a lot more now that I'm older 😢😭

I have a very clear memory of this movie at the cinema. I went with a friend who also enjoyed movies a lot and loved the little prince. We both said "They dared to make a movie of The Little Prince, what the hell were they thinking? That can't be adapted, It will most certainly be horrible ... Do you want to go see how your childhood is raped and massacred with me? "So we went with our heads full of plans to complain throughout the movie ... and neither of us spoke. Not a word, not a whisper. We both sat there the whole movie, side by side with our eyes fixed on the screen, Against all odds, loving every second of that movie, almost crying over the fact that for once, Someone not only read the original source, but went to great lengths to show how much they love it. The world is very weird sometimes, when I don't like a movie, everyone will hear ad nauseam all the details of what is wrong with that (in my opinion). But when I love a movie.... It turns out that all I can say is "It's beautiful, go see it"

I didn’t quite enjoy this movie as I had hoped I would, but I really liked how the adapting this story was done. It was also what lead one of my dearest friends to read the book, which, considering her tastes, I found it astounding she hadn’t done that as a child already.
