I think there should be a caveat for mildly lifted trucks. imo, a 3-5" lift with 33-37" tires is pretty reasonable, especially if you actually go off-road with it. I'm not a big truck guy, and my wife's Jeep is only slightly lifted, but I think a mild lift and reasonably larger tires makes a stock truck exponentially more capable for camping, hunting and off-road tomfoolery
@musicalcharge2 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree. There's overlander lifted and monster truck wannabe lifted. I think that the average Joe, when you say lifted truck, imagines the mini monster truck, and doesn't even think of an overlanding rig. At least, that's what all the pictures in the video show.

As a fellow wagon lover (first car was the hideous Aussie drift machine, 2000 AU falcon wagon) I'm curious if this car has leaf springs in the rear or traditional struts? Is it easy to work on, is it reliable etc. In my country Volvo's are less common but I'm very interested in them
@wezerd2 жыл бұрын
You're a very reasonable man with an excellent car. You love a car without the unnecessary bits but with a lot of practicality. You're basically the superior car owner (totally not saying this because i also own a box shaped wagon from the 90s).

@@j4y167 The live axle in back has separate coils and dampers on the lower trailing arms. There are also upper trailing arms and a Panhard rod to locate the axle properly. As for reliable, Arthur is at 619,000 kilometers on the clock, which is about 385,000 miles. In 33 Ontario, Canada winters the car has never been stuck. The only times I have had to pull off the road has been in freezing rain. Arthur was fine, but the idiots in their minivans on all season tires who would not slow down even after seeing other idiots with their minivans stuffed into ditches or guardrails. The only times I have not tried is when the road I need to travel has been closed by the Police and Ministry of Transport because the snow drifts are too deep and the plows need time to clear the road. As an aside, Arthur is a one family car. Ma bought him new as her 60th birthday present to herself. She took delivery on 17 January, 1990, and I have every piece of paper for the car going back to the day Ma placed the order.

@@wezerd My dream wagon is a 1988/89 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park LS with the 351 (5.8 litre) Windsor V8 and the heavy duty Trailer Tow III Package. Swap the intake and carb to Edelbrock Performer pieces, swap out the 2 inch dual exhaust and go custom mandrel bent 2¼, and horsepower jumps from 215 to about 250, torque goes from 390 lb/ft at 2200 rpm to 450 lb/ft at 2100 rpm. Fuel economy will be roughly 34 miles to the US gallon, 40 miles to the Imperial gallon, or 7 litres per 100 kilometers. It will also come with a tow rating of 6,000 pounds and a Combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 12,500 pounds. I had an 89 LS sedan and my brother had an 86 Colony Park LS wagon. As unbelievable as the fuel consumption sounds, both cars were doing that. My sedan was wrecked in a crash at 185,000 miles. The wagon was scrapped at 550,000 miles due to the body mounts breaking after an unintended off road trip down a hill and into a tree. My brother didn't think it was a good idea to spend $1,500 to save it.

And off-roading since it gives ground clearance and wheel well space so you fit a taller tire or wheel. And a little bit of lift with big tires looks cool in my opinion

There’s a difference between a lifted truck that’s only lifted a 2 to 4 inches for stance and off-road capability versus a 36 inch lifted truck that has super fancy suspension and super large wheels with the tiniest tires. They can fit on them. There’s a big difference though you right.

Living in Florida, yes I’m not a huge fan of lifted trucks. However, the part saying that they’re not practical, is an understatement. They are a HUGE life saver when it comes to floods/getting stuck in thick mud, and it really isn’t as much of a pain to put stuff in the back as you would think

Regarding the bmw one, the other day I was in my 98 gmc truck lol, going home from work and an Audi suv was less than a foot and a half from me, looking out my rear window. I get on the gas and haul ass around the vehicle in front of me to gain distance and the Audi driver follows, I let off and they blow past me, then hit the brakes almost me to hit them, needless to say I reported the license plate to the authorities. I know not all drivers of German luxury cars do that but most in this town. It’s saddening
@davidshoyt1979 Жыл бұрын
you know the authorities just threw that report in the trash and didnt even write anything down when you called it in right? cops literally have better things to do than deal with your butthurt. Maybe they ripped around you because no one can see around your compensation mobile and want to actually see the road conditions ahead of them without having to drop down to 5 mph to get a wide enough view around your rolling trash dumpster on wheels. .

Funny video. I live in Southern California and there’s definitely a strong car culture here. I’ve had both a BMW and a Mercedes and the Bimmer is definitely more sporty and the Benz more cush. I also had an Outback and a lot of people asked me if I was from Seattle or Portland because a lot of drivers in those areas have them.

Perhaps you could do a part 2, 3 etc...to this video. There are so many other car/people types out there. Lexus & average Toyota owners aren't the same type. Subaru & WRX/STi owners are different as well. Then there's the Jeep owners. The Honda civic crowd. The OLD muscle car crowd. The Mercedes drivers. A few people mentioned Mustang drivers.

As an ex Lexus and current BMW owner, I do talk about how good my cars are/were. Because BMW is indeed a car designed for drivers and motoring enthusiasts, they are fun to drive. Lexus may not be the most fun to drive amongst the premium segment, however the Lexus IS250 is still a relatively fun car to drive with a V6 NA engine, rear wheel driven and comes with a whole list of plush equipments that merc c class, bmw 3 series and Audi A4s doesnt have (in the UK market). So essentially you are paying BMW 3 series money, you get to enjoy the agility of a bmw 3 series whilst having bmw 5 series level of luxury! I still miss my IS250 but with the rising petrol prices nowadays I had to let it go.
