One of my favorites is AC Odyssey where You're giving a choice but to save a family that has the plague on kefalonia, if you don't save them they get brutally murdered. If you do save them they end up dying anyway, but not before decimating the entire island with the plague, and every time you return to the island for the remainder of the game it's in shambles.
@corbingarrett12062 жыл бұрын
@matt yeah, both choices suck for sure, but one choice doesn't involve the decimation of an entire island. I find the most tragic thing about Joels death is that the Joel we meet at the start of part one would've left Abby for dead. Joels surrogate father relationship to Ellie had softened him over time making him a more compassionate person then he was previously. It's much like the fate of Tony Montana in Scarface, Tony's moral decision to not carry out a hit because he refused to bring harm to children costs him his life after he made one merciful choice in a life full of immoral choices and behavior

That said there's no guarantee that Ellie's death in the first would have saved anyone from the infection, and it's hard to judge Joel on that one when Ellie has become as important to him as Sarah. The first game is a redemption story, it may actually have benefited from showing more of what shitty people Joel and Tess had been instead of leaving it primarily to voice lines. How about saving Legion in Mass Effect 3 leading to Tali jumping off a cliff?

That's like the Rachni example- it's only bad if you made bad decisions earlier.

@@karlthorkildson4650 Really? I must have made bad decisions each time I played through it. I didn't know you could save both of them.

@@ecnalreleam Well, not Legion itself but the Geth. And it requires a ME2 save with certain conditions, plus making a couple more decisions in ME3.

@@ecnalreleam Though for a while, ME3 converged into simpler endings, which made most mad. At least one of the things the Extended free DLC added was Fallout style segmented epilogues so you got a glimpse of the results of your actions. A big hint though- saving the Geth is pointless anyways if you are going to pick Destroy.

I still believe Last of Us 2 was wasted potential. The reason i despise the game isnt entirely because of Joel's death alone. But also because of how the story was told (getting to play Ellie all the way to the "boss fight" room before getting cockblocked and forced to play joel's murderer. If I was made to play Abby and get to know her first before the golfing scene. I'd probably still dislike her but not as badly as I do now. Bonus is the epilogue, after losing everything Ellie letting Abby go is another punch in the groin

First of all, no matter what her father did, he was STILL her father and his being murdered was going to affect her. Second, she was given a chance to redeem herself through her association with Lev and became a better person for it. Finally, and ultimately, Ellie did the right thing in letting Abby go as killing her would have made Ellie no better than Abby. If Abby was wrong to kill Joel, then Ellie would have been EQUALLY as wrong if she had killed Abby.
@EC-rk2zl2 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_Okey I never said Joels death wouldnt affect her, that much is obvious. My gripe as i said the original comment is the way the storyline is constructed. Its a lot like the film Passengers (Jennifer Larence and Starlord) where-in while I understand why the female lead hates Starlord. I couldnt take her side, because I saw how Starlord was suffering for the entire first half of the movie. Thats my problem with Last of Us 2. The first half of the game is you being enraged just as much as Ellie. So when i was forced to play Abby in the PEAK of my anger. It soured my experience of half the game. Thats why i previously said they should have found a way to interchange it. (Ellie and Abby's sections). Letting you bottle up your emotions while playing as Ellie after seeing Joel murdered and never letting you properly release it by killing Abby or some other way made the whole game in the end feel dark, unsatisfying and pointless. Especially after that epilogue

You are correct. His year spent with Ellie on their journey softened his character and made him more likely to choose to save Abby than let her die.

Dragon Age:Origins comes to mind, put the honourable Harromount in charge? Sorry you've just elected someone who's so conservative he wont change Dwavern ways even though there species is oppressive and dying. If you had put scheming Prince Bhelen in charge the Dwarves would have seen a renaissance from having someone not too caught up in tradition in charge.
