You're on to something Tammy. To the 'ho' the 'pimp' is GOD in a way. In the movie, Ike ran a pimp game on Tina (not sure if this is how it actually went down in real life). There is a STRONG Pimp/Ho dynamic going on between them. Pimps control their women with FEAR because fear is a powerful emotion that makes people fall in line. Forget about the logic of killing someone after they dead because it won't make sense. Instead, think of it as Ike using Tina's fear of him to keep her alive. Fear is so powerful that it sometimes makes people do things that seem miraculous. This is the angle i think Ike was taking when he said that. Ike ain't the most educated guy in the world but even he knows that you can't kill someone after they dead. This shit is chess, it ain't checkers. The line reveals a psychological game that Ike is using. To Tina, Ike wants to be GOD and he uses skillful psychology to his advantage to make this happen.

Both partners are suppose to be happy for each other and wants what is best for each other. Ike never said if she dies he'll kill her. In Tina's book she joked with a friend that after her suicide attempt (she took 50 valiums), she was so afraid of Ike that he probably threatened her if she died which is why she didn't. She was unconscious so she didn't know what he actually said. According to Ike in his book he said to her something like if you wanna die then die, reasoning that he was trying to motivate her to fight and live. More people should read their books, it gives more insight to their complex relationship. The movie was good but not accurate, it was made for entertainment, and a lot of facts are left out like Tina already had a baby at 18 by a musician in Ike's band. Tina had no control over the script so the writers had creative freedom to fabricate scenes like the rape scene and cake scene never happened in real life.

I can say that in my brief time performing with her she was an inspiration and woman of courage! Beyoncé stands on her shoulders and she knows that! This movie should be required viewing for all young children. I was 8 when this movie came out and we watched it on HBO or whatever a year or so later. Between my dad teaching me never to raise my hand to a woman in anger and seeing this movie, I knew what was right and what was wrong. To this day, I have never raised a hurtful or violent hand to any woman, child or animal. And it will stay that way.
