Yes Filipino accent is malleable. It can be hard, soft, chill or crispy. It can mimmick American, British or Australian English. Even the thick-Bisayan dialect speakers can easily adopt to spoke foreign English. Most of these award-winning artists and singers from Hollywood to China came from Visayas, or whose parents came or born in central, Philippines. In the 15th century Sultan Ragam Bolkiah of Brunei Darusalam whose mother is from Visayas travelled by sea to and fro the Kingdom, and known in history as the singing captain during his voyages. Filipino singers conquers global stage in singing competition. Filipinos are born to sing instead of wailing. Singing in the country is ordinary activity. One can find it in malls, airports, public parks, just anywhere and everywhere. On weekends whole family members sing with a Karaoke which almost all households had, and the neighborhood sprang into a contests-like singing competition. During fiesta celebration the community is like in war-freak competitions notwithstanding that a singing competition is ongoing at the towns center.

Soo funny! Wil's mom is a woman after my own heart! She's me. I have lived here in Northern NJ for 33 years -more than half of my life. I was born in the Philippines, studied in the Philippines but has worked here in the US all my professional life. My husband is 2nd gen "Mutt" (Slovak, Irish, Scot, French,Dutch) and has said my accent is different when I talk to native English speakers and Filipinos. I have to soften my accent to be understood in my work. I definitely could relate to Wil's mom! My son and my niece (who's Italian/Filipino)always make fun of me, my sister's and my mom's accent!

I prefer british english because it's not like the american english.They usually pronounce the U and O like hotdog,goodluck.Hot not hat and good lUck not good lack.American english is mixed slang language.Some pronounce lettUce as lettis.It's just an earache that they change the real pronunciation.

Seriously?!!Filipinos speak with accent because of the region they came from not the boondocks of any province.Some Filipino women who married non-Filipinos came from rural towns,urban towns and even the cities. They may not be able to verbalize fluently but i'm sure they know how to spell words.

a lot of English words are actually Filipinized, why the accent/pronunciation -- restawrant, bag pak, etc. English, Spanish, Chinese, etc are being integrated in all Filipino dialects, i.,e, conversational.

In my opinion, the accent is not that important as we have our own mother tongue, the important thing is that - we should speak in a way that we are understood! and not be offended when we are being corrected otherwise “guerra!”

I'm still comfortable with my Filipino and American English accents having lived in the U.S. for almost three years. Even my Tagalog has its Cebuano or Bisaya accent.
@jeckyilogon9635
@jeckyilogon9635 3 жыл бұрын
There cant be no issue about languages or dialects, english or filipino, without referring to bisaya. It seems bisaya accent is the gauge of how good one speaks english or tagalog. Are the tagalogs the best filipino english speakers? Because this is what I observe of the tagalogs that they are very confident and comfortable of the way they speak english that they laugh the way others speak english. But at the end of the day other english speaking people still laugh at the way filipinos without distinction, bisaya or tagalogs, speak english .

Yes, add to that Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese. Each have their own accent when they speak English. I've just noticed that it's our kababayans who will look down on you when you don't speak correct English and with an accent. That's why some Filipinos don't have the confidence to speak, but they can communicate, because they weren't encouraged from the start.
