It needs to be understood: this wasn’t Wheatley’s plan all along. He wanted to help. But simply being plugged into the Glados system makes him really irrational and makes him want to test at all costs. His personality changed drastically as soon as he was plugged in

Reasons I felt confident that GlaDOS was not lying about Wheatley's origin: 1. She gained nothing by telling him. 2. She sounds, insofar as she's able, absolutely *furious* at the memory of having him forcibly attached to her. She may be embellishing his stupidity, but I think she at least genuinely believes his sole existence was to make her dumber. I believe the general assumption is that he'd been attached at one point, like the cores you destroyed in the first game, but it went so poorly that he was removed, and unsure what to do with him after, the scientists gave him nothingburger jobs and told him he'd die if he tried doing anything that might put him in a position where he could cause real damage. Ironically making things worse- he's clearly developed a whole other complex over all the lies he was told about what he was capable of and how limited his whole life was.
@somethingclever5
@somethingclever5 Ай бұрын
Yee, Wheatley as a character is actually pretty interesting when you get deep about it. I feel like a lot of people very simply treat his betrayal as the-mainframe-makes-you-evil, and I don’t want to dismiss that as a potential contributing factor but there’s so much stuff beyond that to really dig into. You can really start reading into what his life must have been like before the game starts, and how his inferiority complex developed and all that. He accuses Chell of bossing him around, which is obviously not true, but what if he’s projecting the interactions he had with the human scientists before onto her? It makes sense that someone who’s been so helpless and talked down to all his life might go off the deep end once he finally gets a bit of power. Proof that everybody was wrong about him!
@yuvibitter
@yuvibitter 12 күн бұрын
@@somethingclever5 there are also some giveaways earlier, where he says "smelly humans" and the way he tries to pretend like he's smart doing complicated "hacking" when he clearly has no idea what he's doing. It all comes off as silly and harmless at first but when he gets powerful all of that gets recontextualized into something a lot more sinister

At least you got the full dialogue from the oricle turret before that unfortunate destruction. So many players either don't pick it up or drop / destroy it before it's done. It also seems you're picking up solutions a lot faster now. I loved how you were asking yourself why you wanted to swap the defective turret in the scanner when that was exactly what the puzzle tries to get you to work out, and you hadn't even given the game a chance to suggest that taking the good turret out wasn't enough.

Wheatley was designed to be installed on GLaDos to try and make her dumb enough to be controlled. However since all the cores were designed the same way, he could be installed to replace her. It's also the reason why he changed when he got control, because it was the dumbest idea that could be generated.

First off, I love your shirt. "a solution for One of Both of us" is one of my favorite lines, glad you caught that. "is she going to call me fat again" Wheatley thinking he can avoid Glados hearing because of a southern accent is the funniest thing I have ever seen in a game. I also went into Glados's test just to see what would happen. "that can not be the whole game", no, no it is not. "can we have a portal ride"... I thought the same thing, all these back-rooms feel like the line for a disney or 6 flags ride! "humans, with their fakelore" LUL Tenacity=smelly 100% I love how quickly you pick up on the "turret redemption line" being like body parts and how creepy it is SOOOO glad you picked up the "i'm different" turret, huge easter egg, that many playthroughs miss. (I think you heard all the lines) I love ALL the defective turret lines. "I did my best" in such a cheery voice. AND you caught a defective turret before knowing the plan! pro gamer move. KEKW the callout at the "bring your daughter to work day", but yes, it me. "but real enough for them I suppose" hit me pretty hard as well. God, I love the WheatleyGlados arguments before core transfer "now there is a lady who could resolve any button-based disputes", I thought also how quick you catch on to Wheatley turning. "all you've done is boss me around" to the mute woman is crazy "wait what?!?" Glados in "the fall" is my favorite the extra "space and silence" after the fall is so extremely evident, such great game design ooooh Cave Johnson! he may be... a lot Again soo glad you caught the prometheus line with that turret This game has such insane story and lore for so few actual lines of dialogue I am so excited for what is to come.

Fun fact about the game's sound design: All of the noises and music that the parts of the test make exist in the game world. For instance, in Chamber 20 with the three cubes and the lasers that were "singing," Chell could hear and experience that too, it wasn't just a cue for the player to know they're progressing. This is referred to as diagetic sound design, and it was really cool to use it both to reward and show the player that they're getting closer to solving the test, but also plays into the idea they had about most of everything in Aperture being "sentient."

When you're done with Portal 2, I can recommend Portal:Prelude which was an unofficial fan made prequel to the first one. So when you play it, keep in mind it's not official but it has quite a lot of content and is really well made, even with a lot of dialogs with the scientists before GLaDOS was turned on. The finale is also awesome with a chemical brothers tune (believe). Though be warned: the puzzles can be quite a bit more challenging and "lethal".

Yeah Wheatley definitely didnt intend to betray Chell at the start of the game as he wanted nothing to do with Glados and she nearly killed him. Its more that he went mad with power sorta and let himself get engulfed by his paranoia and insecurity instead of the lame "muahahaha I was evil the whole time and everything you knew about me was an act". Like from his perspective he finally gets to be in control for once and Chell just doesn't care and just wants to leave (I think he mentions that later during one of his monologues).
