Don't usually comment but just wanted to say that I love this series and I really appreciate you continuing it for so long. I'd never really thought of watching an OOTP lets play before, but as someone in a couple online leagues who knows the pain of this game well, watching someone else experience it and soldier on turns out to be very cathartic.

Hey Foolish, I’m curious as to what your mechanism is for making these trades. Like, do you use the “Shop Around” feature and then barter with a team that offers you someone interesting for whoever you are shopping or do you scour a bunch of teams rosters until you find someone you like and then proceed to barter with the team?

I use the player search function with a bunch of filters, make a shortlist of interesting players, then hit the "make trade work now!" button on all of them to see who can actually be moved. Alternatively, I'll use the shop function just to figure out what teams value my players the most, then look at their rosters to see if there's a match.

Not sure if your owner being cheap effects this but I’ve been running a 0 draft budget on my OOTP team and just save money for the draft. It allows you to have a higher operating budget for the year. Then you can use your cash to sign them and have the rest of your budget to use for trades or player dev. With where the signing deadline is, being after the trade deadline, if you’re team doesn’t use that money it just gets wasted

DEBONA DUDES RISE UP No but seriously, really great offseason I think. Pitzer deal seems pretty reasonable (interested what his initial demand was as 25m is a *little* high I think but sometimes you gotta pay to get your guys). I think this year and next are really great windows to compete and even if he's a little eh in the last year of the deal you can probably dump the salary or just ride it out with him. Smart moves to shed salary and keep things moving. I know Grantland is fun and flashy and is a great player no doubt, but I think last year's playoffs showed that the core of the team and the money has to be focused on starting pitching and the bats, bullpen is just too variable, it's much easier to pick up guys off waivers/trades, and you can really compensate for the bullpen problem by just putting up runs honestly. I think with a strong deadline this team has a good shot to avenge 2 years ago.

Personally I have not once seen a player change from fragile to normal through the player development lab. Even when it’s successful (which is very rare) it changes from “fragile” to “mostly fragile” or something like that. So I wouldn’t count on pitzer possibly having normal injury proneness through the development lab.

FWIW I think I read somewhere that the actual pitches aren’t too important, just the ratings. The OOTP manual says “higher individual pitch ratings mean a higher likelihood of getting hitters out” and that a starter probably needs three good ones, but other than that it doesn’t say anything about the pitch types themselves mattering.

The pitch types can have an impact on things like splits (most pitches have normal splits but certain ones like I believe curveballs can introduce reverse splits/make your pitcher less splitty) and adding a pitch that is good can boost stuff IIRC, but everything the pitches do is reflected in the ratings, so it's not like your changeup vs. fastball is doing anything outside of how it impacts the stuff/movement/control and the splits of those ratings, but it does in fact impact those ratings
