My ex wife and I showed up at the museum before it officially opened. Dale saw our plates from Tennessee and knew we traveled far. He also could see our love of motorcycles and told us to just let ourselves in and take all the pictures you want and to feel at home. R.I.P. DALE, AND THANK YOU.

I have to tell this story... I went to the museum on one our trips to Waynesville, NC. My wife is not into motorcycles, but she would go with me an knit when I wandered around the museum. I came back to where she was sitting (knitting) and she was talking to Dale. He found out she was a retired school teacher of 37 years and set up the reading program at the school where she worked. He had an idea for organizing the paper information, documents and books that he had collected prior to that point. The two of them were so into the discussion that neither one of them noticed the group of men that came and went during their discussion. I just came back and sat across from them and did not even try to interrupt. Then when he found out my daughter was into painting and wanted to do pin stripping on cars, (she has done some things for me on my cars) he took her around showing her various paint details on bikes for about and hour. I found it funny how driven and also how nice and caring he was as a person from watching these interactions. Dale did not know us but his caring is contagious. Our family was very saddened by his passing and he will always be remember with fondness, What a great guy he was..

@@cameronlawrence1254 Cameron, There are so many treasures out in this great county of ours. I went to the museum several times over the years and the vibe was always different like the seasons. My suggestion to you is visit what Dale was trying to offer to you as his legacy. He trained and impacted those that worked and attended the building that housed many wonderful motorcycles. The first time I went to the museum I did not see Dale, but I talked to the staff, and said hello to as many people as I saw and I just sat back and listened. It is an interesting place. This is true all over our great county, visit places in your home towns. Get to know the people that will take the time to teach and by all means listen to what they have to say. Take care and enjoy the day.

About 18 yrs ago my wife and I stopped by the museum during a week day, place was almost empty except for a guy pushing a dust mop. We started looking around and he came up to us asking if this was our first time at the museum, we said no we had been here before. He introduced himself and said they let him work there and keep the place clean. We had a little small talk and then he proceeded tell us about the bikes we were in front of. I was impressed with his knowledge of each of the bikes. We continued to look around with Dale giving us a private tour not realizing he was the owner, finally during him describing how he got the little shop back in the corner of the museum, I came to realize who he really was. He started several bikes and from the looks of all the black marks on the floor, he rode them in there too! We had a great morning with Dale, he will be missed. The museum is always on my list to see when I'm over that way.

My favorite Dale Story,, I have been to the WTTM several times but on my first visit this man comes up while I was admiring a bike, he could tell I was amazed at the age and quality, but scared to death to get to close to it!! He just hops on it and kicks it, and talking to me over the beautiful sounds coming out of a 110+ year old bike he is explaining everything that makes this bike different. He then says if you like this one, check this one out, and then takes me to several more bikes.. talking about each one, and telling me things I could never had known. His passion was hypnotic, I was literally in a trance listening to him. I have no idea how long he spent with me, 20 minutes or 2 hours. But when I was leaving I thanked the person at the front desk for the "staffs" time and pointed at Dale. They just laughed and told me who I was talking to.. Every time I saw him after that I watched closely as he did the same thing with anyone that walked in the door. I didn't know him well or long, but my impression is he never met a stranger, and if you were interested in learning something he could teach, he would never rush away. He would take time for anyone!!! I am glad to have met him.

Thank You to Sean from Bikes & Beards for introducing me to Matt through KZbin. I have been binge watching all the videos this Christmas. Why this Channel doesn't have millions of subcribers , I don't understand. Through these videos I have learned so much. I am 67 and have been riding since I was 5 , first in Scrambling then owned a Harley speed shop. Dale reminds me so much of my uncle who owned a Honda Dealership in 1962 then changed to Yamaha. We sold everything, BSA, Norton, Triumph , old Harleys, ducatis, Osa, Huskys the list goes on. Dale left us way to young but Matt is a real chip off the block. What a wealth of information. God Bless and wish you all there many happy healthy years to come.

What a great video. A very long running bucket list item for me is visiting the museum, and it looks like it may come true this year. I wish I could have met Dale, and I think it’s so wonderful that he passed in the knowledge and passion to Matt.

Dale was a wonderful man. When I was at the museum in Waynesville I was the only visitor. He showed me around an even started a few bikes for me. I was very impressed.

Unfortunately, I never got to meet Dale, but would like to meet Matt one day. The first time I saw Dale was on the show American Restoration and immediately I knew I liked him. He was a no BS, straight forward kind of guy who was on a mission. And if he wasn't on a mission, he was on a mission to find a mission. He will be greatly missed, but he went out doing his passion and that's the way to do it. R. I. P. Dale and thanks for all you've done.
