I’m watching this March ‘23 - 3 years on. I’ve been reflecting on the Corona virus and the general response to it. There was obviously a lot of panic to it at the time, fear of the unknown. Many contrasting experiences for you guys but I was happy to see that you were happy to be back amongst your own people. It’s hard to beat that feeling of being home, that can only really be felt after being away!

Hoi Maudi en Eric, The starting image of this video is in my mind if it was yesterday that you both left for your big adventure. Hopefully this winter I can find the time to view your journey again. For me as a parent it is good to hear from you both that you also loved to be back again. Ofcourse I liked what you were doïng but then again there's no place like home! I think that counts for most of the people in most of the countries. And it's so heartwarming to have seen and feel you both again! That was, exept emotionally, also a relief! To be on the road in so many different places with so many different circumstances gives the people who love you sometimes a "concearned" feeling. But through you both the same loved ones experienced all that you met in this journey and for that I am greatfull. To me it has been also a big journey which I followed from the beginning and we can enjoy it again and again and again and... Thank you both and hopefully ther will be in the non-corona future more challenges to enjoy! Thanks, Kees

The only time I was stopped from wild camping was in the Netherlands. A man popped up behind from behind a dune and was most insistent I was not allowed to camp ''in the nature''. I think because the country is so heavily populated and not really any natural landscape remains, it's all cultivated, heavily managed and often artificial, that it's a difficult country to wild camp in. Any how, it's still one of my most favourite countries, so safe and with very helpful folk and will always be very dear in my heart.
@WheelstoWander3 жыл бұрын
Lovely to hear that K C! And is't true, there is less than 1% of authentic nature left in The Netherlands. And as one of the most densely populated countries on the planet wildcamping is not done. Thanks and All the Best

You last camp spot is absolutely great and taste exceptionally cause is forbidden to sleep... not only in NL but some countries around you as well. The famous moment: March 2020. I cycled (after 2 years as well) in Indonesia and people to started afraid of me. I was a star earlier but become a virus. Police catch me on the road everyday and force to go to the hospital to check if I am healthy. I decided not to break the trip and rented extremely cheap village house. Borders are closed around me till today... but not regred cause Indonesia is the most beautiful country in the world. 18.000 islands etc.
@WheelstoWander3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear you seem to be safe in Indonesia! What a crazy time that was, we heard it from so many bicycle travellers that had to stop their trip or turned out stuck somewhere. Can you still cycle around and see all those islands? All the Best, E&M
@4yearsonabike3 жыл бұрын
@@WheelstoWander All the people (cyclists) whom I met on the road or observed virtually (as an inspiration, e.g. you) came back by airplanes like you. People are tired of the pandemic in Indonesia as they are in Europe. So soon I'm going on my journey again. I have a tent like you but in 2 years I used it several times. People invited me everywhere to their homes, and for example, in Indonesia, I slept at ... police stations. it's a safe place with wifi and showers. I wanted to go to Australia but it will be closed until the end of 2021. So I will probably wait for the vaccine available (Chinese or Russian) and take a plane to Africa to travel from North to South. I wonder what are you doing now? Did you go back to work? Or maybe you are planning your next trip soon?

@@lukespack I am polish originally and speak Russian as well, everything what is Russian is suspected for me. I know this country and political system so good. Russian vaccines were just not tested properly and we don't know their effectiveness. They could falsify research. Actually I read Putin's biography on my bike trip now. He killed so many his close friends... I am afraid of Moderna vaccine as well cause effectiveness is 65-92% so like russian roulette. I don't trust Chinese as well but should be better than Russian.

Thanks for sharing! You guys really look like you are getting emotional, getting back home. It will be quite a change from travelling in the world. Maybe you can have little adventures on your bikes at home. What would also be really interesting to me , is how you navigated, as you travelled the world. Did you only use the smartphones, or also Bike Navigation Devices? Was it ok, or would you do it differently next time. I wish you a good aclimatization at home!

Thanks Steve! It is kinda sad, we had a totally different plan! It's tough on everybody and we cannot really complain. Hope this mess goes away someday...
