So you think Vader didn't return to Tatooine because he doesn't like sand? Not because he grew up as a slave there, and escaped to become a jedi at the expense of abandoning his mother, and then the one time he returned his mother was tortured and died in front of him which led to him committing genocide and admitted it to his love; and then also turned his back on the jedi. It's literally a reminder of everything bad that has happened to him, and an inescapable reminder of how he lost his way.

It's rather interesting if you consider that Vader differentiated himself from Anakin. He told Ashoka, "Skywalker was weak, so I killed him" or something to that effect (Kylo Ren does the same) so I believe that Ani certainly did view himself wholly as Darth Vader... but, he learns that Skywalker had a son and he all of a sudden starts referring to him as "my son." "I have a son." He owns that fact, not as Vader, but as Anakin Skywalker. The Jedi within him was not dead after all.

@Merchants Tomb those other two retained their "dead names" because it afforded them a disguise. They were pretending to hold office and hide their real personas. But once those previous names were no longer necessary, palpetine is referred to only as Emperor, and Vader never needs his old name.

Let's do a few reminders. First, Jedi don't suppress their emotions. On the contrary, they are encouraged to be compassionnate about every sentient in the Galaxy. However, Jedi are taught to CONTROL their emotions, to *rule* them to not be controled by what they feel. Which is *very* different than “supressing emotions”. Second, to be clear about the “attachement” thing, they differentiate “attachment” from “love”. Attachment is the obsessive, unhealthy, possessive kind of love ; ultimatly, a love that drove everyone you care away from you *because* you don't see them as free being, but as “objects” that are “yours”. Love, on the other hand, is caring about in a healthy, empathic and selfless kind of emotion ; in which *because* you *love* people, you learn to let them go. They don't belong to you, and if they are happy away from you, then it's okay with you *because* you love them no matter if they love you back or not. That ability to *let go* is what differenciate love (healthy thing) from attachment (unhealthy thing). Third, I don't really think that Anakin's point of vues of the Jedi culture and community is really reliable : we talk about a man who was slowly manipulated by a Sith during nearly all his “Jedi-ship”. And that though clever to trust said man (Palpatine) over actuals Masters or Knight of the Order. Because if their is *one thing* the Jedi are knows for, it's their compassion, their kindness. They *are* “the most moral people” of the SW Universe, after all (according to Georges Lucas, the creator himself, at least).

Kenobi did not fail, when he left Luke largely untrained. He knew a trained Jedi would not act on the belief a Sith lord could be redeemed, and a Sith lord would not be as likely to try and turn a trained Jedi. He knew they had to interact, and connect as father and son, so he had to leave Luke stumbling and naïve to draw them together.

@@Blackridge. It was almost surprisingly objective. He gambled that Anakin's impulsive stubbornness would remain, as it was instrumental in his fall to the dark side as well. He knew that Ani's perspective that the Jedi Council had betrayed him would, no doubt, be duplicated once Palpatine felt sure of his control. Anakin's craving for a positive relationship would give Luke the opening he needed to redeem his father.

Perhaps the best thing about this is Kenobi understanding he couldn't be the one to turn Anakin back. Him dying by Vader's saber, in front of Luke, set both sides of the plan in motion. I also appreciate that this unites Obi-Wan's strategy with his profound connection to the force by New Hope.

Me too!! I love how the channel gets into the major themes nor does it forget about the nooks and crannies in important details, as well. when luke said "ben would never" i think he was talking about kylo ren i think luke knew something before it happened and was trying to tell boba that "ben" also later known as kylo ren would end up coming to power and that the empire would not last and he was trying to stop the empire and the first order all at the same time and i think he was on tatooine to figure out when the down fall of the emperor would be and when ben would go to power i think he was thair to wait ill ben was born and then turn ben to the light side but the empire got in the way of that and i think that was what luke was trying to tell boba that ben would never go to the dark side as long as he lived and i think he had visions of the empire falling and someone named "ben" rising to power and he was trying to stop that before boba got in the way
