I switched one time for this young boy so he could sit next to his dad because he was very nervous. I was by myself so I didn't care. The family then bought me a drink and a bunch of snacks as a thank you. Very sweet family. The dad in the first story is SO ENTITLED. As a dad you'd think you'd put your family first and not sit your young daughter with STRANGERS!

Just poor planning on the Dad's part. First of all, it sounds like they had 6 people in their party. 2 adults, 4 kids. If the plane was a middle aisle with 3 seats on each side, he should have chosen either 6 seats across, with the aisle in the middle, or 2 rows of 3 on one side. My husband and I traveled with our 3 kids A LOT, military family, and the only time we did not get to choose was when we came home from Germany on emergency leave when my dad was dying. Luckily the kids were older. We had my husband, my daughter, and I in a 3 seat row, and each of our boys in single seats, just across the aisle in 2 different rows. We could see them and talk to them, but at least this way, they did not bicker for 9 hours. We actually got up a few times and played "musical chairs", but there was always at least one adult with our 9 year old daughter.

Lol, I paid for a window seat once because I loved looking at the clouds and sun and had an early flight. An older lady who was very capable was in my seat, and I told her she was, and she pointed up to the numbers and letters saying that was her seat with a smug smile. My ass asked an attendant who then politely asked her to move from my seat. She was fuming the rest of the flight, lol

I had a grown man try that on me when I was flying by myself from Canada to Switzerland. He kept trying to get me out of my window seat because supposedly he had asked for the window seat so it was his, his booking said that it was his seat and I needed to move. No sir, I might have only been 18 at the time, but I'm not an idiot. Unfortunately I ended up having to sit next to him the entire 14 hr flight and he was not happy with me. Because I am made of anxiety I was afraid to move the whole time and make him angrier. But I'm still glad I held my ground!

My son is 6 and I always pay extra to make sure we are seated next to each other. One day our flight came in late and we were rushing to our connecting flight. We barely made it, however they gave my window seat to a standby person, and reassigned my seat somewhere else. Effectively splitting my son and I up. We got on the plane and realized they split us up. The flight attendant helped us but I felt so bad for the kind lady that switched for us. Thank you to whomever you are sweet lady ❤️

I am a 6ft tall 200lb middle aged woman who can afford business class the one or two times a year I fly. My husband and I were going to Argentina (9.5 hours). A woman with her 10-12 year old daughter behind her asked if we could change seats with them in coach because they had missed their earlier flight ,were very sleepy, and their seats weren't comfortable to sleep in. I looked at my husband and quietly said to him in Spanish,"You better take this one cause if I say what I am thinking we might get tossed off the plane." My husband, very demure, very mindful, politely explained that I had back trouble (which is actually true) and I couldn't sit in coach. You would have thought he called her momma a whore and her brother a bastard, She lost it! Fortunately, two flight attendants were able to "guide" them back to their seats. When we went to get our luggage, she was giving us the stink eye. I just waved and smiled.

One time I was at the hospital for an appointment, and I asked a nurse if it would be okay if I brought my daughter through to the next area, "she said as long as she doesn't run around causing trouble." I replied with a laugh, "I hope not as she is 22." The nurse laughed too. I was kind of flattered that she didn't think that I looked old enough to have an adult child. A bit later on the nurse came past us in the next area, and she jokingly said, "you're not running around causing trouble are you?" My daughter responded with a giggle, "I'm thinking about it." 14 years later, and my daughter and I still laugh about this memory. :D

One thing is for certain: when the family showed up, being a family of 6, the father *ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY* tried to see if he could seat his family either 6 across, or 3 and 3, one row behind the other, WHEN HE CHECKED IN. He was then told by the ticket person, "No, sorry. The closest thing we have sir is these five seats available in one row at the front of the plane." Already, with attitude boiling, he had a firm plan in place, before even boarding that plane, that he was GOING TO make that person switch with anybody else, so he could have his 6 across. Failure to do that, made his defeated entitlement, feel so much more pain with this righteous loss. I stand and applaud this young lady!! Go girl!!! 💥💯

I was boarding once and found a very elderly woman in my seat. "Pardon me ma'am, i think you're in my seat." She got very flustered, I could tell she was a little confused. So I asked to see her ticket, noted the seat she was supposed to be in, and went to sit in her seat way in the back of the plane. I settled in, a little proud of myself for solving the issue, when a mother and her toddler took the two seats next to me. The kid was out of control. As we left the gate, she said "I'm really sorry, he doesn't like to fly." She was right - that kid was literally throwing haymakers at his mom and screaming thevwhole flight. I've flown around the world, but that 45 minute trip was the longest flight ever.... I hope that old lady enjoyed her peace 20 rows in front of me...

If little kids are playing up like that boy, I'd suggest to mothers worldwide that they *may* have some inner ear issues; the pressurization causes intense pain if something is even a bit off with the ears. Kids that age often have sniffles or are even teething; the eustachian tube in the ear gets blocked, and causes major discomfort for little ones.

Years ago; my now husband and I never paid extra to pick our seats. More often than not, we were still assigned seats together at check-in. However, if we didn't get to seat together, then so be it. One of the times we weren't assigned to seat together, I looked over to him while the plane was still boarding and asked a question. The guy sitting next to him, asked him if we were traveling together to which the answer was yes. The guy quickly looked over to me and offered to switch seats with him so we could seat together. I asked if he was sure and he said yes. We were super thankful and even offered to buy him a drink and snacks, which he declined and said it was not necessary and he was happy to do something nice for someone else. What made it "more than nice" IMO, is that I had a middle seat and he gave me his aisle seat. ❤

I live across the street from a Catholic church and in the summertime they get tons of visitors and they're piled up into the streets parked on both sides(which theyre not supposed to be, there's no parking signs posted entirely on one side, you can barely squeeze in between the cars on the street and we're right next to the hospital, so if an ambulance needs to come through there would be little to no space) and on the side of the street there is a fire hydrant which people ALWAYS park in front of. God forbid there is ever an incident where this happens, but sometimes i just wish the visitors who go to the church gets their windows smashed into by emergency responders because they feel entitled take up the entire road. As a fellow Christian i know thats a horrible thing of me to think, but i really want them to stop hogging the entire road and blocking the fore hydrant. They also drive like idiots so when im trying to pull out of the parking lot of ky apartment, I'm almost always getting hit by them dashing out of service the moment its done.

I was once sitting in a wheelchair assigned spot on the bus... Few stops down a lady got on with a pram with a young baby.. Literally stood in the aisle staring at me, I smiled politely and she gave me a death stare in return lol. She then spoke up asking if could turn my wheelchair to the side so she could get her pram in. I was like this is a wheelchair space and its meant for wheelchair users like myself. She literally huffed saying I was being selfish.. Another lady spoke up stating if i were to move to the side I would be blocking the aisle. The mother muttered something like bet she can walk really before taking the baby out and folding the pram up putting it in the designated pram carrier. 🙈🙈🙈🙈

My brother and I book seats together when we go visit family. Last year we had a short hop out of Regina on a little Dash 8 and had booked seats near the front. After boarding the flight attendant came out and said the plane was heavy toward the front, and they were hoping for volunteers to move to the back. We instantly said no problem as long as we sit together, so they moved us to the very back and the plane took off with no delay. My brother and I were given snacks as soon as we took off, and then it was suggested we take the most expensive items from the menu(which was not available on that flight). They didn't have to do any of that, we weren't expecting it, but the gratitude they expressed felt good, and we shared cookies with everyone when we got home. Thanks WJ!

6:27 husbands on planes really annoy me. Was on a 4 hour flight and a lovely lady got on with a newborn and a toddler. She was seated beside me and looked so washed out. About 30 minutes into a flight I offered to hold the baby for a bit. She fell asleep but her baby was hungry so I waved her husband who was 2 rows behind with the toddler. The man had a tantrum because I was asking for him to get a bottle of milk- he tried to wake his clearly exhausted wife rather than do 1 thing for his own baby. Thank god for the air hostess. On a flight home from Maui, I had paid to upgrade to business class. I like the extra leg room plus the USB port. Early on in the flight, a very elderly gentleman came walking up from somewhere in coach. His wife was across the aisle and one row up from me. He had a question about using his tablet. She answered him and he unsteadily walked back to his seat. This happened 3 more times, in fairly quick succession. I went back to use the bathroom and saw him heading up front again. I asked if he’d like to switch seats to be near his wife. He was so thankful. I helped him gather his belongings, let the flight attendant know what we were doing and took him up to my seat. I got my purse and headed back to his seat. As I sat down and my knees hit the seat in front of me, I realized I’d just given up my upgraded seat. But I still felt it was a good thing to do for that elderly man. As I sat there, people around me thanked me because they’d been concerned about him. The flight attendant was so sweet and brought me snacks and a drink. I’ve had people say they wouldn’t have done that. But I’d do the same thing over again because that 80+ year old gentleman needed to be near his wife. I’m not asking for pat’s on the back. Just sharing a story. It felt good to help someone.

I would agree with the expectation of family entitlement. As a previous boss, I absolutely did not give anyone special treatment. Family or not. Yes!! I often worked the holidays but I really didn't do anything for the holidays since it's my mom's busiest time of year to work and I've got nothing better to do. Even so, if a single person has family they want to be with and events to attend, they should get just as much of a chance as anyone else who wants the same. I actually disagree... Not about this story and the dad acting not just ridiculously entitled but using his poor child that way... BUT after becoming a parent and now fully understanding how effing hard this is, I do belive in giving a little more grace and understanding towards parents (and also practice this myself in interactions with other parents). These crazy levels of exhaustion and overwhelm are real, especially in our times now since we have so much knowledge about child development and the pressure of 'doing right' by our children. Giving employees who have children a little extra understanding by providing flexible work times vor first choice when it comes to vacation days is not too much . of course there has to be open and appreciative communication with the other employees as well and understanding for other personal circumstances as well. But I disagree with the thinking of "I went through this/worked through this, others should, too..." ... Why not make someone elses life easier if you are capable, pave the way so others do not have to struggle as much?
@erikarussell1142
@erikarussell1142 Ай бұрын
@ oh I fully agree!!! I just didn’t give families special treatment over others. I was very flexible with time off and vacations. But if you filed holiday before a mother did and you didn’t get approved because you didn’t file first, then I absolutely would not bend over backwards to take away time from an individual vs a parent. Which I’ve had happen. I worked at equifax (credit reporting) and I filed after a married man with no kids. They gave it to me because I had kids. I rescinded my vacation and gave it to him. Because who would do that? He wanted to go see his family in Wisconsin for holiday. He hadn’t seen them in five years. Absolutely not.

If I were that girl telling that story, I would have looked him dead in the eye and said “I planned ahead and paid extra for this exact seat, and no, I don’t want to go and sit between two men I don’t know.” And when he said he was sorry that some people were mean, I’d have told those children that it’s a shame your Dad didn’t put any thought into planning this trip in a way where you could all sit together. I flew with him and my mom multiple times in middle school and high school and I don’t think we ever all three had seats next to each other. Me being an anxious teenage girl though, my dad ALWAYS took the lone seat next to strangers so my mom and I would be together or at least in a more comfortable spot. Not once did we ever ask one of the people who paid money for a specific seat to move. We were just glad to be on the damn plane lol. Airlines will not allow a young child to sit alone. When I traveled with my then family of 3, the only time we were ever split up, they changed my ticket to allow me to sit with my daughter because legally they can’t separate a child under 10 from a parent. They did tell me they couldn’t place both adults with our kid though. And that makes sense. So my husband sat on his own. If we were going to travel now that we have 2 kids, I’d pay extra to choose our seats together in advance because id need the extra help. Just pointing this out to say that no kid is being abandoned because people don’t give up their seat. That child is at least with their other parent and the other adult is just going to have to deal.

It happened to me once, and it was a flight attendant. I was flying back to Japan after a vacation.. home, and the flight attendant asked if it would be ok with me to switch seats, because these two boys (around 8-10yo, I think they were brothers) were flying back together without adults. I agreed, because it was 1- an aisle seat for another aisle seat 2- it was two kids that might not be used to flying, and it's a long flight from BC to Osaka. The flight attendant was very nice and the kids were very grateful, so yeah. But there was no entitlement, so that does make it more appropriate. Plus the kid next to me seemed a little panicked that the older boy wasn't there.

We do this because our kids are our responsibilities nobody else needs to be the inconvenienced because of us if possible. There is no excuse to not take care of these things ahead of time, hell the reason so many of our kids have a double scoop of neurodiversity is because my husband and I are both also ADHD and Autism, the only kids we have that are not nerodivergant are the ones we adopted and still I have always found the time and ability to make sure nobody is being bothered to move or whatever else because I didnt plan ahead, I also make sure I over pack snacks and entertainment for my kids (it has always helped that they have all always liked drawing and video games. @SabrinaSokoll thank you! It was 100% my fault and I felt really stupid. I had to accept my error and was just so fortunate that there are good people in this world that understand mistakes happen.

Sometimes incentives work. A parent offered to buy my drinks for my seat. I wasn't drinking the flight, but I gave up my seat since theirs was an aisle and no one in the middle, I switched. Sometimes they work to your advantage.

In Air Canada, if you don't pre-select your seats before check-in and are travelling with your kid, you sometimes get a nice little email saying "we've pre-selected your seats so your family can all sit together!". Sure it will be a row in the back, but my daughter is 2 we're not gonna be boarding and deplaning with any sort of speed anyway.

As a 5'10" lady, I purchase specific seats bc not every seat is made with enough room for my legs. I have sat in seats where my knees are jammed into the seat in front of me and I sitting as far back as I can. Leg room isn't a luxury for some, it is a necessity. Not my fault you didn't pick the correct seats.

I once refused to switch seats with a mom so she could sit next to her kids and she was just so surprised that I said no. I had switched my seat the day earlier so I could have an aisle seat as I was flying alone. I was just like, "No." and immediately put my headphones in. She didn't argue with me but she looked so shocked. The kids were like 10-12 and totally fine. They stayed so quiet and calm for a five hour flight. I think they were happy to not have to sit with their mom lol

Just ASK FIRST! I once got turfed out of my seat because a stewardess let a family who pre-boarded take over the row - I show up and a child is in my pre-assigned window seat - these are school age children - not toddlers stewardess hustles over and says family wants to sit together & offered me an aisle seat in another row - I complied but was not happy - mainly because NO ONE ASKED ME! - they just took the seat from me - like it or lump it. I DIDN’T make a fuss because the children are innocents, regardless of how rude their parents are, and I didn’t want them to remember, forever, that a strange woman complained that one of them was sitting in her seat. It’s only one flight!

14.33 stephanie soo covers a case which is tragically sad, where the misshapen like this happens. It's old narrow streets, everyone parks where they aren't supposed too cause it's always been fine. Then there's a fire and the trucks can't get down the narrow roads. I'm crying thinking about it. It was awful. So many people lost their lives, the firefighters digging with their bare hands, the equipment couldn't get through either. It was in the middle of the night so trying to get people to move the cara or even find who's who was chaos. They had to walk so far in. Yeah it's unlikely to happen, but it does happen, and it's absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. Love that he could of went over the car, but on principle he went through it. DO NOT KEEP PEOPLE WHO LITERALLY SAVE LIVES FROM DOING THEIR JOB OR MAKE IT HARDER FOR THEM.

I travel long haul with my kids, I have been advised by airlines that I have to pay for my seats if I want my kids to sit with me , there is no guarantee that they will be next to me ( I was told this when I called) because all seats are up for sale. Now you have to factor in the cost of checked in luggage and seats, some airlines even the hand luggage has to be paid for as well.

Family of 5 and we travel often. I always pay extra at booking to pick our seats so we're all together. It is definitely worth it. I have long legs and need the extra room. The few times I waited too long to book I at least had 3 in one row and 2 in another row. A lady asked me once if she could switch seats with my daughter but I said absolutely not. It was a almost 15 hr flight and I already had to do 2 of us in 1 row and 2 of us in another. No one I was putting my teen elsewhere. She gave me an ugly look and the flight attendant said "Ma'am she paid for those seats and her daughters a minor. Please sit down"

And that’s why I choose my seats when I book my flights! I am flying for Thanksgiving with my 3 year old and 3 month old BY MYSELF! I never want to risk being separated from my children on a flight or even have the added stress of making sure we’re together.

8:56 the only time I’d switch is if it benefits me (better seat). Don’t expect someone to switch their ideal seat with your crappy seat. But if you have a good seat, and you’re willing to give it up to sit with loved ones, that is something I’m cool with. But nah, it rarely works that way. People are entitled AF

13:00 - I remember a story from years ago, might have actually been the 90s, where this guy figured out that each cable channel broadcasts on its own very specific frequency. He REALLY did not like Fox News, so he made this little BNC adapter that would block just that specific frequency for Fox News. He made hundreds of them, and went around to hotels and screwed the adapters onto the backs of the televisions. Ugh. Yay. You win, I guess?
