Hi Jeremy, this is Cici from Berkeley, California, and I've been subscribed to your channel a few months now. I especially enjoy the cookbook reviews and your family's responses - Annie reminds me a lot of myself at her age, although she is much more open to healthy food than I was back then. I have been 16:8 intermittent fasting for the last couple weeks in an effort to break my plateau. I lost about 110 lbs but have been maintaining for the past year and still have about 60 more pounds I want to lose. I did 12:12 schedule before. I have not broken through the glass floor yet, but I'm working on establishing a few healthy habits and am hopeful something is going to shift soon. I retired this summer, and realized I was mismanaging my time and need to establish a schedule for myself. I have been bouncing around in about a 10 lb range the past year; I'll have a few consecutive days of progress, then overindulge one day from a restaurant or grazing which undoes my progress. So I am trying to be more consistent, exercising daily in the morning before my first meal around lunchtime, trying to avoid restaurants, and getting back to basics by eating more non-starchy veg and fruit that are low in caloric density and cutting back a bit on the more calorie dense food like nuts etc, daily journaling, and less screen-time/no cellphone in the bedroom. I also wanted to point out that my yearlong plateau was not exactly no progress, just no progress on the scale. When I took my measurements, I realized I actually lost a couple inches in the waist and hips although my weight was the same, so I think I gained muscle and lost fat. So other folks who feel stick may find the scale is not the only measure of progress.
@pbwithjeremy
@pbwithjeremy 8 ай бұрын
Hey Cici!!! Thanks for sharing all of this and telling us more about you and your journey. Sounds like you're doing everything right! And I think you nailed it in the end - the number on the scale isn't everything so I'm glad you're also measuring those things as well. What are you doing for exercise? Walking an hour a day (break it up into 2-3 small walks if needed) will be a great help. But also buy some small weights or resistance bands and find some KZbin videos that will help you build up some muscle - muscle burns fat, so the more the better in this capacity. No matter your age there's always a way to be active. Sounds like you're really doing great and have plan. Let me know if I missed anything!
@MsConstantComment
@MsConstantComment 8 ай бұрын
My new routine includes 15 minutes of exercises and stretches in my bed and bedroom before I get up, then 30 minutes of guided dance exercise. I also walk for about an hour, occasionally more, most days in the afternoon, often in the hills, and I go out dancing once or twice most weeks, and occasionally have dance parties for one at home. I have some exercise equipment with resistance, but I rarely use it. Although when it's rainy and I don't want to go outside to walk, sometimes I pull the exercise equipment out of the corner and use it. I think what is getting in the way of my progress has more to do with food than exercise, and some of it may be psychological. Occasionally I will get really hungry and do some unplanned snacking, on healthy food but still extra calories. Or rarely I will buy or make some snack food that I have trouble not overeating. Or restaurant food can really throw me off, probably from the oil they use. It's been only one or two days a week that I overeat, but that's enough to keep me maintaining instead of losing.
@pbwithjeremy
@pbwithjeremy 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for all of this. What about your current weight makes you think that it's too heavy for your body? Sounds like you're doing quite well. And an occasional indulgence is fine so long as you're able to get back to your healthy ways - which it seems like you're able to :) Try adding those resistance bands into the rotation twice a week and see if it helps anything. Otherwise just perhaps reduce your grains in your meals and bump up the veg/fruit to fill you up?
@MsConstantComment
@MsConstantComment 8 ай бұрын
My goal is the high end of the normal BMI for my height. I'm mostly concerned about all the weight I am carrying in my belly, which can't be good for my internal organs. I have been maintaining just above 200 lbs, after a peak of 317, and I am only 5'4". I did get below 200 for 3 days a couple weeks ago, but I 'm back at 204 now. This is a good sign, though, that something is starting to shift, because I had been bouncing between 202 and 212 for a year, and had not been below 200 since I had my son, who is now 32. I am doing some exercises to work on my muscles and core, beyond the regular walking and dancing, and I am trying to fill up more on vegetables and fruit, as well as 16:8 intermittent fasting.

We, like you, don’t eat between our evening meal and breakfast, usually between 12 and 13 hours. This feels natural and I didn’t really realise we were intermittent fasting until I read about it a while ago.

I am more or less maintaining my weight, but it fluctuates! I have dipped my toe into plant-based before but fell off the wagon. I intent to stay on it this time. We watched that Netflix series "You are what you Eat". Oh man, that really got me motivated. Hubby too, so this makes things so much easier. Stay well, and now - it's off to make some tasty plant-based waffles! PS - I like "jammers" too! We are all just a bunch of nuts..😄

If I eat early in the day, it seems to make me hungrier than usual. So I am in a habit of eating after mid-day and a lighter meal later in the day. This has worked for me losing over 70 pounds and keeping it off 5 years on. Unfortunately coffee (caffeine) is not hydrating, as a matter of fact it is dehydrating as you said and also stops nutrients reaching the cells. When we fast, the body can burn calories, and when we eat it stops. It is really that simple. We tend to forget to allow the body to do its thing by sabotaging it when we continuously eat… ❤ ُthanks Jeremy

I did gain back, mostly because I'd lost too much, and I'm gaining more muscle. There's also just a lot of excess skin that isn't flattering in some areas, but don't feel like having another surgery to remove it at this point. I'm certainly the healthiest I've been, while still enjoying some treats here and there :)

This was excellent. It’s everything that took me a decade to learn lol. Myself, I just went for the early dinner/cutoff time method which had the snowball effect of making me go to bed earlier. It’s the simplest way for me. Also I work out early morning so I ate most of my calories early to support that activity. Also for my coffee brethren - there’s high quality decaf these days! If you need that mid-day or afternoon ritual with 99.9% less caffeine (that .01% will not ruin your sleep, promise 😂) go to a good local roaster and get some of that good good stuff. Fun fact, the Swiss water process (one method of decaffeinating coffee) was actually created in Vancouver, Canada!

I guess I eat intuitively. I still need to lose at least 30 pounds, but like you said, it's a process. As a type 1 diabetic, I always thought I had to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and they had to be planned out according to a specific regimen. I'm now reading Mastering Diabetes by Robbie Barbieri (I think) and another guy who's nutritional microbiologist (PhD). I can't remember, but some of your commenters might know. Anyway, it's changing my presumptions about a lot of things! Having said that, I'm new to your channel and am really enjoying it! Btw, I'm from sunny Sarasota Florida!

I try to do the 12:12 fast schedule, and only have coffee with plant based milk for the first hour or two in the morning before I eat food. Sleeping video would be great. I have ADHD with OCD and Anxieties. Sometimes, I can sleep w/o issues. The other times, I am lucky if I get 3 hours. I stopped dring coffee about 3 months ago. That has helped with lowering my BP to normal levels, and it has helped me get better sleep. I drink at least 64oz of water a day. In addition, I also drink the new mushroom power, herbal and green tea, but I do all the other drinks sparingly as water is my main go to now.

I know for me it’s important to have an evening cut off time and that’s usually 6-7 pm. Some mornings I’m hungry and I will eat maybe at 9 and other mornings I’m not hungry and will have lunch as my first meal. This way I’m more relaxed and able to listen to my own needs.

Hey Jeremy! I am currently doing a version of intermittent fasting (16:8) as part of my weight loss program. It has been working great, but things have slowed down now that I have lost 50lbs. I do better when I eat a pretty strict whole plant foods only diet, but I find that I will “cheat” more if I’m feeling deprived. I’m working with a coach and trying to stick to the plan, but I find myself stuck in this cycle almost like a binge/restrict cycle. I lose two pounds and then gain it back. I have lost only 2lbs in the last two months. I know no one who is whole food plant based in my real world which makes me feel like a salmon swimming upstream sometimes. I would like to get back to the 5-7lbs a month weight loss I experienced in the beginning of my journey, but I just can’t seem to maintain the discipline I seem to need at this point. Any thoughts? ❤Susan from Lincoln, California (yes, that Susan 😉) P.S. I look forward to your videos so much! I especially love the cookbook reviews and when you cook for non vegans. Say hi to the fam for me!
@pbwithjeremy
@pbwithjeremy 8 ай бұрын
Hey Susan - so for what it's worth 2 pounds a month is a very healthy rate to lose weight - and generally it stays off - people that lose weight quickly rarely keep it off - I'm a rare beast in this way - so I think it sounds like you're doing great! Stop restricting yourself - just make better choices. Take all the junk out of your house so when you reach for something it's fruit or veggies and if you don't feel like that they tell yourself that you're probably not actually hungry :) Everyone says hi back!
