What should you do as the contractor if the insurance adjuster writes an estimate for a certain amount, you write your estimate as a supplement for twice that amount and the insurance adjuster tries to get you to agree to their repair estimate for only half that amount, in the middle? They say they will send the check if you agree to their estimate. Watch out for this. In this video, we cover exactly what to do about this challenge.

This week is the first time I’ve ever seen this, We removed a tree off a house it had a metal roof. The adjuster said a lot of things, but in the end, he only approved about a third of the roof. I told the owner this was only the first step but within the first 7 days of the storm his lawyer already claimed bad faith and gave them 60 days to approve the full roof replacement. There was no price attached just approval of scope of work.

I have worked for insurance companies in the past. I would love to get back on a few lists. My contacts retired and the new guys preferred their own contractors. I was in the groove for a number of years after proving to a district manager that an agent was taking kickbacks from his construction accomplice. I had done many bids and had not gotten any of them. Always told better luck next time. When calling to check status on some of my quotes I was answered by the district manager. The bids on file did not parallel the ones I had sent. I courteously resent my bids to that manager. Yea it hit the fan.

That’s crazy! I’m sorry that happened to you! Kickbacks for agents are absolutely not the way to go. Not at all worth it. Thanks for watching and for the comment. 🙏👊😉

@@InsuranceRestorationTraining as you would expect the criminal adjuster was fired. I was called by him a couple of weeks later and called a few choice names and told that if I had been a player I could have been in on it.

As far as the time table.. it doesn't exist. You don't need new evidence. I'm in collections. I have collected from insurance carriers 2 or 3 years after they closed it. As long as the contractor did NOT agree to the insurance payment, you can still reopen it.

As an active adjuster who has worked worked for a roofing company. Insurance companies have something called estimating guide lines which means this is how we address a claim. Adjusters enforce the policy. Which has nothing to do with GAF, Owens Cornering warranties etc. For example contractor says we had to replace the sheathing. Policy may have a endorsement. Endorsements add or take away coverage. Contractor says the sheathng is rotted. Policy says we don't cover dry rot. We need a nailable service policy states has to be damaged by a cover peril meaning if hail the size of a soft ball does not penetrate through the roof surface and damage the sheathing it will not be covered PER THE POLICY (get used to hearing that). When filing a supplement don't send in a bunch of photos up close with no labeling, overviews of slopes and elevations with a finger pointing at it like what part of the roof is that? What slope is that is that? Is that even the right property? Take a pic of the property mailbox or front elevation with the residence address on it etc... You want to make it as easy as possible for the adjuster to access the damages duh there the ones cutting the check aka don't fumble the bag. Adjusters have 100's of claims to deal with and every insured thinks there claim is the most important and rightfully so. Between buying licenses, taking file notes, sending emails, chatting with agents, answering phone calls, meetings, trainings etc.. Nobody has time to sit there and spin there wheels figuring what the hell there looking at because the contractors photos look like a kid holding a magnifying glass to ant. Make your life easier by paying attention to detail photos and a itemized estimate. Sythentic felt take a photo, I&W take photos leave no doubt that the material is present because if not do to high claim volume like 70 claims per desk adjuster and lack of detail guess what DENIED and thats another closure. Now if the adjuster is on fee schedule he or she is trying to write for as much damage (STORM RELATED) sudden accidental which means an act of god as possible because you receive a percentage of each claim you close. The video it's cool, however if you do the things I said I bet you get alot more supplements approved. FYI figure out if the insured has an ACV policy , Factoring, or scheduling. Because if its not a RCV policy you in for a rude awakening, but don't take my foolish advice.

I put law, code, industry standards, the standard of care Bus.prof codes. CAL OSHA law, white paper everything and anything relevant I have learned through all associations. The adjuster still ignore it all. Try to push there vendor tell clients we are to expensive. Tell us we can’t do this can’t do that. We like to ask so are you the hired contractor preforming the work? The amount of knowledge contractor need to be successful in restoration is crazy. I would Much rather just deal with engineers all day. At least they understand. Contractor should not have to jump through adjuster hoops. All risk lays in our hands and we cannot act as a PA but these adjuster get away with acting as contractors. The best thing we ever did was learn what we can do legal to engage the insured to participate in the claim fully. Thanks to people like you other associations and contacting a restoration construction lawyer. This has been a game changer. Good luck everyone.

Awesome comment, my friend. It sounds like you are putting in all of the effort and are taking your trade seriously. You are so correct. It is preposterous that contractors should have to go to the lengths that they do because the adjusters make it necessary. Keep doing the right things. You are still making a difference. Thanks for watching! 🙏💖👊😉
