4th generation Texan here. My dad taught me about things like this, and watching weather patterns, and how the seasons change, and what plants could tell you about the environment, like it was a responsibility to know and understand because we lived here. And a Texan sized amount pride for knowing it too.

Thanks to the Mrs on behalf of the Native Plant Society of Texas. My bumpersticker says Native Plants equal Healthy Habitats. If you care about native wildlife, you should care about native plants.

Got yourself a real Texas nature girl. Some of them are good witches. Totally a fun chic to be around. Life is an adventure!

Yep learn these things from dad and grandma and wowed my city kid students wth these tricks in the school garden. So sad that kids don't get outside catching bugs, tadpoles and other little critter. We learned about life and had better immunity playing in the dirt and sunshine.

I was telling my husband about this about the green weeds that move like a caterpillar. I would put one on my leg half inside my shorts and rub on top of the shorts and it would walk in the rest of the way! I could actually show him what I was talking about!! Brilliant!

I found that in my rose bed yesterday… I guess I won’t be pulling the longhorn milkweed up just yet.

There's actually several varieties of milkweed that the monarch caterpillars will eat. Green milkweed is another native variety.

You always walk animal paths, that's how you get through the brush. Of course, you probably live outside of the city, if you do that on the regular.

had an adventure with fire ants, yet? A cup of sugar or cornflour, add a heaping tablespoon of borax (the detergent) to it, pour it on the mound and run like Pegasus. Horn toads love the ants, so mind you don't poison them. Sugar goes to the gardens where borax kills the fungus they live on. Grain flour is eaten where it's found. When ants drink, it swells and they pop open, then are fertilizer in the garden. May it rain!

Danger danger if you see a kid playing with one of these plants get it away if they put it in their mouth they could seriously choke to death.
