Ryan, your content has made me a lawn connoisseur. I now look at every turf problem as solvable. Knowledge is always key. There is a solution to everything that used to drive me mad! Thanks to you, my skills are much improved. I know I have loads of things still to learn. That is the fun part. Thanks for being one of my best teachers. My garden is on the National garden conservancy and is visited by about 500-600 people each year. Your advice is making their viewing experience better and better. People enjoy my garden and say it is one of the highlights of each season. I owe so much to you and your channel. Cheers and many thanks indeed!

I seeded once in spring and it wasn't strong enought to survive once the heat came. I agree that it is a gamble. After my experience, I decided to just do my best maintenance and weed control throughout spring and summer, and then go full throttle on dethatch/aerate/overseed after the first couple weeks in Sept.

Ryan, first and foremost you have been the largest influence on my lawn care journey, thank you for the passion you bring to all of us! I did a lawn renovation on my first home, we bought last year, in the fall. I followed up this spring, installing irrigation and did some overseeing. I planted lesco sun and shade mix, equal parts PRG, KBG, creeping red fescue. I live in RI. Now the question: I have some POA showing seed heads. What should I do to get rid of it before it becomes a problem? You’re the man, thanks in advance for the insight.

I live on Long Island and the temps have been in high 50’s low 60’s. So Wednesday I spent the afternoon planting seed in the dead patches in my backyard. And I over seeded my front yard. It’s been dry here for a few weeks. I watered my front Thursday and Friday just enough to keep seed wet. And in back yard I watered the bare spots I seeded. And I checked the weather and today we were to have rain and now tomorrow also. So I went ahead and overseeded back yard yesterday morning. We look to have a good amount of Rain chances over next week. Last year we had a whacky spring. Last year when I got my weed preventer down. We had a freeze and I think it kinda messed things up. So I didn’t get to seed until may last year due to cold. And it snowed day before Mother’s Day last year. So fingers crossed we are done with any freezing temps here

I've heard you should not plant new grass seed and fertilize at the same time. Which should I do first? How long should I wait in between? When should I spread lime? I have 6,300 sq ft in Boston. Soil temp is 57 now. I ordered your 24-0-6 Flagship Bio-Nite fertilizer and it arrived. 1,000 sq ft will be new lawn planting for the first time. The rest has patchy grass (some sections less than 30% grass). I bought the property three years ago and did no treatment other than mow and water. I've dethatched it twice and it looks much better. That helped take up dead grass and excess moss. There were too many mulched-up leaves and other debris leftovers from the Fall. Any advice is appreciated. I love your videos and your PDF guide download!

Dormant seeding is a good option for overseeding. Late summer pre-emergent is no longer in conflict with Fall seeding, so poa is controlled the following Spring. With all leaves down/removed by December's end, it's time to overseed cool season grasses, especially during frost/thaw cycles that create soil pockets. Surprise results by Spring.

Great tips Ryan! I have watched your Spring lawn care many times 😆 I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, and it has been very warm than last year at this time. I am new to using pre-emergent. When I decided to apply Tenacity before seeding, I found some weeds already popping (dandelion, many clover, poa, quackgrass, creeping charlie).I don't have quinclorac.. it was cold/warm switching around so I was hesitating to put down pre-emergent, and ended up being late. After I sprayed Tenacity (1/2 tsp in 1 gallon of water per 1000sqft), I watered it in. It's been almost a week. I don't see much of bleaching and rather see weeds growing 🙄 How many days later would you recommend to re-apply Tenacity after seeding? 2weeks, or 4 ? there are so many different info on internet, so Ia a bit confused. Thank you very much!

Hey, great videos. So quick question: Due to a some sprinkler system issues, some weird mixed light conditions (deep shade followed by direct sun) and a puppy that peed all over the yard, my front lawn is essentially gone -- lots of large dirt patches, weeds, dead grass and mixed grass types. The soil is dry and densely packed. Is reseeding worth it at this point, or should I just re-sod? The whole thing is less than 300 sq ft.

Spraying weeds in a couple of days, post mow. I don't feel so bad now for the chickweed invading my front lawn. Hopefully the wind will have died down, and lawn dried up. We have had 2"+ of rain the past 4 days, been a wet spring so far. Grass was 6-7" long. The clover in back didn't die off last with last years applications, think my triclopyr was degraded as bottles were 4+ years old. Got some new ortho lawnclear to hopefully knock these all dead.
