I love this. I remember having stressful experiences sometimes in the past and wondered if this will shed light on it. It was very helpful. I remember some of my very first trips and a lot of it had to do with high expectations. I've also noticed that me and my sisters would get mad at each other when we're tired which you pointed out. I'm not an avid traveler, but this would be good to look back on so as not to ruin any future trips.

Good advise! I am currently hiding out in Costa Rica, taking a break from camping and traveling after 11 months on the road. Feels so good just to watch youtube and chill in AC. After a couple weeks in my rental I am starting to get the itch to get back out there exploring again and that's a good thing. I've been looking at maps, planning and I'm actually excited to go driving down some more dirt roads, looking for surf in the Central America rainy season.

Hey Lindsay, I really like your videos, & you've got a really quirky charm about your personality. Anyways, I've currently been hiking across the country, looking for adventure, & getting as far out of my comfort zone as I can. I've been out for 2 months now, and have walked over 900 miles. & I can definitely relate to the advice in this video. There have been some rough times, but no day has been without something good. There have been days of constant rain, grueling uphill climbs, and days where, like you said I'm just worn out from the previous day. My solution for hiking in the rain: is find a song to sing out loud on my playlist, and splash those puddles; and hopefully end the day at a hostel, to dry.

same thing happened to me when i was in chiang mai for the second time also! I had the same feelings. I ended up just curling up in my hostel watching netflix for 3 days. When I went back down to bangkok (even though I had been there 5 times before on this trip), everything was good again. I recreated that feeling of excitement, met a bunch of people and fel in love with travel again. I felt super bad in Chiang Mai because I had extended my trip then went back to my favourite place (CM), but it didnt live up to my expectations of how it was last time. thanks for making everything clear for me. :)

Very solid advice! Love your videos. Never stop making them! Just out of curiosity, Have you ever failed at finding accommodations and was forced to sleep outside? How did you deal with it? I'm planning on traveling solo pretty soon, and that's one of my biggest worries.
@lindsaymccormick96077 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ryan! Hm... you'll always be able to find a place, it just might be more rustic (at a bus station or the beach) or expensive (sucking it up and going to stay at a chain like a Hilton or Marriott) than you'd like but no matter what, you can make it work. If you arrive to a city or country in the middle of the night, don't look for accommodations, stay at the airport or bus station until the sun comes up and start looking for a place to stay then. The closest I've ever come to not having a place to stay was when I arrived to a tiny beach town in Costa Rica at dusk and every single guest house and hostel was booked out and there were no more busses out of town until morning. I thought I was going to have to sleep on the beach but then one of the hostel owners let me sleep in a hammock for $7 in the common area and then I found a new place the next day. If you get stuck for one night, just make it work with what ever you can (sleep on the beach, at the bus station, where ever) and then figure it out the next day. It's only one night of sleep :)

I think the one thing that stresses me out while travelling is people. I have a lot of introverted qualities so spending days road tripping with people and not having a few hours of alone time to recharge and do my own thing is difficult. For some reason it's hard for me to tell someone (besides my boyfriend) that I don't particularly like something so I bottle things up and end up grumpy. I'll have to learn how to express myself better or how incorporate more alone time in travel.
@lindsaymccormick96077 жыл бұрын
Ah, yeah. That sometimes happens to the best of us. Sometimes I pop headphones in and don't even listen to music just to get a little peace and quiet (people tend to leave you alone when it looks like you're listening to music lol.) I am super social but I also need a lot of downtime to myself too so I'm always looking for that balance when traveling. Maybe just try speaking up little by little when you don't love something so you can get comfortable with the feeling. That's the great thing about traveling sometimes you'll find things you love and sometimes you find things you don't love and both are okay. Hope this helps and happy travels! :)

Hi Lindsay. I've recently starting watching your videos and I was wondering if you could give me some advice. So I am planning a backpackers style trip through India for 1-2 months with 2 other friends (male and female) We will all be 19 then. Do you think India is too big, too hectic and just too difficult for 19 year olds to travel through? Do you think we should start of with something smaller? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks for all your helpful and inspiring content also! ( I live in Australia and I have some past 1st world travelling experiences, Europe solo trip etc.)
@lindsaymccormick96077 жыл бұрын
Oh wow. Tough question lol. India is amazing and I'd never want to discourage anyone from traveling there (it's honestly one of my very favorite countries, you should go!) but personally I was very thankful that I traveled around South East Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines) BEFORE I went to India. India, to me, is a really great solo travel destination because it challenges you to look at yourself and the world in a different way. I found India to be very introspective and I don't think that would have worked very well if I was traveling with friends. South East Asia is a really great "travel with friends" destination (even though I traveled there solo still lol) - it's a bit easier to navigate and is a fun mix of adventure and accessibility. If it helps, my younger brother backpacked around Europe and then asked me where he should go next with a few of his friends and I told him to look into South East Asia - he did and they all had a great time. No matter where you go though, it is bound to be an adventure - keep me posted on what you pick and Happy travels! :)
@innersub36997 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this information! I'll keep all of this in mind. India of course seems amazing but I do want to make the most of that trip by having enough experience or going solo! However at the same time I can't wait also! I'll definitely give South East Asia a better look now. Thank you!

Hey, I just wanted to ask about vaccines. Which ones have you got? I got the typhus one. They said the yellow fever one is necessary if i go to latin america BUT Im only going to Peru and urban centres. Also, what happens with medication? I have a chronic stomach disease, is there a way to take some prescriptions with me from Greece or...? Maybe i can just buy meds there if I need them? Docs here dont know a good deal about this.
@lindsaymccormick96077 жыл бұрын
Hmm... okay. Let's tackle these one at a time. For Central America, I didn't get any vaccines but I was up to day on my shots (like tetanus etc) and I had gotten my yellow fever vac a few years before and that is good for like 10 years I think? So I'm not sure on that. I would research that more on your end to see if it's worth getting it. What I will say is if you can you might as well because you'll need it in some places in Africa if you ever wanna hop around there and it lasts for a long time. For your prescriptions, I would bring as much as you can. Maybe you can transfer it into bags if you need to save space but make sure you have the labels and your paperwork in case anyone asks. You can usually find generic prescriptions in other countries but just in case I would make sure you have enough medicine for a few months so if for any reason you can't find any, you've covered for then at least. Hope this helps! :)
