This is a fan requested video to try and find the best version of Frank Zane. It is impossible to find all the poses of each version, but I will do my best for this one!

Wish there were more pics. Zane was never the biggest but he was like a statue carved by the Italian renaissance artist during his prime years of '78 and '79. You were 100% correct '83 is underrated.

'79 is definitely the best combination of mass and conditioning
@lesnuitssanskimwilde8834 жыл бұрын
The 72 zane just looked so aesthetic, very god like. I think he lost some of that when he got very lean. In fact his better conditionning makes him look much older, with a sort of old man skin and that not so eye pleasing vascularity. That may sound gay but I really like his skin in 1972.

My perspective on physiques and what is good has changed over my time as a bodybuilding fan. But frank (and Danny padilla) are still my dream physiques

omg, these pix! just heavenly! I keep forgetting about Frank and how amazing he was! that 79 is one of the best standing relaxed!
@badassmanale4 жыл бұрын
Frank said that in 1982 he tried to play the size game, I believe he said he came in at 190 or 195, and thus sacrificed his conditioning too much. That's why he came in PEELED in 83, but a little too flat to compete with Samir, Makkawy and Haney who were bigger and/or rounder (and in Samir´s case equally shredded)

was there any time that frank zane reached 200lbs?

Great video, thank you. Would you also consider doing a video on when Rich Gaspari was in his best Olympia shape? I think 1988 and 1989. In 88 his waist was smaller than other years but in 1989 his arms were really big and his delts capped and round and his back thickness and width was his best ever. But he was smoother in 89 and had the pec injury. Thanks

Good thing I like about zane is he always looked different every year..with the exception of 1980 he looked different and better every year..80 was understandable due to accident and shouldn't of competed .

my favourite is 1983. He had packed up a good portion of more mass. The only thing missing was the abs size and flexing.

Thanks for this great video comparison Marx. Would you do one of Rich Gaspari in all the years he competed? I thought 1982 was Franks best in terms of being full and proportionate. He might have been slightly less ripped than 77-79 but I thought certain areas really filled out well.

1979 Mr. Olympia he was the biggest and still ripped. He had to get ripped in 1983 and lost too much muscle really.
@ryutenmen4 жыл бұрын
What it would the reason for Zane being so slim, why didn't he had bigger muscles? Was it his somatic body type(ectomorph) who didn't allowed him to grow bigger muscles, or he didn't took lots of "vitamin S"?
@bambostarla62592 жыл бұрын
He wasnt an ectomorph. He you see his "natural" physique he has a supreme structure of a mesomorph. Probably didnt take as many drugs as the others, who knows
@odessafile75 Жыл бұрын
Zane was a combination ectomorph/ mesomorph. He took the same steroids as his competitors he just didn't have the same genetic potential to be as large with his smaller bones and muscular structure.

Not suggesting this for a video... or am I, but I was wondering who you think the most consistent bodybuilder of all time is? Feel free to say somebody other than Dexter as I feel he may be a bit of an obvious choice
@cemsari82124 жыл бұрын
TheMindMuscleConnection Other than Dexter (obviously), I would maybe pick Shawn, Jay and Lee Haney. Shawn placed Top 5 in the Olympia from 1990-2001 without a single year where he was completely off. Same goes for Lee...he never had a “bad“ year during his 8 wins. And as for Jay...he placed Top 2 in the Olympia 10 different times. He’s a 4-time winner and a 6-time runner-up. But other than Shawn and Lee, Jay had a few years where he was not so convincing (2007 and 2008 for example).
@therealoorage4 жыл бұрын
Cem Sari yeah I’d go with Dexter, Shawn and Lee like you! Wouldn’t go with a Jay though just because of 07 and 08, not to mention his ghastly showing in 2013 lol.

ronnie? 26 pro victories and only couple arguably disappointing showings
@abhishekchaudhry804 жыл бұрын
Come on Robbie Robinson still pumping Iron but I don't about bodybuilding competition though
@cemsari82124 жыл бұрын
i have to wait 90 days to change my name Yeah true...Ronnie deserves to be in there💪🏼. I just feel like most people think that his last two Olympias really hurt him when you’re talking about consistency. But 8 Olympia’s and 26 Pro Wins is amazing. He overshadowed anybody he competed with. Thinking about it I may even put Kevin into the list. He competed through the 90s and the early 2000s while being a runner up in a lot of them. He also has the third most pro wins in history (23) only behind Dexter (28) and Ronnie (26).

1979 is the best version of Zane in my opinion. Didn't he had a major accident leading into the 1982 Olympia? Or was that a different year?
@majortwang23963 жыл бұрын
1980 was his accident. A deckchair broke under him & severed his urethra. Ended up about 10lb lighter, and that was mass he couldn't afford to give away to Arnold.

@marxmaxmuscle14 жыл бұрын
you're right he has bigger arms. 79 might have had a bit more muscle than 83. Back shots might be better in 83 though.
@richard13284 жыл бұрын
I find this happens to a lot of bodybuilders as they age. Such as Phil Health, way better back but arms get smaller it's weird. Maybe a topic to go over......

It's very difficult to compare between FZ pictures but, in my opinion, I think he brought the total package at the 1979 Mr. O. 1983 wasn't far behind.
