American here, we did that years ago, and went with a antenna and purchased a roku, and get free channels with it, and can rent movies thru it, and can also watch youtube on the tv.

Why should I pay 159 quid to watch Eastenders once a year and the news on a blue moon, I paid last year and I feel I’ve been robed. Now there sending letters through the door saying they could fine me 1000 as I haven’t paid for a few months all because they couldn’t take one direct debit as I had no money in my account in that day. “ couldn’t they just try again on another day like normal services do 🤷🏼”. But I was on the site and ready to renew it. But then thought to myself do I really want to pay that much to here Phil Mitchell’s voice while cooking once in s blue moon? Is it even worth it.?

You can watch EastEnders or almost 90% of any thing on catch-up or KZbin now TV etc without watching live TV. So get rid of the licence most fines are £200-300 and you only get that if you go to court so shut the door don't let them in don't answer any questions just say no thanks shut the door after a while they will leave you alone. TV detector vans are empty have no detection capabilities never have. Don't have you TV visible from your front door mute it when answering the door. Close curtains when watching stops accidental snooping 😊

@@annsandell890 lucky for me I have not watched TV for years. When I moved into this house 2 years ago the previous owner cut the cable to the TV aerial and the sky dish and I never reconnected them lol I stopped watching TV when I got my driving licence and ham radio licence.

You will be harassed if you just stop paying. You need to cancel via the online form. Once done, you will get a confirmation letter from BBC Licencing, and you will not be harassed.

Pull the cable from your satellite dish and tv aerial outside. Then they will see it’s not connected, so you aren’t watching!

​@@oldgrouch1835most countries Inc UK have a TV licence to watch or record live TV, that's programs that are advertised to broadcast at certain times BBC and ITV also covers BBC own iPlayer. £159 at the moment for the privilege. We can opt out if we don't watch or capable of watching and only use TV etc with streaming services. The BBC take £3.5 billion approx and have around 30,000 employees and are the governments propaganda station 😊

One factoid that i learned that kinda correlates with this is that right until the mid 70s there wasn't such a thing as "commercial" radio in the UK because it wasn't allowed. The only ways to get an alternative to the BBC radio services was either through pirate radio ships like Radio Caroline or through Radio Luxembourg. This boggles my mind simply because it's ridiculous how much power the BBC was allowed to have over the years.
