I read it was started on 4chan by an anonymous poster named “Q” who claimed to be in the US military and have access to classified info. It was followed by others a claiming to be in the FBI and CIA. So at a certain point their anonymous posts became facts for some really gullible people. You can spread conspiracy theories very quickly on the internet if you have the right audience, the scariest thing is these people have children who will be emotional damaged by this.

I’m 17 and I left home bc of this. It was scary. My mom was obsessed, “researching” 18-20 hrs a day. She was always prepping for the apocalypse and she’d make me watch these rly creepy videos, yell at me when I tried to give her facts, and tried to stop me from getting vaccinated saying she’ll never talk to me again if I got the flu shot. Being a Boomer myself (b.1961), I am amazed at the blind belief a LOT...not all...of my generation has in stuff like this. We were the generation that started the environmental movement, engaged in the Civil Rights movement, protested the Viet Nam war, started the counterculture and looked questioned authority. With age is supposed to come wisdom. It goes beyond lack of skills on the internet, which ironically Boomers had a major hand in inventing. I didn't start using a computer regularly until I was 40 years old, but I never stopped thinking for myself, weighing facts, separating them from opinion and falsehood and using plain old common sense. Boomers and undereducated "low class" people are somewhat shown as the face of this, but the problem goes way beyond any single generation or demographic.

She has a degree, makes more money than anyone else in my family, is very attractive and I always looked up to her when I was young. Q anon was the work of two former 4chan moderators, Pamphlet Anon ( real name Coleman Rogers) and BaruchtheScribe (real name Paul Furber). This was done in conjunction with KZbinr/blogger and /x/ poster Tracey Diaz, who had previously been involved with heavily with the pizzagate conspiracy. Rogers authored the posts whilst Pamphlet Anon and Diaz handled logistics and promotion respectively. The q anon posts moved from 4chan to eightchan after Pamphlet and Barach were fired from their positions as 4chan staff. Around about the same time they created the original qanon subredddit, CBTS_Stream. This was to reach a wider audience, and ultimately drive more people to Diaz's youtube channel and more importantly, her patreon. Rogers would later create the youtube channel Patriots soapbox, another vector for earning money from the conspiracy.
