Very enjoyable video Mike! I got into weight lifting in early college to look better and to get stronger. I do classic car restoration as a hobby so being strong saves a lot of time. Once I got some newbie gains I also noticed an improvement in how people treated me. I've always been treated well, but women were easier to attract, and men were more respectful. Up until a couple years ago I was a complete unguided missile with my training. I moved weights around loosely structured by a bro split. Plateaued gains and excess shoulder pain made me start digging deeper into how to train and I learned how clueless I was. I've noticed a whole new wave of gains, and again, an additional uptick in how I am treated. Your content has been a big help! Thanks Mike! Also, I was into wrestling too (Ric Flair (I'm from Charlotte too), The Undertaker, Scott Hall (RIP)!

On my wife's account so it's not Jennifer lol. I'm Dave 44 and started the same way as most of us Arnold, Big Louie, Hogan etc... My dad was strong man massive 360 at 6'2 so I always wanted to be huge. Made it to 275 at 6 foot but it was chubby big lol. I've watched bodybuilding my entire life and when I came across you BIG Mike I got back into this game. Your physique is the what I'm gunning for. I've dropped 45 pounds of fat since August and I'm sitting at 230 now and trying to get back up around 275 of good quality muscle. Keep the videos coming, your training and tips are awesome. If you could incorporate more free weight solutions which I know you're not a fan of it would be great since I lift in the garage. Thanks again for all you do!!!!!

What a coincidence! I was a huge Ultimate Warrior fan as well and one time in the 90' s when the WWF was in town the wrestlers came to the Golds gym to work out where I trained ...To this day I have yet to see ANYONE as huge and lean as Jim Hellwig...aka Warrior..He was around 6'4 and told me he was around 280lbs..He was doing strict bb curls with 275 lbs and standing military presses for reps with 315lbs ...Only 4 plates on the leg press but for sets of 50 reps which made his quads blow up big time...It was hard to focus on my workout that day because overtime I turned around I was around Hillbilly Jim ,Jake Robert's Shaun Michals and Warrior...

Mike, first off you're awesome, thanks for all the tips! It all started for me while in the Army at NTC for about 6 months, when we were not out in the field 90% of my unit was out at the bowling alley or NCO club drinking. Since I was married at the time I wasn't interested in that, so there was a guy in my squad that was huge compared to my 150lb frame, that would go to the gym instead of drinking, I asked him if I could go with him, he said "sure" and showed me the basics. We had a PT test while there and it was the first time in 4 years I maxed the push-up section of the test, that's when bodybuilding became a priority in my life. That was about 30 years ago and I'm still hitting the gym twice a week. At one point I wanted to be as big as you Mike, I got up to about 210, but looked more like a powerlifter than a bodybuilder, and my joints were kicking my ass. So I changed up my workout style, and diet, lost about 20lbs now I'm looking more like a men's physique competitor. Still a work in progress, but I'm getting there, watching your videos has definitely helping me understand more of HOW to get there. But for 56yo I constantly have guys in the gym commenting on my physique (more women commenting would be nice though). I've thought of gear (in the past) but that's just not me, plus I've been doing it for this long without so why start now, and I don't want to buy a whole new wardrobe, I did it when I dropped the 20lbs, don't care to do it again. Again thanks for all you do Mike.

In 2007-8 I decided to get sober. I was partying HARD from 18yrs old-26yrs old. In 2009 I looked at myself in the mirror and I was skinny as hell. 6ft 165lbs. I said holy shit I gotta do something about this. So I remembered in high school I loved working out but that was forgetting about because of my hard core drinking issues. So I joined a gym in 2009 and haven’t stopped. Now I’m 235lbs with 19in arms. Lifting weights is my therapy. Instead of drinking after a funeral I go to the gym and let it out there. It has saved my life. I’d never be the man I am today without the bodybuilding lifestyle.

A little dark for a channel that has a lot of humor, but I grew up in a pretty violent home. I didn't start training until I turned 17, and I've always hated myself for not being big enough to protect myself or my younger siblings. I take that regret with me to the gym every day. The "never again" mindset is the only thing that helps me feel better about it really.

Back in the early 90’s my grandpa got me a dumbbell set with a Joe Weider’s Complete System book. I was in the fifth grade. I kept the weights under the bed and pulled them out every night. I was learning about supersets and pre-exhaust, etc and just in awe of the Lee Haney photos. I’m just as grateful for that book as I am for those weights. Since then the way I’ve done things has constantly evolved as I’ve learned. The most beautiful fucking thing about this sport. I’m 42 now, and guys like you constantly have me trying new ways of doing things. I probably could have just said “it started with Commando”, though.

Hello Mike, I am 14 year Army disabled vet. My back is messed up as well as well as my shoulders and knees, I had intense psoriatic nerve pain in my lower back. I went to my Pain Doctor at the V A hosp. He told me that I need to strengthen my lower back muscles. That was 9 years ago I still have the pain but not as bad. When I see others Vets in bad shape at the V A hospital it saddens me. I told my regular doctor that I will not end up in a wheelchair I will not end up in with a walker . I will follow my pain doctors instructions and continue to strengthen my lower back and the rest of my body. I am 63 now and I'm in better shape now than I have ever been but I still banged up in the inside, but I will never quit the gym. One thing is I getting complements now and then, but when I am working out with buddy of mine he would stop and I would tell him dude I am 3 decades older than you c'mon 2 more reps. A couple of huge body builders came over talk to us for a minute and one of them asked how old I am ? I told him 63. His reply was I hope that I look that good when I hit 63. I told him thanks.

Played football, boxed, basketball and baseball, and ROTC (military training)were my passions. Literally would get up at 4am, go to school, military train, school, train for upcoming football game, run to the gym, workout, run home, do homework and off to bed. Fall season, train military, practice baseball, run to gym run home, do homework and off to bed. Off season I would box. After graduation, I partied, got into recreational drugs and fucked up all of that progression. Now I'm older, want to be healthier not only for me, but my family as well. Want to live longer, be stronger and be proud of who I was, and now who I am.

I think for me what finally pushed me into becoming someone seriously into bodybuilding is discovering how many interesting and genuinely cool people are in bodybuilding. Back when I started training though it was simply because of how tired I was of all my life being the physique of a small and unathlethic twig. I heard about how my grandfather trained with weights for the same reason to get stronger and also for him to stop being bullied so much at school. Because of my appearance I was always in the background and had little to no self confidence either. Bodybuilding has changed everything from my gait to even how I perceive myself as a person. It’s pretty much revolutionized myself entirely as a person. It’s a passion for me and it’s about a steady state goal to better myself as a person and in appearance over time. Just to note any smaller stature guys out there, there is hope for us!

After 46 years of weight training, I can still feel that nervousness when doing squats. In the old days, we had iron plates. The trembling of the plates when unrack the barbell.... The backbone and the discipline it gave me, going through a failed relationship. The(inner) strength, but also to control it. Meditation gave me imagination. When I stopped all this, I became sober again. Reality might be an illusion, but we have to live that same reality. For the good or the worst. However, if I could do it all over again, I would try weightlifting also. I respect these men so much for their strength, flexibility and strong work ethic. To see Dimitry Klokov training, I can not imagine this extraordinary strength. The dark side of my journey is that I saw several of my (sport) friends dying , have severe injuries or health issues. They just could not accept to become 'normal' again. The loss of 'attention'. No turning heads. I never regret the day I stopped steroids at 28. Admit, if I could only be 25 years younger...... lol For the love of body-building. Knowing I am looking for something that does not exist. The secret! Still, there is still that idea that maybe......lol

being 10 years old one day i was walking by the press shop and i saw a picture of a man looking bigger, than all my heroes from Marvel universum. i was looking at those wide shoulders and incredibly small head (in comparison) and just below i saw reflection of myself in the window - i was completely opposite: small kid with a big head. it was then, when i realized, that it's the thing i want above all other things - to look like that, like a comic book hero or even more. what i did not realize then, that i was looking at mr. Dorian Yates on muscle magazine cover :) 30 years later i'm still on this path. never gonna look like mr. After school i worked heavy jobs and at 19 reconnected with an old school friend who had started bodybuilding. We started training together and i realised that i was actually naturally pretty strong and it progressed from there. I never wanted to diet for shows i just wanted to be big. I did follow bodybuilding though and seeing guys like Nasser, Markus Rhul and Lee Priest who were my favourite physiques at the time was crazy. I did the Highland Games for a couple of years and though i was strong by then i was always too short at 5ft10 against guys well over 6ft. I’ve always tried to stay active out of HS. I wrestled and played football. I bought weight machine back then and a bunch free weights. I’m 56 now and still have all that stuff with me. I’ve moved it with me wherever I go. Just replace cables and add more attachments over the years. I have knee issues and shoulder problems but always been told build the muscle around the problems and I should be fine. For the most part it’s work. Playing all the rec sports I can, floor hockey (because I can skate well) softball for as long as my body will let me. So about 7yrs ago I found a boxing gym. What a workout (love it) 3days a week there with lifting on off days. Nothing extremely heavy. Just to keep my shit tight. With the equipment they have and what I have at home. I have a good foundation to work with. I am really inspired by the way you explain how to find your muscles (isolate it) and you like you say “push though it” I’m in the best shape in life. I’m not trying to become a body builder per say or become a active boxer. (Although I did find a 50+ novice weight class at a local tournament that has peaked my interest,) with a little help from my trainers at the gym. A one and done scenario may maybe in my future. All I know is. I feel great and my clothes fit great and I can still have a few beers on the weekend with the boys. But back to the boxing/weights come Monday. Thanks for showing me the light on the more efficient way of lifting. Keep the great content coming. 👊🏼

Mom, 34 years old. Was tired of feeling like crap in my skin. Wanted to be in shape, for real and wanted to shed fat. I knew there wouldn't be a 1000 ways to do it, so I took my ass off the couch and started working out and ditching crap food. It's been 2 years, I'm in a best shape now than before I had my 2 daughters. I am also in a better shape mentally, and will never stop working out. ✌🏻

I became an alcoholic after football didn't work and gained alot of weight and lost all motivation. Until actually looking at myself and telling myself you're better then this. I had to start back at the bottom and work my way back up. Took me seven months of hard weight training to get back into and I still need alot more to learn. This is why I pay close attention to your videos and apply them to the gym. So thank you.

Hi Mike, the reason I started training was that I was very thin and tall I wanted to look big. and I was a little mocked when I was a little boy. I trained professional cycling for 2 years. Right now the people around me are complimenting me, they think I'm taking something, no, I just love to eat and I understand what it's like to train as a bodybuilder thanks to you Mike thank you Mike for the useful videos it's an honor for me. Respect :)))))))))

Never did well in the classroom but always happier lifting weights because it was all on me. Top that with being bullied I figured if I got big enough they'd stop F#cking with me. Motivations changed over the years but my love for building muscle hasn't changed.

In my late 20’s I idolized the 90’s bodybuilders. Dorian Yates, Nasser El Sonbaty, Kevin Levrone, Lee Priest. Spent my time on the gear kick and tore my rotator cuff. That injury killed my motivation for a few years. Now I’m 55 and smarter, natural and almost as big as I was geared up in my early forties. Go figure. Thanks for all the great content Mike. I look forward to your videoes.

Age 10 I loved to see the cartoons like He-man and the turtles. I started training at home. In my late teens I was a world champion in powerlifting. Then moved to America for school and competed in BBing. About to turn 36 after many surgeries and injuries. Your style of training is something I have come to over past few years so your videos are greatly enjoyed.

From 30 to 50 years old, going to the gym was for stress reduction (work related) and to maintain physical stamina. I did a lot of aerobics and didn't much care about my weight, which was average for my height. 55 came around and health issues surfaced: Diet became more of a focus. Low carb, IF, keto and exercise (weights only, I stopped doing aerobics) solved a lot of health issues (high cholesterol, high glucose, inflamation, eye problens, etc.). Suddenly I became "lean" then "shredded"... I felt better, I looked better and frankly I was amazed! Even now at 60 years old, channels like yours inspire me to build on my foundation, stay the course, learn more about technique and avoid injury. Great channel Mike and appreciate your forthright manner.

At 51 years young, and I stood up one day and saw my body flabby and being tired. Decided I wanted to be fit enough to play with my grandkids, so I started researching and watching videos, lost about 45 pounds of fat, and gained a bit of muscle over the last year. Happy with that, I am now having a blast getting healthier than I ever have been, and am seeing great results thanks to Mike and a couple other content creators.

Batista vs Bobby Lashley on first SmackDown that I saw. Went to the garage, took grandfather's dumbbells and did bicep curls. Trained since I was 5, this switch to bodybuilding was at 15. All those reasons are long gone, now I simply train, because it's what I love to do.

Living away from my parents at the age of 16 years old, weightlifting was my only outlet for anger, stress, and bad feelings I had toward my situation. As I got older i always consistently worked out but In 2016 I was diagnosed with diabetes and stepped up my working out and lifestyle changed completely. My diabetes numbers are now the best they have ever been ! And no longer on my meds for the past 4 years. Mike ur style training I have adopted to a “T”, thanks for all that u do. U are having a big impact on peoples lives ! 🙏🏽💪🏽

I used to slam hammers heavy ones on tyre( 400lbs) for 30 min straight . Lift tyre and flip the whole thing . Most guys couldn't slide it and they used to call me . People used to say u are removing your anger frustration on it. They used to say hit harder. Later I used to do 1 hand hammer slams. 🔨 🤣🤣

Never played sports as a kid but started playing softball when I was 19 on a work team. Found I really enjoyed it and realized if I was stronger I could hit harder. That started me getting in the gym. Once there I loved it. Ended up with a workout partner who was into body building so that started me paying attention to that. I didn't have the genetics for the competition but I enjoyed the process of getting bigger and stronger and hit a growth spurt between 20 and 21 which helped. Now at 52, I still play competitive tournament softball and still hit the gym 3-5 days a week to stay in shape and reap the benefits for my health.

About three years ago, I had surgery on my right wrist (TFCC), because it got to the point where every time I would supinate my wrist for almost anything, I would feel excruciating pain to the point where it was almost numbing. After three months of recovery and physical therapy, I gained weight and lost so much of what little figure I had since I was not able to do sweat with my wrap/sling on or use it to lift anything over 5 pounds. I told myself that I would never take for granted the opportunities and days that I am able to train and lift in the gym. I am definitely by no means a bodybuilder nor do I have intentions to be one but putting on muscle and mass is one of the few things that I have somewhat control over. I’ve been learning so much about your style of lifting and moving weights, that I have not only noticed but more importantly felt a huge difference. So I thank you for that! Huge fan over here 👍🏽

I lift weights because I regret not finding out my genetic potential when I was younger. I squandered my youth on hard-core drugs and alcohol. I'm 45 years old now and have been training for the 2 years that I've been sober. I'm going to find out what I can accomplish physically before I die. I'm going to put in the 10 years of dedication to weight lifting and see where it takes me. I appreciate your straightforward content.

I am old school too! WWF kinda inspired me, Hercules was the guy. He was my favorite but also what started me working harder in the gym back then. I too had already started working out thanks to HS football. Working in a health club back then just put me in the environment at the right time. Now I just workout to stay fit and strong as a 50 year old. Your videos bring a new found motivation to my workouts. Big thanks Mike!

What got me wanting to get "serious" about working out was wanting to get more fit and healthy after I dropped an insane amount of weight from a crockpot of medications I was on growing up. My first taste of working out was at 18, but I really didn't start till' I was about 22 or 23 (I'm 27, going on 28 now). But what turned a casual activity into lifelong passion for me was when I was first came across John Meadow's content. My initial impression of what he taught was, keep the body healthy and longer lasting, while pushing yourself to your absolute limits. And I loved that. For the next couple or so years, I don't think a day went by when I didn't invest an X amount of time on studying up on excersises, learning proper form, dieting, nutrition, and so many of the other variables that go into bodybuilding/training. Everything about the lifestyle I just love so much. From getting into the gym and pushing myself every session, finding new techniques or finding new ways to improve my form for my body or tweaks to better that mind muscle connection, and the eating aspect to achieve my goals, I love every F*cking bit of it. You and some of the guys over at Pure Muscle have also been a tremendous help for me to continue to learn more and improve my training. Keep up the great work big man, and thank you for all the great content and knowledge you've shared with everyone!

I started lifting in Jr high and high school because my mom worked out. I started lifting a bit more seriously in the Army but still didn't really have an idea what I was doing. Now, as a civilian and aware of this social media world, I lift because I want to gain muscle and strength. I know more and I look back at what I used to do and shake my head a little and smile. I'm still an amateur and am always learning.

They are here now and I have made some great gains since following you. I’m 53 and in the best shape of my life. I use Creatine but no steroids. TRT is really good but the cost back then when I used it was prohibitive. Haven’t looked into it since. But thanks for making these videos Mike. I just work out to look better now. Best training on the internet.

Hey Mike, the reason I got more serious about pumping iron was the birth of my son. I will not allow the birth of my son to be an argument for anything negative in my life. The birth of my son is an argument for positive things only and I will not allow anybody and especially not myself to use it in a negative way. Therefore the motto is: I must workout daily fof my son. And I have to make it possible for him. It‘s not a really a functional or apparel goal. Being somewhat strong, being somewhat fit and doing it fof my sone is the reason.

Got a trainer 2 days a week plus hard cardio and over a 6 month period started to going from feeling the results but to start really seeing the results that I didn’t think I would ever see on myself.
