The most important thing with shirts is the following: there is essentially no need to pay more than 100 bucks for an OTR shirt, as it is highly unlikely it will fit perfectly. For 100-150 you can get really nice Made to Measure shirts. I would definitely not pay 200 bucks for an OTR shirt unless it was Isaia, Finamore, etc. I think that its much easier in Europe to find quality tailors because in Europe (UK, Italy, Germany and Austria) we have a much stronger tailoring tradition and men are much more conscious about how their clothes fit. I work in a 5 star superior hotel and whenever we have gala events or exclusive conferences, the European ceos, executives are always dressed immaculately and the US colleagues unfortunately always look like they haven't bought new suits since the 80s. There are exceptions to rule of course but I'd say 80% of the time its true. Its nothing against America, but I think that style (not fashion) is much more engrained with us across the pond. Love your channel though. Seem like an earnest kid and have a great sense of style. Keep it up!
@miketheman43415 жыл бұрын
Meaning that you don’t understand demographics. Hint business men are hardly a metric for the fashion tastes of a society. Business men in Europe come from a very different environment than Americans who come from the WASP tradition. Per Capita well off Americans are far more likely to own nice things compared with Europeans. Just see how much of topic brands are sold in America vs Europe at each income point.

stefano giovannini What part is unclear? The research is clear as to who buys designer wear. It’s American more than others. They buy more per capita than Europeans. Meaning that the statement is nonsense on its face. European designers consider Americans their most important customers.
@miketheman43415 жыл бұрын
stefano giovannini BTW can you try that again but this time in English? Proper English grammar!
@stefpix5 жыл бұрын
@@miketheman4341 I am not sure what part of my reply shows poor English grammar, just what you did write is not clearly expressed. From what environment do European businessmen come compared to American WASPs? Anyway not all US businessmen are of WASP heritage. The original poster is referring to business attire style, so why wouldn't American and European businessmen CEOs etc be a valid metric?

I am 5' 11", 175lbs, and I got a 16" neck, 34" sleeves, and its like they made it for me. The fit is insanely great and the material is so soft. I only paid $39.99 and is the best bargain I've ever found on a shirt. I went back and picked up 2 more and I tried to go to other Marshalls to see if there were more, but only the store by me had them. Now I am always looking for them (at a cheap bargain price that is :>)))

Great video, very helpful, thanks so much! I tend to buy my dress shirts (and slacks) from Dillard's. I typically buy their hart schaffner marx brand, which is probably rebranded, but recently bought a Hugo Boss shirt, which feels and fits fantastic. That shirt and a new job have me looking and considering the finer points of a dress shirt and looking beyond the mall. Regarding Bonobos, about 6 months ago, based on reviews of suit makers, I bought a couple of Bonobos suits. Got fitted in the store and received them within a couple of days at my home. The suits just did not sit well on me. They were some bad combination of baggy and saggy. I returned one of them and ordered one of their higher line suits in the hope that a higher grade material would help, but it fit the same, so I returned both. I subsequently researched Bonobos and it seems the original owners sold out, new owners are probably not using the same suppliers and tailors? Maybe the shirts are different, but I would rather try some of you other recommendations, before buying again.

Just found out Charles Tyrwhitt no longer sells “super slim”. Looks like I’ll stick with Bonobos, who make excellent shirts and have amazing customer service. You may not think customer service means much until you get your shirts tailored and they don’t look right. This happened to me and Bonobos went above and beyond and sent me new shirts. Tie Bar is really great too.

I know this is an older video, but I wanted to chime in. I sell men's clothing for a living. I sell custom suitings and shirtings in fact. In my opinion, Charles Tyrwhitt shirts are some of the best shirts I've purchased. They are surpass some of the custom shiritings I've seen and sold. I know a thing or two about quality garments but I also know that what one deems as quality isn't always agreed upon by others or the masses. I am surprised that you reviewed CT so negatively. I don't mean to come across as critical of you or of your opinion at all. I highly value your opinion. Full disclosure, I haven't purchased from all the other companies you've reviewed just yet, but I just wanted to chime in for a moment. Also, you and I have different builds which could contribute to our differing opinions. I am a 17 1/2 35 at 5'8. Nevertheless, I appreciate what you do and will continue to watch all your content here. Cheers!

Hey Lucas...I have about 5 BB dress shirts (all button down collars). I like BB because they have like 3 or 4 varieties fit and you can get the exact sleeve length (I wear 16 1/2 x 35). If you go to the outlets they usually have "unusual colors/prints-not so desirable" and the 34/35 sleeve length (which is a bit sort for me). I like the exact sleeve length. They are the "no iron" variety (which I press off anyway). You can usually fids a sale a few times a year. However, I really do not know what is going on with the "pandemic impact" and the supposed "bankruptcy". They have "casual dress shirts" there like the Oxford cotton (usually in like s/m/l) and if you are lucky one of these sizes will fit. I would recommend BB, especially on sale. I think they are reasonably good quality (for today's manufactiuring, etc.) and reasonably priced (especially during sale. Note too, Dillards usually have 1/2 price sales (for sure around 1st of year) on dress clothes including the "Gold Label" line of shirts. I would recommend both of these. I don't know if I would spend more on a 'dress/dress casual shirt" than these. I would like to try an Eton or Kamakura sometime but with the lockdown, there is really nowhere special to get dressed up for. I hope this helps.

LOL people will say what they want , but to me a good dress shirt always starts with the collar, and then a good high arm eye, so you have good movement without the shirt moving everywhere. I know most will say "Oh those are cheap", but I have always liked Van Heusen dress shirts, because the have great collars that don't go limp throughout the day, and they have nice cuffs. Bonus for me most fit perfect off the rack, sometimes a rare occurrence I have to get one altered only because I really like the shirts. That being said Calvin Klein makes some great dress shirts as well. Sidenote: LOL I'm not talking about the one you can get at Walmart. LMAO totally different then those. Just one man's opinion. By the looks of your shirts, it looks like you should get some back darts to help remove excess material on your back. Love your content, though.

Hi Jon, One aspect important to me in choosing dress shirts is ease of care. Frankly, I'm too lazy to go to the cleaners every week so I need a shirt that is going to hold up to the rigors of home washing and drying and then be easy to iron after. I know taking shirts to the cleaner is probably best for the shirt, but what your recommendation be based on ease of care and durability?

+Ryan Kayrell wool and prince, mizzen and main so far. DeoVeritas just launched bamboo shirting which is natural fabric with all of the characteristics of performance apparel but I'll be sure to include this in followup ;-)

new subscriber, just bought a couple Twillory shirts, already own a couple wool&prince & stannt shirts, I'm pretty sure I backed both of those companies on Kickstarter - thanks for a good round up review

I find the quality of Ledbury shirts to be very uneven. Some are good, others are not worth 30 bucks. You should try it on first.

Great channel. Any idea where I find casual shirts with nicer buttons? I am not able to find that in the US.

Great reviews. Had a question on a shirt not covered in video. I absolutely love bonobos and is my top choice at current time, but was curious how the Joseph A. Bank slim fit travelers series is overall? Have been considering purchasing such but wanted to inquire first about such

Btw, I use to buy banana republic and J crew and I am not impressed anymore with the new companies rising like the Tie Bar. I've been meaning to try Bonobos. Great video my man 👍🏻

Good information, but dude.... almost 5 minutes to start the content.... you talk to much for introduction, you loose attention from viewers... try to fix that
