Had been looking on ebay for 64 Kennedy halfs, but took your advice and stopped in a coin shop in town today. Told them what I was doing and the lady pulled out a huge bag of 64's and walking liberty halfs. I was surprised at the condition of a lot of the 64 Kennedys....ended up buying 20 in what I consider excellent shape for $7 each and also picked up a few walking liberty's to practice with. Lot better price that what I have been seeing on ebay. She also sold me 4 mint collections of 2004 and 2005 (90% silver) state quarters for the melt price. So, all in all, a good day picking up some silver at a good price -- at least considering what I would pay on ebay for the same coins. Have made lots of clad quarter rings for practice...now going to try my hand with the silver. Thanks for the tip on where to pick up these coins.

Thank you for all your videos. They're great. I love the rings but I was wondering how coin dealers typically react to you making rings out of collectible coins.
@CoinRingsfromTheMint8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have never had any of them be upset. It is always the opposite. I have noticed that the people who get upset tend not to really understand the coin market completely. Real collectors don't get upset about numismatically insignificant coins being repurposed.

Funny way I found to store Quarters is using the Mini M&M tubes. Quarters fit great in the tubes and you can get the large or small tube as well.

When i was vacationing in florida, i was trying to get quarters from a pop machine by putting in a dollar bill and hitting coin return to use in a payphone but it kept dispensing gold dollars instead

hi...i having problems to fold mexican 1960 un peso .100 silver coins, they crack at fist folding attempt when i heat the coin and quench on water is worst they crack faster....any tip for those?....thanks great videos
@CoinRingsfromTheMint6 жыл бұрын
+ismundo campos Those coins are terrible to use. I would go for the older .720 silver coins and avoid using the .1 silver ones. They always split

Love your work and your videos! If you don’t mind me asking, how do you figure out the size of the ring? It’s that decided upon the punching of the center hole? Thanks for your time, keep up the great work!
@CoinRingsfromTheMint3 жыл бұрын
It actually has no relation to the hole size. It all is decided by how much you stretch and reduce it.
@BigMan4Fun9 жыл бұрын
What sizes can you make with a 1962 silver quarter? Can you make a ring out of a 1oz gold coin?
@CoinRingsfromTheMint9 жыл бұрын
I can do size 5-9 with a silver quarter. I can make gold coins but don't really like to. Jason's Works does them though I think.

Just watched a couple of your videos my wife is looking at getting into some of this we’re from Salem and heard you say your from the area as well do you think this market is over saturated or is there still some room if she were to use some creative ideas to make her work stand out I understand that’s a strange question but just wanted make sure she wasn’t going into something that’s over done already thank you for your time

There is definitely plenty of room. The key us doing markets and events. Online is flooded but those Saturday markets and Bazaars are wide open. I used to make a living doing them. I do all my sales online now but many friends make a living off coin rings at shows.

Hey great video I live in Canada and was wanting to do the same thing for wedding bands with 2009 coins, I'm won seeing if you could suggest some nice coins for that year to use
@CoinRingsfromTheMint8 жыл бұрын
My brother was married in 2009 and I made them a set from a Barber quarter and half dollar from 1909. 100 years before which is neat and 90% silver which is a plus.

hi...like always great videos....i buy a 1oz .999 silver morgan dollar style coin at ebay $16 do you make a ring from this coin? any tip?
@CoinRingsfromTheMint7 жыл бұрын
+ismundo campos I have but they are a bit more tricky to make. The key with .999 silver is to lightly anneal it. If you anneal it too much the surface gets rippled.
@yaakapa9 жыл бұрын
How about using proofs for making rings? Does the annealing process affect the coin?
@CoinRingsfromTheMint9 жыл бұрын
That is a great question that I forgot to mention. I have used silver proofs and clad quarter proofs with no problem. But I have always had trouble with proof clad halves. The copper nickel outer layer always splits, almost every time. I never use proof clad halves.

Is there a way to make a double sided coin ring with simple tools? By simple I mean a hammer..
@CoinRingsfromTheMint9 жыл бұрын
Yes there is! I just Co authored s book and how to video showing the techniques I started with. It was basically a mallet and mandrel for speciality tools. Here is the link to the book: www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZGEWTCC/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_awdm_5KEEvb02QFCW2

A little confused. What's a low quality coin? Is silver better than cheap newer metal? Thanks for responding.
@CoinRingsfromTheMint6 жыл бұрын
+LostInMySpace Low quality meaning a worm out coin
@3DEditor5 жыл бұрын
I sure hope you quadruple check each coin you turn into a ring, to make 100% certain you're not destroying a rare error coin or any silver coin worth over $100 circulated sell value from any given year.

Hey man. In the UK many of the modern coins contain high amounts of nickel. I've recently read that this is poisonous. I get that people can have a skin reaction but are they actually dangerous to wear? Just wondering if you had any knowledge of this. Thanks, love your videos! Chris
@CoinRingsfromTheMint6 жыл бұрын
+Willanski no it's not dangerous to wear. The articles I've seen about it ate the fumes from molten nickel. I was concerned when I first started making them but they are good to go from everything I've read.

Coin Rings from The Mint - Change You Can Wear ok great thanks 👍🏻
@willanski43216 жыл бұрын
Coin Rings from The Mint - Change You Can Wear just found out a few of the previously nickel coins have been replaced with steel. Is that a complete no no now. It's difficult to obtain (and super expensive) the more specialist tools for coin making in the UK - the tools you mentioned can be damaged. I was planning on folding over a mandrel using a nylon hammer. Could I still do that with a steel coin? Basically I want to practice with pocket change before I buy some higher value coins online! If so, can you still anneal to soften? Sorry for the waffle - it's late here haha 😂
@CoinRingsfromTheMint6 жыл бұрын
Willanski Steel is no good! I'm sure steel is possible but it is not really a good idea at all. I would stick with older pennies and half pennies just to get your process down. They are the most forgiving UK coins. Once you get those down, you can try some old 2 shillings and half crowns pretty inexpensively.

Coin Rings from The Mint - Change You Can Wear Usually there's at least one or two coin dealers who set up at a flea market. Most flea markets are open only on weekends but there's a LOT of people visiting them.
