I went to Fort Jackson back in summer of 2003. We had co-ed training and despite the nickname, it wasn’t “relaxing.” If you’re some PT stud, it can come off as “easier” but it was still no vacation. It’s army basic training not summer camp.
@yukisanscorner35823 жыл бұрын
I feel ya there bro. I went in summer of 2018, and to this day, just as you, I STILL call BS on the whole “Relaxin Jackson” thing. Only reason why they call it that is the DSs give you so many chances to pass everything, including the PT test, until they damn near lose their patience with you
@aegisofhonor3 жыл бұрын
"relaxin' Jackson got it's name back in the 1980s or earlier when there was a pretty significant difference between the overall difficulty of basic training between the "hard" ones like Fort Benning or Fort Knox and Fort Jackson. Back then, it was all male at both Benning and Knox and the training was TOUGH, because they needed you to be tough for those combat and armored MOSs where as Fort Jackson was mainly for POG MOSs so the training did not have to be as "tough". This has changed completely since then and the overall experience at all basic training locations is essentially the same across the board with only minor difference between them, mostly in rules and minor tweaks to the training.
@legoworksstudios13 жыл бұрын
I think the Relaxin Jackson days are long gone. I was there in August and I was one of three trainees who had to leave because we were developing stress fractures on our hips, making morning PT even harder than it should've been. I still wanna go back and try again, and I know the other trainees will be back after six months.

I'm a throwback... basic and AIT at Fort Dix (88M) in 1985, and I'm still in touch with a good buddy who went through it with me. He and I also ended up getting sent to the same unit in Germany (West Germany at the time) right after AIT. In fact, a bunch of us who were stationed in Germany together have reconnected through Facebook and have a battalion page. Those were the best of times. USAEUR is a shell of what it used to be. Back then, due to the Cold War, there were around 300,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in Europe... mostly Army (and Air Force) and mostly in West Germany. Now, I hear that number is less than 90,000. In fact, every base I was ever assigned to (Fort Dix, Azbill Barracks in Germany, and Fort Monmouth) is now closed due to D.O.D. downsizing. But, the memories last a lifetime.
