I find it interesting that the tune "Dixie" was played by Ace Levy - Jake Busey- on the neon fiddle in the R&R scene, and everyone was dancing and getting along just fine. Shows that the South and its military traditions (and even its accent) will still be alive and respected in what most folks take to be the 23rd Century. In the book, I believe there was a scene where the suited-up MI were on a long march across the arctic tundra and a trooper dropped out to play the bagpipes to keep spirits up. A nod to the military traditions of the Scots.

How did this video fail to mention Dean Norris? Who was in Total Recall (the original) and Breaking Bad, among others.
@hal900x9 жыл бұрын
This doesn't even scratch the careers of NPH and the ubiquitous Michael Ironsides. Michael has played the villain in...well, just about every B movie ever made. He is one of the most employed actors in America. I think Starship Troopers was one of the only movies were he wasn't a straight up villain, more of an anti-hero, it was his best role IMO.

Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy is a real-time tactics video game developed by Blue Tongue Entertainment and published by Microprose on October 28, 2000. Published before the FPS shooter.

Who knew Neil Patrick Harris would be the most successful actor of them all?

I don't mean to alarm anyone but have any of you also noticed that a disproportionately high number of the actors and actresses in these videos have appeared in many tv shows, tv-movies, films, and sometimes have done voice work. It's just spooky and very suspicious.

Most of these actors/actresses are washed up. Neil Patrick Harris is the most successful of the bunch it seems, and Dean Norris had a pretty good run with Breaking Bad.
@gav240z9 жыл бұрын
It all depends on how you define success. It seems to you that means being an A-List actor, but many of these people have done other amazing things outside of acting and to me they all seem to have been incredibly successful in other pursuits. I'd be grateful to have achieved half the things many of them have done.

@5:12 That's incorrect. The source of the line "Come on you apes, you want to live forever?" is actually credited to an unknown US sergeant in the invasion of Normandy France during Operation Overlord ("D-Day") according to the novel itself.

The bowie song refers to the death of the 20th century not the 21st as it was released in 1995.
@gav240z9 жыл бұрын
I always loved that song, took me ages to find it years ago (before Google was the way to find this stuff) later I discovered it was a Bowie cover/song. Zoe who performed the song was the daughter of Basil who did the score for the film and many other films including Robocop.

5:12 It's fake. The sentence "Come on you apes! You wanna live forever?" was said by Dan Daly, a great U.S. Marine in WWI.
They really should remake this movie, I'm not saying it would be any better, just probably look better. This movie has a lot of similarities to "All Quiet On the Western Front."
@riploljustforfu99297 жыл бұрын
g1015m The special effects still look pretty good. I don't see why it needs a remake. And what similarities does it got to 'All Quiet on the Western front' except the message 'War is not as awesome as you think.' and we follow the main character's way from beeing a student to beeing a soldier fighting in war. (correct me if I'm wrong? I wouldn't consider 2 similarities 'a lot'.
@g1015m7 жыл бұрын
+Riplol Justforfu the interactions between the infantry soldiers (especially during training), the fact that a lot of that training class get killed very quickly, and the treatment of the training nco in both movies is what I was referring to. Hollwood had already remade other sci-fi/fantasy movies, why not this one?
@riploljustforfu99297 жыл бұрын
g1015m Okay, for the similarities: fair enough But the questio wether to remake a movie shouldn't be 'Why not?', IT should be 'Why?'. The movie still holds against today's standarts. There is simply no need for a remake. The only thing I could imagine is a reboot where they focus more on the book instead of making it loosely based on it (not saying that the movie bad because it's not close to the book).
@g1015m7 жыл бұрын
+Riplol Justforfu Reboot or remake would still be pretty cool

@vandpubsell10 жыл бұрын
Oh its brilliantly put together, but its a corruption of the book. A deliberate corruption too, which is a terrible thing to do.
@TitanFind10 жыл бұрын
Deliberate corruption? Absolutely. Terrible thing to do? No. Terrible movie? No. I love the book, but I also love the movie as a kind of flip-side companion piece. It would be cool to see a faithful adaptation, though, for sure, with all the proper power-armour stuff.
@vandpubsell10 жыл бұрын
TitanFind Starship troopers is a book with a very definite social and political agenda. In fact, that is its primary weakness. Heinlein became far too "preachy" in his later works. Now, it doesnt matter whether you agree with Heinlein's take or not - he still has a right to say it. If some clever movie maker comes along and makes a movie using much the same plot, characters and situation, but whose "message" is the exact opposite of what Heinlein intended, that is a very wretched thing to do. That is a perversion of his work. Its like doing a remake of "All quiet on the western front" as a gung-ho John Wayne style action movie. It just simply is not right to do something like that. If the moviemakers do not agree with Heinlein, then they should have made an adaption of something like "The forever war", a book specifically written to counter Heinleins arguments. But of course, Heinleins book is better known and loved, and therefore they make more money adapting it. I dont want to support that kind of thing. No.
