The CGI was used here pretty good for the time. There is a noticeable difference when a film is treating it like a tool as opposed to a crutch.

As another commenter touched on, it seems like there was a little more artistry in the special effects of that time. Now, I think it's just so easy to get 90% of the way there with much less work that they just take the lazy route so much of the time. Even from what I've seen of the new Jurassic Wold movie in the trailers, despite looking visually stunning, there's a lack of authenticity that still makes it look a little animated.

I find it hilarious how the cameraman doesn’t fear death as all he cares about is the shot for the camera. When he’s still filming his reporter being eaten alive I can’t help but die of laughter 😂

I think it's a way of showing how little the people in charge of this society, and by extension, the media, actually care about the lives of the people they're sending into war. You see images of horrifically mutilated bodies throughout the media reports in the film and it's done to try and desensitise the average civilian to violence and make going to war not seem as bad as it is. I realise I got a bit over-analytical. It is funny in a dark way but it definitely fits in with the satirical tone of the film.

the cameraman is basically like all of us annoyed by the fact that even when the military itself warns the media, they're still stubborn and disobey just for the sake of getting their "stories" to compete against other media. the cameraman basically got tired of this shit and was like "yeah, u want coverage? here's your fucking coverage! yeah..how do u like your coverage now!"

Never have I seen such an amazing sci-fi/war movie like this before. @Gzus Kreist The Skinnys weren't actually Bugs but rather an entirely separate and unique species that (at some unspecified time in their history) had reached an 'accord' withe Bugs which meant they were never attacked by them. As I recall it is implied in the book that when the war started the Skinny's (who were sort of sandwiched between both expanding expires) provided intel on humanity and other unspecified support to the Bugs. Hence the attacks on their cities by the mobile infantry which were designed the convince the bugs of the need to change sides. They did..

The sequels weren't anywhere near the level of satire, either to heavy handed for the live action films, lacking the subtlety that suckered in right wing pollies into wanting to copy the style of the infilm newsreels for political adds. Or no satire and all death or glory in the animated films.

Imo both the book and the movie (only the original Verhoeven film) are great and while i think that in the book, the aliens (there were not only bugs), the MI equipment (heavily armed "power-armor-suits" which outclass armored vehicles like tanks with ease) and the whole philosophical backround of the federation were neat, the changes in the movie made sense, as you simply dont have the time to establish such fancy concepts.

Mr Popanz I like both as well, but the problem with the movie was that the director made those changes because he believed that the book was about patriotism and extreme fascist, and that war was a good and necessary thing. So in a way to decry the book he made it so that the Federation was practically Neo-Nazi Germany in propaganda, fashion, and iconography taken to the extreme. He completely misunderstood that the main theme of the book was about responsibility. The more power you gain, the more responsibility you have to shoulder when you use said power especially if you made a mistake. And one of the highest powers you can gain is the ability to vote.

I always found the concept that literally ingesting brain matter allowed the brain bug to absorb knowledge a bit far fetched in light of more plausible means. The moment the brain has been dismembered or otherwise damaged, the neurons within would cease firing and so everything that makes a person, especially their knowledge and memories would be lost. It would have made more sense for the brain bug to either remove the entire brain intact by grafting to the back of their victims' head and spine, forging new connections to essentially transfer all life support function from the host body's to its own, and then extracting it to serve as part of a collective hive within its own body, building its own brain up as it consumes others. But the if it went as far as grafting to the hosts brain, it could simply use its powerful telepathic abilities to read and absorb all of the victim' knowledge and memories and simply retain it all in its own brain much like extracting form a flash drive and thus would not actually need to consume the physical brain matter.

@@GovGenMarcusKerensky The message of Starship troopers is actually in strong support of militarism, not against. It doesn't glorify warfare, but it does establish the case to the necessity of warfare and the nativity of policy makers and the general public who cannot stomach the thought of realizing what combat entails, but still believe they have educated opinions on the matter. Part of what made Starship Troopers timeless is that the book parodies its critics within the text, and then IRL critics came out and embodied that satire perfectly, often unwittingly.

the movie was great but unfortunately it was a bit too far from the original novel where the Arachnids were much more badass. The soldiers were using bioweapons to shoot the humans and eveything. Also the mobile infantry in the movie a joke, in the book it is the pinnacle of human soldiers, equiped with power armors and jumping around on the battlefield (hence mobile infantry) and shooting nuclear rockets around.
