I have a question Professor: I have bought at least three colors of Matte Dragon Shield sleeves, and all were not completely opaque without the smoky sleeves. Is there a Matte DS sleeve color that is COMPLETELY opaque without smoky inner sleeves?

hey prof. ive been watching your sleeve videos for a very long time and i have to say the only problem i have is that for me personally i have sweaty hands so any glossy backs get dirty fast and lose thier shuffle feel so many top sleeves are glossy and the matte backs that i do like are usually low grades or i dont like the colour of it. i have to say i would love to see what the top sleeves are like in a quarterly and half a year timeline to see how well they live up in a regular everyday environment, i know this is A LOT of work but its something ive been curious about for some time now keep up the excellent work

Hey prof, Do you happen to know if KMC has said they are going to return their hyper mat back to their former quality? i can't seem to find anything on it anywhere except everyone almost unanimously agreeing that they have slipped within the last 2-3 years.

I love Dragonshields as a Commander player too. One box, one deck. Plenty of colors to customize and differentiate my decks. Durable, and usually come with a few extra sleeves anyway just in case. Just the perfect product for Commander.

I've had my dragon shields for many years, and I've compared and contrasted them to a vast quantity of competitors. These sleeves have held up profoundly better than any others. I'd say my Dragon Shield Matte Black sleeves are by far my favorites when it comes to performance and aesthetics.

I'd like to thank Ultra Pro for trying to make a more quality sleeve the likes of the (old) KMC Hypermattes and the Dragonshields. I really hope they can make that final step to a really solid sleeve. I started out with them before upgrading to the Hypermattes about 3 years ago, and I'd like to see them improve. Thanks again for the great video Prof!

I'd love to see it too. But am I the only that notices lately UP has the UP label only half stamped? It's on very sleeve in every size so I would like to know if it's intentional, because I personally find it quite ugly, just have it there or take it off.

I'm glad to see that Arcane tinmen are doing their best to recreate the original series of Dragonshields as best as they can, I'm glad to see that what they have made is of an acceptable level of quality to what they originally provided, as personally I just do not care for the Matte Sleeves. I've use the old school Dragonshields since I started playing magic, and some of my decks that use Dragonshields from upwards of 10 years ago are still in use today by me. Dragonshield is my go to sleeve period, and the fact that the manufactures are willing to do the best they can to keep the product I have known for years alive and well speaks volume about the company. Arcane Tinmen you've outdone yourselves and definitely earned a customer for life. Thanks for the video prof, you're becoming my go to source for product these days. Deckboxes, sleeves, you've turned me onto a number of products, and well as kept me from spending money on items I might have if not for your warnings. So...really thank you. keep it up, I'll be tuning in for a very long time.

From a viewer's perspective, transferring to KZbin as a full time job, no matter the circumstance that caused it, has been the best thing to happen to this channel. I can already hear and see a bit more confidence and casualness in you. Now that you can spend more energy and time on your videos, I expected a jump in quality, not the flight that I am seeing now. You thank us every day for supporting you in whatever ways we do, but I want to thank YOU, Professor, for making such amazing content every single day that we, the viewers, can enjoy for free. You never had to start this KZbin channel in the first place, but you did and we are as grateful for it every day as you are for us. Again, thank you so much.

I'm a casual player mostly and I tend to have to leave my Commander deck on my desk for weeks at a time. So I'm glad I finally have someone's opinion on Dragon Shield's sleeves. I use the glossy gold ones myself and I've only had a little marking on the edges but I attribute that to my ham-handed shuffling of a 99 card deck with small hands. The sticking is an issue though because I end up with a very clumped up deck I have to keep stack shuffling every 3rd game or so. Long story short, I'm glad my store owner recommended them to me, I'll probably stick with them for my commander decks for now since they at least come in 100 packs. Thanks for the review, Professor.

Quick tip. When "mash" shuffling, I find that you only need to lightly interlace the edges of the sleeves, before loosening your grip on the bottom pile, and gently dropping the top pile in front to back. this reduces friction, and makes my sleeves last twice as long without splits. The friction of shoving two piles together pushes on two corners, and pulls at the other two, weakening them. This is why letting them gently drop into place reduces the stress they take. Of course, make sure you do it at a slight sideways angle at which you and your opponent can't see the card faces as they glide in. (I find this method improves the shuffle feel of bad sticky glossy sleeves, and makes good double matte sleeves feel like a dream. Not recommended for 80-100 card decks though, they're too bulky for this method)

I have been using Dragon shield since watching your videos and I agree they are great "so thank you." Having said that I wish they made them with designs rather than just solid colors alone. More importantly I wish they had a window on the box to see the true color of the sleeves. I was looking for a particular color and purchased a few wrong colors in hopes they would be "close enough" but they weren't. Thanks for the great content Prof.

First off, love your content and thank you for your service! I think it would be nice that before grading products you should make a list of best case scenario and worst case scenario. Where you have all the possible things that would be in the pro's and all possible in the con's such as (for sleeves): Durability, color variations & illustration options, opacity, price per unit, Shuffle Feel, susceptibility to unintentional marking, etc... Then give kind of a quick checklist style rundown (maybe with A, B, C grades on each then an overall grade) instead of highlighting on the stand out points.

One point I wish you'd speak to more when reviewing sleeves is the tolerance or manufacturing accuracy. I tend to find Japanese sleeves all very alike/identical, and so the deck sits neatly together, whereas Ultra Pros and Dragonshields are more prone to have variations in height/width or some sleeves have burred edges, for example. Great content BTW, know I know not to buy the Silky KMCs. Thanks!

Hey Professor, I recently stumbled upon your channel through related videos on alpha investments, (stumbled upon him from a related video on advice for sim racing games, and that from learning about expensive watches, I forget how I got there, arn't tangents neat? :D) To be honest, I am not interested in magic the gathering, mostly because of time constraints and other interests, but I do know a good and passionate youtube channel when I see one.(I count Rudy from alpha investments as one as well) I love seeing your product reviews (even though I don't exactly intend to buy, but the videos alone are enjoyable and almost kinda addicting), old man rants, miscellaneous videos, and some of your definition videos. In fact it eventually led me to look up about the legality of card sleeves in tournaments (just because, once again:tangents=fun) and I learned about a term in tcgs called proxy cards. But I don't think I quite grasp the concept completely, or how common it is, or what to use for such a card. I'd love to see you do a video on the subject and it's many aspects if you have the chance. Thanks for the neat content. Once again, even though I don't play the game, I do love passion, silly yet entertaining acting, vast knowledge on a subject, and truthful output from someone. I'm rambling now, and probably setting off some grammar and punctuations errors in your head from reading this, but I'll try to check in now and again on the channel.

I have always sworn by Dragon Shields. However, I dont care for any matte finish sleeves. I've had a set that over time would wear away and the tops of the ridges would become transparent. Plus I feel that they get dirtier then regular sleeves faster. I will try the new classics when I see them and do hope they're better overall. My favorite sleeves but better? Awesome!

It's pretty cool, how ultra pro made what feels like a million sleeve varieties trying to give their consumer the very best they can. And then couldn't do so until the eclipses. Alright guys, here is the verdict. Matte Dragon Shield sleeves are the best sleeves out there!!!! They never split when you shuffle them, they are very durable, and you can shuffle them with some force and with some aggressiveness, so it feels good. I really recommend dragon shield MATTES not the glossy ones (the glossy version gets dirty quick) KMC matte sleeves - they WILL split eventually Ultra Pro Eclipses - the corners on these suck balls and will get damage, and the corners get flimsy real fast

I regret having bought the Dragon Shield Classic Sleeves *Blue*. I purchased them from Card Kingdom and received the originals accidentally as it was a mix up. I then received the new Classic line of Dragon Shield Classics free of cost and free shipping from Card Kingdom. They were EXACTLY the same as the originals and the originals were curled, scratched, and dirty out of the box. This was a bummer considering Card Kingdom was so kind as to send me a new box free of cost and payed shipping out of their pocket to send me a product that is relabeled and sold as being better when it fact they are not and old. I mean the scratches were even in the same spot (the scratches ran across the sleeve and were perfectly parallel to the bottom and top of the sleeve almost as if it was coming off the line at the factory this way). I messaged Dragon Shield at their Contact which was sent to me by Card Kingdom and they haven't responded to my emails/messages.

My KMC sleeves seem to get bent corners and split sides more often lately... So for now I'm using Ultra Pro's Pro-Matte since they have a good shuffle feel and are super cheap (I can get 150 Pro-Mattes for the price of 80 Hyper Mat) so I use them for all my kitchen table and casual decks. Strangely enough, none of them have split yet even after intense shuffling of double-sleeved commander decks... So I might switch to those permanently if they stay this cheap !

I've given up on KMCs because of the splitting. Mostly I get the Dragon Shield metallic sleeves these days despite the curl. Interestingly, there are some differences in double sleeving between the different metals: gold seems to be particularly difficult to double sleeve with, although none of them are as easy as the lamented Hyper Mats.

Dragon Shield has a very bad history of testing new formulas without marking their boxes. I've given them a lot of grief over this, and I think we are starting to see a better labeling process. At least now we can tell the dang difference between Matte and Classic by what it says on the box. But yeah, sometimes they just seem to say "Hey! Here's a neat new style of sleeve! Let's see if people like it! No, don't do anything different with the box. Just call it Green." Grrrrrrr...

The Legion Bricks may have some quality control issues. My friend bought some and there were some that were nearly split out of the box.

Hey Professor, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to do a video where you take some of your higher rated sleeves (As and Bs) and do a review of their mini counterparts? As someone that plays more Yugioh than Magic, I've found that something like KMC Hyper Mattes are great either way but mini Dragon Shields were a lot worse than what I've experienced with standards.

Sad to hear KMC are slipping quality :-( Love the new playmat, I quote that all the time :-) I am moving soon but once I get settled and hopefully have some cash again I will be ordering :-) EDIT: You do ship to the UK, don't you?
