I know this commet is A LITTLE late but I want to tell you about something that happened while doing this "trick". I was doing this trick for some friends of mine and I already found the coin a few times but we were not standing up, we were sitting at a table. One of my friends brought the coin behind his back and brought back his fists, but I couldn't figure out where it was, so I said "you dropped it on the chair". It was actually what he had done and his reaction was pretty hilarious :)

I had a girl do this to me about 55 years ago when I was about 10. I tried it on my 13 year old grandson a couple of months ago and by accident I noticed his eye movements, and guessed correctly which hand the coin was in for 15 straight times. I told him I just figured out I had a gift of mind reading, so he better be good from now on because I would know if he was good or bad. I told him how I did it, mostly because the girl that did it to me would never tell me how she did it. It made me a kid again for a few minutes.

OMG Chris! Too often, tricks that amaze you at first when you see them, actually are based on principles like peeking, which is really disappointing and can take the magic away from your personal experience. Actual BODY-LANGUAGE tricks are like real magic, even to the magician. Thanks for this tutorial, even if the response is really late:):)

I just came back to this video, because believe it or not this is my first video I have ever seen you in. At start I was ok, I can do that, but never really did it as a performance, so you think outside of the box and the twist with the watch? I have seen what you did and I was like genius! Subtle! So simple! I really am afraid to steal watches or reverse pickpocket or pickpocket. I learned a few deceptions to do it, but even this, to but something under was so smooth for me! Since then I was following you, especially your tutorials. Thank you so much! You brought me back to my childhood and made me to have more respect for the craft. I left magic around 18, 20. I wanted to impress my girlfriend, and I did, but after we broke up I just left magic. You brought me back! I feel more at easy ever since. Thank you!

When you mentioned annoying your family all I could remember was that one month where I made my dad, mom, brother, literally anyone who would do it, put anywhere from 1 to 10 cards in my hand and I'd try to guess by weight alone how many were there. I got really good and the concept was I'd be able to go, feels like two 10s and a five in my head. This would mean that I could simply know the order of the deck, turn around let them deal cards onto the table and then take the discard after and be able to know their card. It didn't work very well, I'm still learning and getting better I think it'll be a great trick eventually. Just wanted to share that with a couple people, I'm not good at keeping secrets.

Great stuff Chris! I sometimes would do the opposite where I use some sleight of hand while having the spectator guess which hand it's in using classic palm and then doing the final by asking them to time how long I take to vanish the coin after dupe loading. I like this idea as it removes the whole aspect of simly fooling the spectator and instead immerse them more into the routine.

not many people wear watches these days, so I came up with another way to do the same effect, requires a little more setup though. Add a bit of double sided tape or one of those sticky dot things to your duplicate coin, and when you grab their hands, load it onto the back of their hand, take the other coin and tell them to leave their hands out and palm up, when you say the coin is in their hand, they look down confused and say "no, on the back of your hand" .... its a bit weird because it has something sticky on it, but still...

I'm an odd one. My eye twitches in the opposite direction. My head tilts towards my empty hand. I always cross my hands with the coin on top. I'm curious to know if me going from being right-handed to ambidextrous has anything to do with this. Doubt it, but it's so weird that I focus so much on the empty hand.

From the teaching of how and why to use this effect as a means to divert attention away from more precious methods that layman may inquiry myself about, this method has further increased my street performance. Also I started street performing with music and later with divination mostly tarot readings so when ppl ask if magic is real I simply explain all of existence is an illusion and if they want a more spiritual experience I offer a tarot reading(mind you I have much experience with divination so I get very accurate personal divinations/psychic readings) but trust me anyone can do it, thanks Chris for this valuable method of display and explaination!

I just tried this with my 6yr old son and his visual clue with his eyes was super-apparent each time. Amazing. For fun I then asked him to cross his arms after 5 times of me getting it right, and surprisingly, it wasn't in the hand underneath but luckily I'd already caught the visual clue. Perhaps this protective instinct is something that has to be developed and might be more pronounced in adults. Interesting nonetheless and thanks for sharing, my son now think I'm magic 😂

Didn't know the cross thing. Tnx! Btw: I've done this five times in a row, that's enough. Everybody will be impressed especially if you explain some probabilities. Another easy fallback I used is to ask a question they can answer using only their heads, but they can lie if they want. Is it in your right hand? is in the left? When they nod yes, look at the nose then.
@mitcheldev38037 жыл бұрын
Chris! Amazing video buddy! I just have a question: What do you do when they look away when doing this? EDIT: Crossed arms unfortunately worked less often than that it didn't work, as people are often more comfortable putting their dominant hand on top
@jacobrixen54377 жыл бұрын
This trick kinda reminds me of Cross Out by Jay Sankey. Neither really involve any "real" magic, but use psychology instead, and have a slight risk (since you can get it wrong). Sankey also encourages the performer to explain the trick to the spectator, and usually, they find the method even more interesting than the actual trick.

I did this with the 4 and 5 year olds at my work today. We used plastic toy coins. It worked about 70% of the time. I figured out they kept forgetting which hand they put it in so they were looking from hand to hand trying to work out where they had put it. Interesting developmental psychology lesson for me. One of the boys wanted me to do it so he could guess, so I grabbed him by the hips to move him in front of me and told him to watch my eyes as I slipped the coin into his pocket. He was been checking his pockets for the rest of the day convinced stuff just appears there
