🚁 Which is the Best Dji Tello Controller? a GameSir T1D or T1S OTG

I have owned the DJI Tello quadcopter for quite a while now, and I bought a GameSir T1D and later on, a GameSir T1S controller, for my android phone.
I think once you watch my review, you will know which one I prefere.

So here are my thoughts as to which is the best all rounder for flying the DJI Ryze Tello.
I personally don't like Bluetooth, as it interferes with the 2.4mhz wifi on your mobile device, this will result in dropped video frames and a jerky video feed.
The mobile phone I use is an Oppo f1S running on the android platform.

The T1S is definitely better, and versatile (you can also play games with it)) Make sure you also purchase a OTG cable to go with it, and a 3rd Party App, like TelloFPV of AtelloPilot.

Hi Gamesir T1D its made for the Tello, and is a dedicated Bluetooth Controller. Gamesir T1S can use either with a OSD cable or Bluetooth. The OTG cable is used so you won't get Bluetooth interference on your FPV video signal, and video recordings. Oi O Gamesir T1D é feito para o Tello e é um controlador Bluetooth dedicado. Thanks for the video, is the T1S compatible with iOS/iPhone. Compatible with the Tello app? Is that a big deal? Are there better apps? What controllers do you recommend overall, in order of preference? I am looking for a controller of this design that can use the Tello app, has bluetooth, OTG, and is compatible with other devices such as the Nintendo Switch. The T1S seems perfect but just want to make sure it can work with the Tello App, if that matters. Thanks!

Great video mate, I just got my gamesir t1s in today, its been charging for about 3 hours and only 2 led lights are on i believe 4 led lights on means its fully charged, is it normal for these t1s controllers to take a long time to charge, how long does yours take to charge

From memory, mine took a while to fully charge the first time I used it. All lights should be on when fully charged.

The T1d will work directly with the original Tello app If You're using the T1S, you will need a third party app, either ATello Pilot, or TelloFPV. (My Preference is TelloPilot, they also have a free limited test version)

As far as I know, Apple have no 3rd party apps at the moment. So the T1S won't work for you. I do know that a developer called volate!lo, he made TelloFPV for android, and is about to release a version for IOS. (Link to his forum posts below.) P.S. My personal favorite is the T1S, but you will need to a get 3rd party app for the controller to work with the Tello. P.S. The T1S doesn't have a 3rd party app for Apple devices. Only android devices are supported.

Gary could you please tell me how to set up the T1s for the tello on an Android phone. Everything connects but it does not work. Still have joy sticks on tello screen and the blue tooth symbol is not turned on. Could I run that cable between the phone and the controller to control drone.

Make sure the OTG cable is connected the correct way, (the cable only works in one direction) Also use a third party app running on your phone (TelloFPV or AtelloPilot)

I just bought t1s, one thing ive done was to change setup on gamesir to conenct with IOS (u use buttons combination to change it i guess it was R2+Y to change for IOS) and its working perfectly... before it didnt detect gamsir on my iphone.

The Gamesir T1S works perfect with both ATelloPilot and TelloFPV. T1S will NOT WORK with the Official Tello Play Store app. (However, the T1D Does) I would suggest the T1S is the way to go.

I just got the set with t1d and for some reason right stick reduces response after 5-6 seconds into flight. Every time. Movements are rather robotic with minimum input and in any slight wind drone will drift and right stick is useless. Reset t1d, updated tello, still the same. Flight with phone only is just fine.

Sounds like a calibration error. But I'm not sure. I still have the T1D but don't use it, the T1S is my prefered controller.

Unfortunately, my son seems to have a newer phone with a different charging port, and the cable won't fit in his phone, which is a Samsung Galaxy S9. I've google the type of port, says it's USB C. Do you think just getting a USB C to Micro USB OTG cable will work? Or a converter from USB C to Micro USB we could attach to the same cable? Obviously it's not your concern, but as a not super techie guy I'd appreciate any thoughts you might care to share!

The battery needs to be charged fully before use. So leave it on charge for a few hours first, the Led should indicate when its fully charged.

A a new Tello owner I thank you for your video. Do you see any difference in how accurately the Tello reacts to the sticks between OTG and bluetooth? I bought the T1D, but for controlling the Tello inside it is just too jerky. There's a bit of lag and no fine movements. Or is there someway to make the movements as accurate as with the Tello app on screen controls?

Bluetooth will always lag, OTG is more direct, as it doesn't require a second connection to the Tello, so less lag.

Update: I sent the T1 bluetooth controller back for a refund and tested a new T1 (wired) today via USB and OTG. Right away I can say that this flies much better, as the controlls are a lot finer. Now I can fly indoors without crashing all the time, great! The controller is very picky about which cable you use. Some work, but the cheapy short ones don't. The one that comes with it works (but it's rather long). Thought I'd share this with new users who are looking into buying a controller. So a big thank you to Gary for the great tip!

I made the same mistake of buying T1d too. For some reason, T1d is more expensive than T1s. Also please note T1d do not have vibration motors, T1s have them.

Try rebooting your phone, and resetting the Tello to its original settings, then add the T1D.

that i can not do...maybe with the original tello app..but im using the fpv volatello version and i once accidentally uninstalled that app and bought a new one just to enjoy much more tello flying...i think the gamesir is the real problem maybe not so sure i have tried resetting the pin hole button and calibrated the sticks of the gamesir the problem persist...

The T1s works with any app that supports a gamesir controller. Works with stock tello on my iPhone 7 and all the different Android apps on my cheap dollar store Android. But I would definitely be recommend the T1S since it is far more compatible than the T1D
