Dye trader is A teir because each strange plant nets you 2.5 gold. That's as much gold as a pinky. You could make a case for B teir but strange plants are fairly common so he can get you a lot of gold quickly. He's essential in my opinion for pre-hardmode.

I actually love the guide npc, yes I know everything he says can be found on the wiki, but I genuinely like the crafting thing. Instead of having to search online for materials, I can just put the material into the guide and see all of the recipes there are. He is especially useful in mods like calamity where vanilla items are used in new recipes that you can’t find on the wiki.

I'd put mechanic in S tier, just because of the Grand Design, and how many times that has saved me from foolishly stumbling into traps. Actuators are also really good; You can make crazy large arenas, and have actuated block still count towards the biome (e.g. so that Plantera doesn't enrage). and I think you can still use them to expand the arena for Golem in 1.4, if worldgen gave you a tiny chamber. I'd also put the Dye Trader in B; I don't use him, but he gives you so much free money early game from the plants and dyes he trades you. Also, all pets into S, because animals :D Tavern Keep I'd only put in A tier when playing modded, because of Fargo's Soul Mod. I'd put Travelling Merchant bottom C tier, because he either a) doesn't sell the items I want, or b) does it when I have no money to buy them :( Angler needs his own unique tier; I had to suffer so much to make the cellphone because of him...

@@San-lh8us nah, I use merchant more, Unless I get a straight up negative on the weapon. Merchant sells torches and arrows, and you can use those arrows to make all the other arrows (even when I’m not ranger main, frost burn arrows are nice to have). Also, I get where Gungnir’s coming from, but there’s also no other NPC I’ve burned with lava more, INCLUDING the ones you get weapons from! That’s why I’m kinda torn. I get why he put him there, but I hate that he does belong there because of how much I hate him. (Plus, the other point I made was that the guy who gives free money is below angler??? I mean maybe you don’t get him very often, but it’s literally being paid to have more playtime on your world!) So basically, my tier list would have been different, but since it’s literally opinion (except the dog, that was factual) it doesn’t really matter.

@@Spiney09 oh, yeah,the tax collector is miles ahead the angler to me too, but on your other point, i never actually run out of torches or arrow(or the materials to craft them) so i don't atcually use the merchant for anything else than to get an early anvil, so as much as i hate the goblin tinkerer, he's still the best NPC in terms of utility, in terms of the best homie, i really like my man Cyborg

I use the angler a ton, and you absolutely need him to get the cell phone. I feel like Angler would either be S-high A or F tier for any individual, there’s really no in between for it.

Yeah he stinks for everyone else, but the Angler is a lifesaver for fishers. High test fishing line is a necessity for fishing. I’ll just leave it at that.

On paper, Goblin TInkerer should be S tier, giving your weapons and accessories reforges is amazing and super useful. HOWEVER, you can spend 100 platinum coins and still somehow end up with only a Shoddy or Broken reforge. Cat is S tier, FIGHT ME. I would argue Angler is a decent motivator, since they encourage you to actually make fishing spots in different biomes which then tends to give you safe spots for potion fish and crates. Because I'm lazy. Clothier is useful for respawning Skeletron, if you want trophy, mask, or Master Mode pet. Otherwise Zoologist is way better for cosmetics. Dye Trader is plagued by RNG for the dyes I really like. I never use paint in building. Stylist has hairstyles that aren't the basic-ass shit you find in character creation. Also the hair dyes can be neat depending. I'ma be honest, the Tavernkeep Event is probably better than the game it's originally from. Tax the Tinkerer, the fucker makes it harder for any other NPC to get a home. Unlike the irl bourgeois, they're actually useful though. Travelling is lower for me because I fucking hate RNG. Truffle: Hoverboard. That is all. The only reason anyone is less than neutral to Zoologist is to "prove they're not a furry." And they're not even an anthro most of the time. Learn your subcultures, dipshits. Town pets, early whips, _Guide to Critter Companionship,_ *Universal Pylon,* and some fun pets.

I switch Dryad and the Merchant. Not only does he become less useful but most of those items he sell you will have a lot of. Plus in hardmode he is still selling lesser potions and not even greater ones. Which makes you farm bosses for potions. While the Dryad is still useful in hardmode as some people use her for the buff she gives you when a enemy is around. Which works when bosses are around her area.

The Dryad buff is tiny, and the last thing you want in a boss fight is to stay stationary, especially as you get farther along. Meanwhile, even if arrows can be crafted, the Merchant offers large quantities of them for cheap, meaning that where the Arm's dealer carries half of the Ranger playstyle, the Merchant can cover the other half with the arrows he sells. I would say that that alone could put him in easy A tier, even ignoring the early utility his items provide.

here are my thoughts on some of the NPCs I really like the guide because I always find myself in the situation of, I just checked the wiki and I think I have all the items but I can’t put them together, but whenever I get into that situation the guide helps me out In my opinion the merchant is definitely s tier. He gives ammo for the flare gun, the pigy bank for easy money storage, the safe for storing valuables, arrows for easy endless quiver, and healing potions for pre-hardmode. I don’t know why everyone hates the angler, I really like him. The goblin tinkerer is the worst NPC in the game. You go to him once for rocket boots and once for the tinkerers workbench. Then all you do is reforge, it costs an absolutely outrageous amount to reforge anything and, not only that you have to reforge everything 20 million times to get an okay modifier. Santa is Santa and belongs in s-teir 🎅 I play on Xbox (1.3.5) so for me the nurse costs 1 copper for 1 health (Or at least I think that’s the way it works) The party girl sells the beach ball which puts her in s-teir I like the pirate because I really like building pirate ships in terraria, and the pirate gives me an excuse to do that

The merchant sells safe and piggy bank, both of which i use all game. Plus the healing and mana potions are very useful. I would put him above witch doctor being that you only use really use witch doctor in a summoner playthrough and although she is useful for melee and wings, she isn't a necessity like the merchant is in my opinion, so I would put merchant above witch doctor and even maybe steampunker. If you are playing ranger, going for the best loadout pre-moonlord would require the truffle so for that i would put him at the bottom of A. Cyborg makes the celebration relevant so I would put him in B tier, and party girl gives you the cake which saves me hours of time while mining. Finally, I think the traveling merchant should be moved to the bottom of A tier because he also sells very useful gear like the celestial magnet, dps meter and other cellphone materials, building accessories, zapinators, and a lot more.

The problem with the cyborg is there’s like 3 good launchers that use rockets in the game, electrosphere launcher, snowman cannon, and celebration mkII, which is post moon lord. So you have an npc basically dedicated to three weapons, though admittedly they are good weapons. It also doesn’t help that rockets are extremely resource taxing, they fire fast and the two best rockets are mini nukes, which cost 1 shroomite bar per 100 rockets, and cluster rockets, which are for some reason ridiculously expensive, seriously you can go broke just by trying to fuel your snowman cannon. It takes 1 platinum and 50 gold to buy 2000 cluster rockets which get used up pretty quickly. Also doesn’t help that cluster rockets don’t really work with electrosphere launcher and celebration mkII.

Bunny is easy S tier, but otherwise I don’t disagree with this ranking as much as I thought I would. I also don’t think tax collector should be that low. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s free money. I think you should’ve thought about how NPCs make others happy. For example, cyborg could’ve been higher because of how much he reduces the prices for the steampunker, who you put at S tier. Another useful thing to consider is how they defend themselves. Some of them will just sit around and let themselves get decimated, while some NPCs will directly aid you in combat, or the dryad who has the dryad’s blessing. One last thing is the universal pylon. If you happen to be a massochist or just have a lot of free time, the zoologist gives you the universal pylon for 100% completion of the bestiary, which I think should put her above skeleton merchant at least

I personaly dissagree with zoologist being C Tier cause you need her in order to start a summoner play through. Without you cant get a summoner weapon which is the first whip you can obtain in the game and dealing 14 damage its pretty nice to start off with. I mean its 14 gold which is annoying but if you break a lot of pots, you will get 14 gold easily plus you can get lucky and get 15 gold out of one pot which for me it happened a lot of times. So for me she is B tier

dye trader was very good in 1.3 early game, since every strange plant was worth at least 2.5 gold

When he was ranking the tax collecter and said that by the end of the playthrough the goblin has like 300 platnium. By the end of my play throughs he has like 50 gold max lol

The golfer should be higher than angler because he's an easy forest pylon and he's way more likable in terms of personality.
