@@MT-kx2uc I think matted ceramic like in the pelagos would look good on it keeping with the warm look of the watch while giving the advantages of modern bezels. I just think the deep black bezel is part of this watch's beauty. fading to light grey will make it less appealing

Ceramic bezel would've made it look more modern, not exactly what they were going for on this model. Buy the watch, you won't regret it. And if it gets scratched a little, who cares?! Just $.02 from someone who owns the 58

Nice review. I personally had the opportunity to purchase the original BB with the ETA movement, but opted for the newer in-house movement with the 70 hour power reserve and....yes the much more masculine Tudor shield. The larger case at 41mm suites me more than the new 58 as I have 8 inch wrist, but can see the benefit of the 39mm 58 for those with a sub 7 inch wrist. The BB is incredibly accurate timepiece and keeps the time even better when worn (vice a mechanical winder). A heavy duty timepiece for those that want precision coupled with good looks. A fantastic offering from Tudor which undeniably brought Tudor back from its long hiatus/obscurity.

Love the 58! My favorite Tudor by far and my favorite semi-affordable watch in general. And it’s the perfect size for my wrist too. The ideal allrounder...handsome, in-house, no-date, reliable and tough, accurate too. My only caveat...inevitable damage to the aluminum (rather than scratch resistant ceramic) bezel insert. But then I suppose, if it got really scratched up badly, Tudor could always replace it.

I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've cherished for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and aluminium bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when it's barely 35% of a Sub's retail price - go to an AD and try one on. An in-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed.

Mainland Europe is scorching hot right now. But Adrian still walking in a sweater, heavy coat in the dripping rain. Got to love Britain. I completely agree that the rose and the 'smiley text' was more attractive. I prefer the dimensions of the 58. To me it gives the watch kind of a vintage submariner vibe that I strangely did not get (despite the inspiration) from the larger Black Bay. At this point I would consider the ETA a benefit. There are all kinds of different qualities of inhouse movements. And not all of them have the pedigree and proven reliability of the ETA movements. Even Tudor, only recently on their Black Bay GMT, still had major issues with their new movements. I know it goes beyond function, as some people think a watch maker does not really count unless they make their own movements. But from a practical standpoint as a consumer, and as someone mainly interested in the quality of the watch that is on my wrist: ETA is not a bad thing. There are other more interesting movements that I'd rather have, but I certainly do not prefer just ANY inhouse movement because it is inhouse (regardless of its style, look, shape, function, complexity etc).

Rather stick with the ETA, because when it comes time to service (as with all mechanical watches) it'll be more cost friendly and robust than an in house movement.

I agree ETA calibers are reliable but I personally like the individual soul that a proprietary caliber gives to the brand. Now, if you take good care of a extremely precise caliber designed specifically for a beautiful case like the BB 58, you really don´t need to worry about getting parts from the manufacturer. Proper oiling and cleaning will be enough.

I've owned only Silver Watches before and feel like maybe going with the Bronze might be a great addition to my journey into the world of watch collection. Really it's just down to whether I get a Nomos Tangente or get the Tudor for now. I would eventually hope to have both in my collection. Both extremely unique pieces from Baselworld 2019.

2015 Tudor Heritage Black Bay Black (Ref. 79220N) ETA is my daily. One of the very best "heritage" designs in my humble opinion. I much prefer the Tudor rose on the dial and crown, the "smiling" Rotor Self-Winding inscription on the dial, and the bracelet design to the current model and BB58. Having said that, my next Tudor will most likely be the BB58. Similar, yet different to the BB ETA. Both are great watches for any collection in my opinion.

Hi. I bought the bb58 few months ago. Bought new and worth every penny. I have a slimmer wrist, wears beautiful. Much better dare I say than my Rolex datejust and submariner. The movement is great and keeping great time. Build quality is so good for the £2560 price tag. I could easily flip this watch and make a profit but that wont ever happen. I'm more likely to sell my Rolex datejust . Definitely worth the wait for the bb58. If you don't like the braclet it also looks great on leather strap but buy it with the braclet first and then swap over. Great video as always. Cheers David

Very good video, Adrian. I must disagree with the ETA BB over the new in-house 41mm. While I learned something in your video, that there is a difference in the height of the 2 versions, which upsets me even more about about the height of my 41mm BBs that I always believed were to tall, the in-house 70 hour movement and the removal of the “Squale” smiling text put the new version over the old version with room to spare. I do agree that the 58 is the best of all worlds, having the PR of the new BBs and Rolexes, and the 39mm size with much more traditional low profile height. I was going to add the GMT, but it’s clear now that the 58 is a more important piece for my collection and one I’ll enjoy much more as a Rolex vintage with the damn right to be an homage and better.

Great article, thanks. I have both, and for me the 58 is the clear winner. Totally agree that the ETA dial is better with the curved writing and rose, I wish they'd kept that design throughout, but the slab-sided nature of the full size BB just doesn't work for me. The height of the 58 is what really makes it, it's just a perfectly proportioned watch. Can't wait for the inevitable two-tone 58 at some point, I'll be throwing my money at them!

To be honest though, the 58 isn't my cup of tea due to it's size. with 7 3/4 inch wrists what does one expect lol. The model I absolutely love though is the Tudor Pelagos, I only wish they would come out with a GMT version, both a "Pepsi" and a "Batman" and all in stainless steel. Great video as always. Funny how good coffee and good watches go together. I love my Black Bay Black ETA. Such a beautiful watch. I’m more than happy with it, and certainly don’t feel the need or desire to switch to the BB58. I bought mine on the leather, and it came with the fabric strap, but I was lucky enough to find someone selling a brand new steel bracelet, so I have the best of all 3 worlds. My only complaint is the slight rattle from the end links on the steer bracelet. Solid end links would have been the icing on the cake, but other than that, it’s perfect.

I have a Tudor Black bay 36 with ETA 2824 movement in it. Tudor regulate the movement to be very accurate although it is not COSC certified. This is by no mean is a bad movement. But I am worry about longevity serviceability of this watch. I know ETA 2824 has been on market for decades and we can find the parts for this movement pretty easily. But the problem is Swatch group is cutting down the supply of ETA movement together with the parts to the company outside of swatch group. I am not sure whether there is someday in the future where our ETA powered Tudor watches will eventually stop getting the parts from ETA or we will end up using sellita parts as alternative.

I've got the BBGMT, and I have no issue with the rivets of the bracelet, don't bother me in the slightest and I don't get why people get so bent out of shape about it. Just bought a BB 79230N. I like swimming against the tide in the hyped-up herd mentality of the watch world and seem to always chose the leftfield version hence why I bought the Sub with case holes and love quartz! 41mm works on my wrist it is a dive watch afterall and not an office/flex ornament. I find the 58 to be spot on. Not perfect, but as close to the vintage Rolex/Tudors of old without the upfront costs and inherent fragility. Maybe someone have noticed, but there is an obvious visual trick from the designers on the new BB58 with straight dial text at the bottom. Now if you look from a bit of a distance, there is perfect and accurate silouette of Queen chess figure hidden on the dial. Whats more - it is covering fair of a space across the dial, top to bottom. The lower "stand" part of the figure shape is consisted of three text lines, each wider than the one above . The last text line is straight instead curved as in older BB58, completing the very bottom line of figure's profile. The top of the Queen's figure / head is created the upper typography, with the Tudor's shield at the very top, creating illusion of the crown, sitting on the head of the Queen. It is very well thought visual component in my opinion, not a product of random. Adds sort of "mythological" status quo to this fantastic timepiece even more : )

Great punchy video fella. I personally think Tudor are on fire at the moment. It started with the 7922, (particularly red bezel and black bezel - I don't think the blue has the same warm and deep look) and they've gone from strength to strength. I love the bronzes. I think they've been v astute with their marketing. I also love the GMT. My 2 original 2824's get a lot of wrist time. Both were affordable, v reliable, and v handsome. I think you should pull the trigger on a 58. You love your Explorer so that slightly smaller watch is subtly more easy on the eye and wrist

I have owned both. Even though I have a small wrist (17cm)I liked 41mm with ETA movement better than Fifty Eight. Sold the Fifty Eight. Scarcity of Fifty eight is making it more desirable to a certain extent.

I have the in house red bezel Tudor Black Bay and love it but it is a bit chunky. The 58 really fills the bill but I bought a Rolex 18 months ago and haven’t taken it off since the day I bought it. The 58 would be my next watch but at the moment I can’t see it happening. Great review and video.

You know what. Last week I got my BB58 and sent it back for the ETA 79220N I got today as new old stock ;-) The BB58 was too small for me and looked too playful. I didn't like the golden bezel and the leather bracelet and buckle were too small for my wrist. But it had a very good rate of -1 in four days. I'll wait and see how the ETA goes - she's smiling at me right now :)

Black Bay 58 hands down for me. Sold my BB ETA after living with them both for a few weeks. The BB58 wears infinitely better and has almost double the power reserve.

Have tried both the new Black Bay and the Black Bay 58. I have a 7,25 inch wrist and in my opinion the 58 fit me much much better. Fantastic watch

I like the 58 as it will suit my tiny wrists, but I probably go for the ETA, as it has more character, it will be cheaper to buy and to service. It's a shame really, the problem with in house movements they are tricky to maintain like you said, the parts would scarce and very expensive.

I just left a message for Tudor to call me when they come out with a 39mm case, the ETA movement, the curved typography, and a rose on the dial.

The 58 is simply great. And the barista at 0:23 wears an interesting timepiece there.

I'm having the same issue with the 58. I really like it and I want to buy one, but there's something that's keeping me from going for it. I don't know why but I just can't seem to find a good enough reason to buy it.

Hi, I am looking to purchase a Tudor BB with black bezel. Please can you tell me if you would consider using a company like WatchBuyer UK rather than using an AD. Please can you give me the pro's and con's of going down this route.

58 is technically better but ETA is more collectible.

Both watch are nice and have pro/cons. I personally like the eta version better w the bigger case. One thing w eta movement, people like to shit on it but it’s a very reliable movement. I have a Rolex gmt ceramic that a gear broke and the hour hand stopped advancing. My local watch maker could not fix it and no one could source the part. I sent it back to Rolex for service and cost 670, granted it was for a full service but Rolex refused to change that part alone. If this was an eta watch, it’s a 50 dollar job all day long! Just something to think about when consider these tudors, since eta version are plenty on the secondary market. Great video!

The 58 is a thing of beauty. That said, I adore both my BB's with the 2824 (red bezel and black bezel) and both are great time keepers. I think in recent times that Tudor have smashed it out of the park with models and marketing. The Harrods and the Bucherer Blue Bronze for example are stunning watches. Nice video Adrian. Cheers

Does the leather strap version look good on someone with small wrists? Seems a bit bulky with the clasp and overlap. Unfortunately I’m not able to try this version on at the AD before ordering.

I'd rather have the ETA and rose smiley dial in the BB 58 however if I had to pick between the two, it would be the thinner 39mm BB 58 without question. Yes the first 79220 ETA was a little thinner than the current 79230 but still unnecessarily to thick.

Adrian, I have the 58. It's impressive! The quality of this thing is another level, it really looks badass, very close feel to it's big brother or classic submariner/explorer. The riveted bracelet si going very good for me, I once hesitated to get it because of this but I can say that it's actually hard to see the rivets when your´re wearing it, the whole watch design steals the sight away. The 58 is for me the way to go with Tudor and I must say in some cases it's the way to go overall if you want a superb-minimal-high quality but lower key everyday-do-it-all watch. Cheers from Mexico!

Would love to see 58 with the rose and smiley face - but latter may be challenging given how much text there is to promote the COSC.
