Wow! That was all interesting! This is why I don't do soap forums! Run, don't walk away from them! Chantine, you always amaze me with your calm attitude when people lie about your recipes! I'd do more than call them out for it! I don't have space for ignorant behavior! Your a better person than I am!

Well thanks. I appreciate that. ❤️ Behind the scenes, I have my people and my venting space that keep me from spinning out when these things happen. That allows me the ability to turn things into teaching moments once it’s time to film the video. After I have a conversation with the person that posted the thing, of course.

my rule of thumb for using someone else's recipe is to follow the recipe to a 'T'. If I want to change something later, then I do it one ingredient at a time, maybe half that ingredient. To blame those who gave their recipes out of the best of their hearts after changing everything is just unthoughtful of them. She used good ingredients, but needed to do some research with trial and error methods...its science! I made this same recipe when it was first offered and mine came out like meringue but that was my fault as I left it in the mixer too long, and I didn't take into account the high altitude I live in (8100 ft.) I am still learning what I can add and what I shouldn't add...when I make it again, I'll know better...I hope. Sometimes, I don't learn quickly.

I just started making soap a year and a half ago and you’re one of the first KZbinrs I started following. Your videos, tutorials and recipes have helped me along so much and I appreciate everything you put out there. If I use one of your recipes and it doesn’t come out, I know it’s because I did something wrong and I try to figure out what it was.
@MrsSoapAndClay2 жыл бұрын
Well, it can be the recipe. Whenever anyone has a problem, the first thing I do is go back to the video and check it against my recipes; maybe I messed up too. Hasn’t happened yet, but I also first assume it was me. 😂

same here! I made the paste and I know I did something wrong; it stayed very light in color and doesn't look like the example. I used the correct amounts but I know I did SOMETHING different. I don't ever understand the reason to put anyone down, but sounds like maybe a little jealousy going on. I love Mrs. Soap and Clay, thank you for all you teach us!

I have stayed away from making whipped soap scrubs and whipped sugar soap scrubs till I saw your recipe. I did make one change and it was using babassu oil instead of coconut oil. I have all coconut free products due to me being internally and externally allergic to coconut. The recipe worked great. I had a group of teen daughters, grown daughters, extended family members, and friends test my whipped sugar soap scrub they all have loved it. It will be in my line of products now. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us.

I used the soap paste and whipped Sugar scrub recipe you posted forever ago and I haven't had a single issue. I only live 3 hours south of you so our climates are similar and I knew it would be fine. The only thing I've noticed is some of my fragrances deflate or do funny things, also heat exposure can deflate. The recipe on its own, in its original form and with my super minor adjustments has always been fantastic and I always credit you and note when I've changed anything ❤️ if something happens I always assume error on my part or a not so friendly FO. I use tallow in my recipes, and I source mine from local ranchers in its raw form and I cook and filter it all myself. It's amazing stuff!
@Abutado2 жыл бұрын
I actually don't use tallow in my scrub though, I like to keep all those vegan friendly.

Tallow makes a lovely bar of soap, and it’s a really good way to responsibly use the animal that’s already being used for meat.

@@MrsSoapAndClay precisely why I enjoy it. I also buy meat from those suppliers and it's premium quality. Very much a resource I appreciate for feeding my family great quality meat and supplying me with something I love in my soaps at a great price and giving me the opportunity to support local farmers/ranchers/businesses for my supplies instead of big box stores. Just adds another layer of pride for my product ❤️

I totally agree with u. People need to get over themselves and be honest. Good for u on making great comments about this subject. Also people need to get less judgy for their very own selfish purposes. Reputations can’t be destroyed with a comment or two on social media. This has become the norm. People are lost and are not looking at how to dissect information properly. It’s attack mode and the “look at me, I know more than you do” syndrome. Thanks again. I appreciate your expertise and comments
@MrsSoapAndClay2 жыл бұрын
Reputations definitely can be ruined by some misplaced comments. It is sad that we seem to be hardwired to find our entertainment in watching or participating in the bashing of others. I’ve had such a hard time with that, and I’m not ready to accept this as our norm, you know? I push back against it when possible.

I had to run away from that particular forum over a year ago! I do work with tallow and lard. I also like a basic 30/30/30/10 recipe, the first 30 being palm. BUT with either tallow or lards I go 15/15/30/30/10., 15 palm/15 tallow or lard. THAT is my favorite go to recipe. I also try to get as close to 50/50 sat/unsat as I can and this recipe is pretty close! It will be interesting to see if I can use some of that soap to make a base for scrubs. So if I had wanted to simply adjust your recipe to include tallow, I simply would have cut the mango by 1/2 and added the difference in tallow. I would not have made other changes to YOUR recipe though. That was simply just ridiculous! But yes, a good teaching point for us. And a good warning on the definition of defamation!

Fortunately my fatty acid profile was more similar to your recipe than hers, but I definitely learned a lot, and if it goes awry I'll have a good idea of which parts of my formula to blame.

Even IF you follow the exact recipe it can fail because there is also a level of skill and experience that makes a person able to succeed with any recipe. Its like blaming a lemon meringue recipe because you dont have the skill required to know when to stop whipping. Defamation is right. You were treated terribly it sounds like. 2 things: 1)where to get soap calc software/how much is it? 2) for soap and bath bombs, Can you pre mix parts while you wait on other ingredients and supplies? What to combine and stores for how long?

If the commenter had simply swapped out the mango butter with tallow, nothing else, it probably would've come out ok. I'm going to try that myself b/c now I'm curious, but the sat:unsat is 43:57 vs 42:58 from the original. FA profile changes slightly. Why they changed the entire recipe blows my mind...just tamper with it a little bit at a time...

Speaking of trying out your recipe, I tried a similar one to yours... I changed out the mango butter for shea. However when I was trying to make soap for a foam pump, it had an odd scent to it after the fragrance oil. I even tried 3 different scents from different companies just to see if maybe it was that variable. Do you have any tips on what went wrong? I have lots of shea butter but no mango.
