Larapin!! Haven't said that in years!! My grandmother always said something was "larapin good"..... or "pure D larapin!" Haha! We're also from Texas and say oil the same way you do, Miss Lori. Very familiar with Mexican food and sopapillas. Up here in the panhandle, I used to only see them in a big triangle. When I was a kid, the authentic restaurants served them with butter on the side and a bottle of honey. We'd just tear off a corner and put butter down in the middle using a knife, then squirt in a bunch of honey. Still managed to make a mess no matter what, lol. Nowadays when you order sopapillas you're liable to get it already sugared or drizzled in chocolate, or even served with ice cream! Which is yummy .... but I just miss the old traditional ones from childhood sometimes. Good memories. Love and blessings to y'all from a little rural town near Amarillo. Y'all stay safe and healthy!

It’s funny how all different cultures have their own version of a fried pocket of dough with both savoury and sweet fillings. The Chinese have egg rolls and spring rolls, the south Asian cultures have samosas, Middle East cultures have kibbe, sambousak. Four years ago my husband and I sponsored a Syrian family to come to Canada. One of the blessings of this family has been learning new cooking recipes. The food is sooooo wonderful. I have learned to make several different types of little pockets with meat and veggies and some with sweets and sweet cheese from my new family members. They are so delicious. We all have our own ways but food is the great binder that brings us all together. They are now part of our immediate family and we love them like our own. I have four new grandchildren and now a daughter I never expected to have.

Ms Lori, I make a special fried bread to accompany chilled watermelon called Rull Kuchen. It is made with 4 cups os of flour, 4 teaspoons of baking powder, 4 eggs, 1 teaspoons of salt and 1 can of evaporated milk. I form and fry the dough the same way you made your sopa pillas. This is one of those special summertime meals my family loves. Thank you for reminding me of good times. Bless you and Mr. Brown.

@KTinNZ What is the recipe for your fry bread! If you wouldn't mind sharing! Thank you 🤗
@katiethorne224 жыл бұрын
@@starlenearnold300 Hi Starlene, theres two methods used in NZ for Fry Bread. One uses Self Raising Flour & water & the other uses yeast. What method a person uses usually depends on your family recipe, & ingredient amounts vary (depending on family size). Most people go by look, feel and texture, it's not an exact science, & the best fry bread recipes are rarely written down, they are passed down one generation to the next, & usually there is one person who is really good at making it lol. I'll include some KZbin vids you might want to have a look at, to give you an idea. I prefer the S/raising method, but have also tasted great Fry Bread made with yeast. For S/raising one, watch MrRooXs 'How to make the best fried bread, Maori styles wit Mr RooXs' OR Haka Kaa 'How to make Fry Bread.' 1/2

They remind me of beignets too. They look delicious. In our area in south MS'sippi and across the stateline in Louisiana, the local Mexican restaurant's sopapillas are thin, flat, fried cinnamon bread with warm honey and vanilla icecream. When he got home he was a muddy mess but was smiling ear-to-ear. As he walked in, they were coming out of the hot oil. He poured some of Ben Vinson's Honey from @VW Family Farms over top of that small piece of heaven with powdered sugar. What an absolute Delight. We love you all so much and hope you are staying safe. I love the way you explain this. A lot of people on u-tube talk so fast when they give recipes, I can’t get them on the first pass. It’s real annoying. But the way you did it was just perfect. I’ll be subscribing now. Thank you!

I WILL be making this recipe, i forgot to mention that. Ty so much for sharing your recipes and time with us ALL. I feel so welcomed and most times, like we are sitting in a comfy chair, spending time visiting a close and very much loved friend. Ty for that. Especially now, when so many are alone and struggling with that. I am blessed with a great husband and a nearby son, also GOD is my pilot, so I'm never lonely. My bible is getting a well needed work out lately. I invite ALL to go to GOD. He awaits you. He loves us ALL. HUGS and GOD bless us ev1 🤗❤👣

Those look delish. To add the honey just cut off a corner and drizzle the honey in the opening. It will coat the entire inside of the soapapilla. This is soapapilla country. Yum!!! Good eatin ms Lori

Loved watching the two of you bantering back and forth. I get excited when they puff up, too. I was drooling when you opened that one and put in the guac and sour cream. And is there anything in the world better than a fry bread Indian taco?????

Lori, I know I’m watching this at 330am lol 🤪but I thought I was losing it when you said the ingredients...you said. “ BAKING SODA”! Then I was thinking how are they going to puff up? I was listening to You both making me laugh -about the T-shirt comment & how well he listens to you when you cook that I HAD to go back & watch/listen to you again Lol. * Around 01:25ish ..... yes I KNOW YOU MEANT BAKING POWDER 🥰. We had them at a Mexican Restaurant a few yrs ago. They served them with a touch of Confectioners sugar and Honey & chocolate sauce on the side. Yummy. Love ya hon... thanks for making me laugh & teaching me how to make them for my Family. SUPER BIG HUGS ~ Anita. 💜
