Hey fellas, long time whiskey tribe member and Irish Whiskey connoisseur. Recently lost a friend who died as a result of alcohol. He was still in college, and in his honor I am doing a dry period. Hoping you Bastards could raise a glass of water in his name (Jack), and thank you again for bringing to light the importance of not letting something we all love become a problem. Cheers

I've been sipping whiskeys since I turned 21. And I'm 32 now. I've tried near and possibly over 100 different whiskeys, mainly Scotches and Bourbons. I'm finally trying this one tonight. It is unbelievable. It's like a honeymoon all over again from my first real glass of quality whiskey over a decade ago. It's a definite flashback. I would recommend this to anyone. Melted, slightly burnt brown sugar is very strong on this one. It's basically candy in a glass. Edit: I have the 1870 original batch. I just realized they're doing the 1897. That'll definitely be next on my list

Daniel, you're not alone in thinking that moonshine tastes like sake, the one bottle I bought and tried, I couldn't stand the taste of, but it was bringing back some good memories from a New Years Eve with my girlfriend at the time that I couldn't place why, on the second time trying it I realized that it was because it tasted almost exactly like the bottle of sake we bought for the night because neither had it before and we both wanted to try it.

A couple years ago I found an old bottle in my parents house. Didn't know anything back then, looked at it again this weekend and it's an unopened bottle of "Old Fitzgerald 1849 aged 8 years". My mom got it in the late 80's from work. No one else in my family drinks whiskey. Mooched a bottle from my mom's work before I was born.

Not first, I know that! I have one revelation after today's episode.... there have been several memoriums, and now a new prayer, numerous ceremonies and rituals and a Nearly Fanatical Devotion to The Mooch. ( Bonus 10 pts if you can name that reference). I feel like in 5 years one of us will be interviewed by Dr. Phil and we'll say " And then that was the day i woke up and realized I was in a cult."

Well you never spoke about wood chips.........!!!! I have just started using charged oak sticks to add to a few different whiskies that I think will vastly improve them. One recent addition is a Glenfarclas 105. The acetone smell and taste was a little overwhelming and not what I was expecting. Nothing like the Abalour A'Bunadh, I so love. One month later and the chared oak has made a pleasant difference to it. Well worth experimenting. Give it a go😉

I felt the same way about Old Forester before I tried it. While I liked the 1897, I REALLY liked the 1920 Prohibition Style. at 115 proof, it hits hard, but in a good way. Great... now I want a bottle of the OF 1920, because I finished that bottle before I found you guys and started exploring tasting notes and taking time to really discover the whiskey.

Lately, when I am out and about and ordering whiskey, I always wonder if the people around me are members of the tribe. There needs to be some secret, subtle gesture we can use that can identify us as members of the tribe and give other members a chance to notice. I’m looking to you guys to provide leadership on this crucial issue. Thoughts? Maybe a code word or something we can do with our glass? Will post this question on the FB site as well. Cheers!

Hi guys! I am with you for a couple of months now, and I like this channel very much (I'm also fairly new in the whisky world, just fell in love last summer with it). I decided to write to you, after I heard you read a comment from Austria. Since I'm hungarian (Hungary is the eastern neighbour country of Austria) I thought I might fit in the conversation now :D To be serious (a little): I was thinking hard, what whisky could I sent you, which you definitely didn't try before, and I have 2 options: 1. There is a hungarian whisky now, comes from a traditional hungarian spirit maker, aged 12 years, sadly they say, the quality is not very consistent. 2. Other is Arran, which is one of my all time favourite. They have a 10 year old whisky, finished in the world wide known hugarian 'Tokaji Aszú' wine barrels. Limited, only for hungarian market if I am not mistaken. So, my question is, which do you prefer? I would send one of them, or both if you want, and even some 'Tokaji Aszú' wine if you're interested. Cheers Tommy

Alright, it’s 2020, and I just bought a bottle. At first it just tasted like every other whiskey to me....f**king awesome (I even like the crappy ones). I don’t usually pick up any smell/taste notes other than because I don’t know what I’m doing. All I know is that I’m going to enjoy it. But I’ll be damned if I don’t taste a recognizable apple flavor after watching the first part of the video. Give me some time boys, and I’ll get there. Practice is going to be fun as hell! Just FYI, "reposado" means "rested" in English. So, tequila reposado is tequila that has been "rested" for a short time in a barrel. "Añejo" means "mature" or "aged" -- so the tequila añejo is more mature. "Año" is the Spanish word for "year" (:

Hey guys! First of all, love the show! Second, añejo means aged, not year; the word for year is año. Third, hadn´t asked this question because I didn´t know if you´ve had mezcal; how different or similar is the smokey flavor from the one you get in scotch? Thank you and keep up the great work!

Yeah, that was a mental flub I realized as soon as the camera quite :-) Mezcal is awesome. And as long as you get the less sweet variations, it's a pretty similar direction to peaty scotch. Comparatively speaking.

Hello Daniel and Rex! I really enjoy your content, your my favorite youtubers. I have a question for you, I tend to stick around the same four whiskeys. The only reason I don't branch out is because I don't want to spend a lot of money on a bottle and then end up not liking the whiskey. Do you think it would be a good idea for company's to release sample "nips" of their whiskeys that way people can sample it and then buy the more expensive bottle? I know you can go to a bar and spend 10$ on a glass of whiskey to try. But I'm just saying, I would gladly pay 10$ at a liquor store on a sample nip, and then purchase the bottle if I liked it. Would you?
