Can we have an episode comparing independent bottlers' versions versus original distiller's versions of certain age statements and compare (like an original longmorn 16 vs a Gordon&Macphail longmorn 14)? Or how different distillers in the same line up of a bottler compare with each other (Like two different old particulars that are both 21 yrs)? I'm curious to hear your thoughts on how big a difference independent bottlers make compared to original distillers, and whether the distiller makes a bigger difference or the bottler.

How about a week of suffering? Tuesday a whiskey Daniel hates. Wednesday a whiskey Rex hates. Thursday a whiskey they both hate. Having discovered I dislike severely peated whiskey such as Laprhoaig, I find that knowing what you hate and why is a part of knowing what you like and why. Liking everything is hard to differentiate from having no standards.

Fun Fact about the trees in Iceland. While there are VERY few trees in Iceland, the country has a different source of wood: Due to some weird ocean currents, trees that fall of cliffs in siberia get washed onto the shores of Iceland. This source has been used by early settlers for houses and vikings for ships and this "tree fountain" is still active.

I am glad this came up (seriously have no idea where Rex will end up with this) and I had a thought as a long time viewer. I admit I am what is likely a whiskey noob, I have many bottles of whiskey but I haven't even gotten to try all of them yet HOWEVER I did enjoy the whiskey advent calendar from last year. I have comfortable settled into drinking Johnnie Walker Black as my usual drink of choice, I know, how very basic some of you might be thinking. My thought stems from a comment I heard just yesterday while re-watching Whiskey Vault Ep 141 - 6:00min mark. Would you be able to sample a number of JW types - Red, Black, Double Black, Green, Gold, Platinum, Blue - whatever you can get your hands on to sample, compare AND as it seems to be just a good idea. Mix them all together to see what happens. Somm is glad to sample and compare, Mooch is happy to drink all the types and blend at the end. I seek balance in all things.

Hi, I'm a very long time viewer and first time commenter, I had an idea for a video, a list of "One-Note" whisk(e)ys. I struggle to identify some notes in my whiskeys so to sharpen up my palette I thought you could do a video on whiskeys that really heavily showcase a single characteristic flavour without too much muddling from other flavours. So when you say you get Oloroso Sherry, or Iodine, we could have whiskeys that teach us what those flavours are, rather than buying expensive wine or licking a band-aid. Bonus is that the tribe get excuses to buy more whiskey and we all develop our tasting skills. You're the "experts" so I defer to your good judgement on the viability of this idea. Cheers, Will

I have a generic distilled spirits question. When drinking Cognac or other brandy the custom always seems to have been to warm the liquor by holding the snifter in your hand to transfer the maximum amount of heat to the glass to encourage evaporation I would guess to intensify the nose of your drink. Doesn't it follow that the same would apply to whiskey?
