I picked up this glue note for the first time but it wasn’t off putting or anything it also had a very pleasant vanilla caramel note but also I picked up this faint floral note as well as fresh ripe sweet pears. Not big on JD but this one was extremely surprising!

I am VERY IMPRESSED with this one but then again I really do like the Old No.7 recipe standard whiskey too.... Love the complexity of this one at 45%------upon adding a few drops to a teaspoon of GOOD water the flavors REALLY open up nicely... Nice review Ben!!!!!!

#7 is my fav whisky neat. Beautiful rich low-key nutty flavor. I don't get much sweetness from #7. However, their single barrel select I do - and I enjoy that also. I also find their masters series much more sweeter than #7.

You have to take your hats off at the 45% ABV on this bottle, especially at the price. It’s around $22-$24 where I’ve seen it. Makes me wish Jack Daniel’s offered more up market bottles than the few they do. Would love to see their equivalent to Devil’s Cut.

I’ve found that this rye needs a LOT of time in the glass to settle down on the nose and become more complex. Literally pour a dram, let it sit 30-45 minutes with a few drops of water and THEN smell and taste it. That cuts down on the airplane glue note I picked up on the nose initially and make it more pleasing in general.

Great review! To be more specific - a TN Whiskey has be filtered through Sugar Maple Charcoal. Since the Rye isn't a TN Whiskey do they still use the charcoal filtration process on this product? A better Tennessee Rye is Short Mountain's Cherry Smoked Chocolate Rye. Lots of flavor with a full, peppery finish. Short Mountain also just came out with the first 100% Organic Tennessee Whiskey in the world but you can only purchase it at the distillery as they only made 250 bottles and won't be pulling any more for another two years. It blows Dickel or Jack out of the water.

I do find that banana note too......Almost like spicy banana bread notes.....

Try rittemhouse rye if you can find it. It’s cheap but my favorite of four ryes ive tried so far. It’s delicious.

I like this over regular jack daniels...not as sweet alot more spice which I like...jack is far too sweet and harsh this stuffs actually pretty good.....but yeah if you want really good rye whisky gotta go canadian

@@LSDweeb It isn't a whisky and the bottle itself admits it, its a honey liquer from the makers of jack daniels, next to no whisky in that stuff every whisky drinker I know hates it as do I because it is simply not whisky of any sort. I had it once and poured it down the sink it was so bad.

for me its taste like any other whiskey little more strong though, I can only tell if its strong or light or if it has smoky taste, I don't get the vanilla, cinnamon and shit smell or taste in whiskey. Something seriously wrong either with me or with these crazy dog nose reviewers

I guess my taste is a little bit like yours, to me normal whisky smells like alcohol with just a little bit of notes that make it barely recognizable. But I do think some whiskies are good, they're honest, it's a liquor that doesn't play games, doesn't hide what it has, doesn't make a masquerade. Given that said, I haven't tasted rye whiskey but I'm a hell of curious right now. Personally I think my favorite is Chivas Regal, I can stomach Jack Daniel's but it's not my favorite. With coke it tastes better. Same with Jim Beam. Glenfiddich is another great whisky but after all, I'm an amateur.

someone please help suggest a great cheap bourbon to me. Like among the makers marks, buffalo trace, knob creek JD rye , 1792 , is their perhaps others i might miss?

You could also try out Woodford Reserve or Wild Turkey.
