Thinking about if I should get it but I’ve heard some of the colours are kinda opaque. Is that usually a problem or does it not affect the painting too much? It has a lot of paint for the price and i don’t like changing colours so it sounds like a very good palette.

@@edenisok894 as Russian, I could give advice not to buy White Nights and Nevskaya Palitra products. Now they have awful quality (especially in watercolor in tubes) and also now we have drama on KZbin about watercolor. So, Russian art-community cancelled the brand. @@nursen2106 I finally got the white nights for Christmas and it was like WOW. Now I also have a primary set of Daniel Smith and I would say that they are very comparable but there are things you can do with each and not the other so they are both my favorite right now and I use them together.. white nights are SO pigmented. But DS are very transparent and lay super smooth. I really REALLY want to try shmincke.
@nursen21063 жыл бұрын
@@kathyhackney7950 I think, if you have DS, it is almost like having Schmincke. I guess, the differences are only in very few paints - qualitywise I mean. Now that our lockdown had ended, I wanted to get three of their supergranulating paints. (a real shop). They were sold out. I was sad. Only aftet I went home, I realized, I could have looked up some from DS, because they also have such paints. They are only called different :-D. I think, at least one I could have got from DS. It would have been fine as well. I live in Austria and yesterday I had learned from the QA section on thee homepage of an local artist what he thinks of White Nights. He first had learned about them few years agon in one of his masterclasses. Becaue a student had braught them with him. And he didn't recommended them then (acutally still doesn't when it comes to learning in his classes). Later he had learned some russian artits, who work with them only and now he says, he tried them and now he can respect them. but finds them still unhandy - struggles with them - for his way of painting. That I had guessed already. I did feel cool, because I could tell that before, just by watching his way of painting (which I like I must admit). But I still wonder, what that is, what the russian artist does and how he uses them. I would like to see that from an artist painter - you know what I mean? One who sells his land-cityscape pictures or stillive and such at a good price. Could be low range still. Doesn't need to be a high-priced artist. But not from someone, who actually is more an illustrator. On youtube I only see those sort of painters, liking White Nights. I never know, what to thing about it and how to use mine, because I don't do, what these illustrator type of artists do. I only know, I like White Nights when it comes to painting out a copied flower scetching and I only fill out the colours. :-) then they are super bright - but the painting looks like from a childsbook :-)

@@nursen2106 I do find several of the colors to be very opaque but some are not. I personally won't use white nights yellow for the most part because it's just TOO pigmented. I've been waiting for this video for so long!! And obviously it made me much more happy for some reason White Nights are the base for my watercolor pallet. Honestly, I think this brand doesn't give enough variety of yellows. That's my biggest struggle now, because in my country and city I can't find any replacement from another brands, and even if one day I'll order it, I don't know which one is good, enough lightfast and (hopefully) affordable. Can you, please, recommend good yellows from your experience? (And yellow ochre from White Nights is the worst colour of all that exists from them. Seriously, never try it.)
@kallypea6 жыл бұрын
I can confirm that the White Nights yellow ochre is horrible :D If you get them in tubes and squeeze them out into a pallet, the yellows and ultramarine will just never dry. But overall they're lovely.
@mariusvaiciulis50725 жыл бұрын
@IAmBread a) weak. have to dig hard to pick enough colour (tube is better option in this regard). b) fugitive. it is coloured with PY1 highly fugitive pigment (i use their raw sienna instead, with addition of indian yellow, when needed). c) yellow ochre by other brands just looks nicer (might be because of point a). besides that, in WN palette are some "buy fresh, paint fast" colours, that do get unusable with time. quite fast in fact. like prussian blue, in a matter of couple of years becomes unusable, but nice while still fresh though. mars brown nice colour, but it gets gel-like with time. hope that helps.

It seems like White Nights uses some less common, possibly less lightfast pigments in their paints, though that's not necessarily a bad thing, and that PG8 is lovely to look at! I really love this painting as well! The background texture is really nice, and I love that you added a bit of gouache to the black lines, I think it really made them a more integrated part of the portrait. I personally struggle with wanting darker richer colors in my paintings, and so I overwork them, adding way too many layers until I lose that lovely glow that watercolors offer. Can anyone help me decide? I’m choosing between sennelier la petite aquarelle (£40 for 24 half pans), white nights (£60 for 36 whole pans) or talens Van Gogh (£35 for 24 half pans). I’ve included prices because they’re super variable to the prices I’ve seen everyone paying in videos! Thanks :)

I know this is kind of an old video now, but maybe someone can help ^^ I am currently looking for watercolors and there are so many brands on the market that I feel overwhelmed xD Can anyone tell me if these watercolors lift easily when dry? Because I like to work in a lot of washes and the arteza watercolors I used did reactivate again and ruined the whole painting =/ So I need watercolors that stay put once they dried... are these any good for this technique?

hi, i don't know if this would be of much help since i don't know of any WCs that are known for lifting abilities but the sets i own (white night, van gogh and shinhan) have no problems lifting after they are dry.

They are both excellent. Replacement full pans of White Nights are cheap at jacksonsart.com, and shipping is very cheap. It is hard to find replacement half-pans for the Van Gogh, but tubes are widely available in the US at cheap joes, jerry's artarama, and blick. But whichever brand is easiest for you to get.

I wonder, why people like them, when painting something special or more than just scatches is rather hard with those? so staining and hard to control. I must say, I am not happy hawing these. they now lay around, and every now and then, I pull it out just for a single colour to experiment or to try before getting the tube of a better brand. or for painting small post cards, which I rarely do. hm. I am still curious, on if people stick with those, after they tried other ones. and I wonder, why. the colours might be vibrant. but when painting with them is so hard..?

At art shop I work at now (in Poland) they are quite popular :) I haven't tried them yet myself but I am willing to give them a try. What other watercolors would you recommend?
