Something like the feeling of camping in a tent. Being in a secure structure that is alien enough to not feel mundane like your house, but intentional enough to not feel reckless like wilderness. It's a structure. The space part also provides the feeling of isolation in a comfortable way that is also intentional (unlike any isolation "on earth" which is essentially rejection from your peers and is very uncomfortable). And it being space means there is great distance from your regular life, which of course will automatically be idealized as great distance from any of your problems. These things all add up to a very comforting experience that is psychologically surreal. I got the same feeling the only time I ever got to fall asleep on a plane at night.
@choggerboom4 жыл бұрын
I followed every bit of your analysis in agreement. That’s a complex insight that highlights the underlying structures of how certain aesthetics function and influence psychological states, in which maybe most could never point out in words, but exist nonetheless. Whether you’re aware of it consciously or not. That is fascinating, about us and the nature of mind.

Tent isn't a structure that keeps you safe, any danger can get through the tent walls. It's like vacuum of space, it's there and it wants to "get in". It's up to you to provide the security and combat the danger. Whether it's elements, animals or hostile personnel.

It’s safe to be outside. It’s always been safe. In fact it’s healthy. Sunshine (vitamin D) is restorative. No one should’ve been ordered to lock down inside all Spring and Summer. It was a prison sentence and it did more harm than good. Depression, suicide, alcoholism, child and spousal abuse, even cases of dementia have all increased because politicians and “public health officials” became addicted to exercising control over the citizens. As long as you distance yourselves from infected people who are sneezing or coughing you have no reason not to enjoy life during a pandemic. And you certainly don’t need to wear a mask while walking through your neighborhood or driving alone in your car with the windows up. Wake up and live.

This video and others similar bring great comfort to me and I have my own personal belief as to why. The idea of being in space to me is the best. Space is a eternity of comfort and wonder. It’s where existence all started. Space doesn’t judge you or try to control you. Space is just pure and clear. Dying in space is the best funeral to me. Say you had a spaceship and it were to blow up in space you’d just float away peacefully into the deepness of space. Also say you turned your shop off. You would also float in space peacefully. You might hit a star or the sun or a planet but it’s all peaceful because it’s not a bad way to die. For some of us are home is among the stars and planets and space. If I went to space with I ship I’d never want to return to earth. I’d rather die in space than on earth. Earth is great but space is greater. Not as a competition but as a home and family. It is inevitable that we grow to be in unison with aliens and the rest of space. Earth is just a starting point in my mind. Space just verified that part of your brain that spaces out while you’re in class or whatever else. That unexplainable drive towards shows like Star Wars and anything involving space stations. My dream is to become a legend and join a space force or astronaut go to space and just drift for eternity. Also to live in space and live with aliens on a beautiful planet. Space is the perfect balance of everything. You’re away from all the world problems and troubles while also being in a place that ancient philosophers dreamed of and wondered about. A place that kids dreamed of. And it’s quiet in space and peaceful. You’d be like a whale moving through the sea. So to the fellow dreamers out there and starseeds just know I love you and can’t wait to get to space. For now we’ll make earth as spacelike as possible. I wish you the best. To infinity and beyond!

The glove was bulky but it will improve. Through this you can see Ready Player One type technology by maybe the 2030s. I closed my eyes and thought of earth. The tranquil hum of this shared controlled environment still to this day calms me. Between the rowdy sessions in the cafeteria and the persistent beeping and radio chatter of working long hours on comms, it’s when I return to my quarters that I feel truly at peace. Something about that sound, the white noise, makes me feel like I’m back on my favorite rock. I’ve seen many planets, solar systems, and societies ancient and nascent. But that hum... it smears all those experiences like a palette knife... A palette knife... Why do I know what that is? Up here on this station, thousands of transmissions come in, and not one of them comes from a painter. Is my existence so vast, so broad, that the thought of something so ancient and seldom used as a palette knife dances across my mind, or am I not existing at all? Up here there are no truths, only the white noise that brings us home. Maybe it means something, a code, guiding us to the feeling we had when we slept in the womb. Maybe if I followed that white noise I would be brought back to my favorite brown rock.
