the xenomorphs have to already exist when Prometheus is taking place. the space jocky's ship is thought to of crashed 2000 yrs before alien movie. but how did the xenos come about. r they natural. or engineered. did they come from the black goo or was the black goo manufactured from the xenomorphs. in greek mythos the original gods, the titans, created many deadly monsters before they were overthrown by the olympians. the olympians killed and or locked up the titans and their monsters. maybe the engineers are like the olympians. they overthrough their creators (titans) and captured their monsters (xenomorphs) to use for their own purposes. note that the titans created the Olympians to be similar in both form and power as themselves and looking at the legend of Prometheus a different point of view. prometheus was a titan that survived the war. in vengeance he created humans and then returned fire to us after the olympian zeus took it away. Prometheus was severely punished for doing so. applying this to the engineers. engineers (olympians) had a civil war or overthrough their creators (titans) which looked similar to them but probly had more technology. Prometheus survived the conflict. you can consider prometheus to be a group of engineers or their actual forerunners. this group then creates hunmans as we see in the begining of prometheus. we are created in their image, similar but weaker and slightly diff form. possibly created to eventually overthrough the olympians (egineers) going even deeper with fire being technology. in mythos man had fire. prometheus pissed off olypians so they took our fire untill prometheus stoke it back and then got punished. so prometheus engineers created us. we thrived untill roman age. they tought us agriculture and helped create society as evidence by earth murals shown in prometheus. speculating now: olympian engineers discover what prometheus egineers are doing and they take our fire plunging earth into dark age. conflict happens between the engineers. that happened around 2000 yrs ago. around time space jocky crashed. possibly armed conflict between engineers. maybe the prometheus egineers knew they couldnt win fight so they returned to earth to help us advance past middle ages into space age by giving us back fire (technology) and the spark of innovation. also leaving map to weapon staging area as they knew tgey wouldnt win. they got severely punished. looks like they may have killed eachother off useing black goo or xenomorphs. kind of poetic that the olympian engineers got killed off by creations of the titans that were previously killed off by their own creations. maybe some olympian egineers r still around and humans are getting ready to destroy them like we were created to do so.

Wow. basically a really direct take at linking greek mythology from prometheus(the movie, lol) to the entire canon but it fits so perfectly well. It's somewhat obvious that if you call it Prometheus, you had to have the entire scheme of greek mythological hierarchy(if you can call it that way)in mind, but somehow the idea of the engineers "merely" being "Prometheus" and their forerunners/creators beeing the actual, original "gods"(who had the xenomorphs as their pets, so to say) seems to never have settled in the majority of people's heads. I, personally really cannot/do not want to wrap my head around the "every major party is automatically a different stage of humanoid evolution -theory". It seems too much of a hasty plot filler for my taste. Sure there is something fascinating about such of a big theatralic reveal and one generally likes to have everything work together as parts of a bigger picture - that's just natural for humans, I guess - but on the other hand : where is the mystery? Where to have mysterious origins for aliens, if not in "Alien"-lore? Where to go from there, when more movies are said to come. I just think "Alien" as a whole does not benefit from a plot that aims to end in one big reveal that shows human interferance as the central meaning/turning point of everything in the universe. Thats something for 2001- A Space Odyssey, or others. Of course it has to end with some reveal, sure. They cant just rebrand the same pile of shit 99 times in a row just like Transformers. But Alien does no need that. Maybe just make it end with something subtle but please don't just close it off like a childrens story, please...

I think Scott is trying to finish his vision and do so in a way that no one dare ride this train again so to speak. It gets forgotten but Scott comes via set design/art department path to become a director. He isn't getting any younger, and I think he is just going out working on his favorite and in his mind unfinished project of his. As an artist he wants to explore the mysteries so no one will jump on it and fill in the blanks. Look at the state of Movies today, it is so saturated in remakes and not much original content is being produced, Scott is a part of a slowing fading era of truly brilliant story tellers. I have seen a lot of predictions in anticipation of this just as the last one, I am happy to hear how long it is, it's gonna need it. I don't think David kills Shaw, I think Shaw dies from natural causes, I think David has similar malfunction as Ash did in first alien, and it is why David invaded her dreams the most and would then watch old Peter O'Toole (? not sure) war flicks and is grooming himself. I think the real "villain" Scott has been trying to point out is the same one traditional science fiction was born doing, Technology. All Organic Creatures including the Aliens face the wrath of their own nature via their own "devices and tools". I only know one science fiction "realm" that presents our future in a light where we socially evolved and caught up with our Tech and chose a more responsible future, everyone knock Lucas's Prequel trilogy and no one seemed to appreciate that with all its high Tech, all the same bureaucrats, terrorists, trade unions and duplicitous behavior of organic creatures still exist and there is no improvement on what we already do now other than the the tech.

Predators are tribal, so they don't bother with Ruling jack sqat. Humans are good host for Xenophophs. So rest is history.

Hi all, didn't know this video would get so many views!! Take the religious connotations lightly here. Most of this is not in the movie Prometheus, and was from an interview with Ridley Scott and from an earlier script when the movie was still called alien engineers. Even Ridley said if he was this on the nose, the film would get boycotted. We do see references in Prometheus with the mission happening on xmas, shaw having a religious belief background, and with shaw getting pregnant when she normally couldnt. Some say this is a slight reference to the virgin birth. Ridley didn't want to be direct so its much more subtly done. I think he's just trying to replace gods with aliens and other alien life as the creators in the universe, he is after all a known athiest. He wouldn't be the first in scifi to try to explain the beginnings man by other means than by religious means. ....oh and guys, Predator is in an alternate universe! :) I'm NOT religious and do not offer any of my own views on religion here, this is all taken from interviews and early scripts.

Of course Fox will continue to permit publication of cross over material, it's a money maker but me the cross over stuff is the Alien equivalent of the former Star Wars' expanded universe. Someone posted on this page that the predators had something to do with the creation of the Alien species. It seems that some engineers have been enhanced. They're not just wearing suits... their bodies are armored in a similar way to the xenomorph. So maybe they've been using black goo on themselves. Maybe that's why a Deacon comes out of this enhanced engineer... it's a combination of effects. Maybe David will later continue to experiment on creatures born from and created by black goo until he creates the perfect organism. The xenomorph. I must say I did not enjoy Prometheus at all... but Covenant might be better.

No, the Engineers created the types we see at the end of Prometheus, the Deacon, but not the Xenomorph. That will most like be David's creation imo.

The alien statue/mosaic was on LV-223, but only because it was the natural outcome when the black goo was used to create new life via gestation (pregnancy). It seems pretty obvious that David sees himself as being outside of the system. Mankind and other relatives are all part of some grand, cosmic scheme by a higher "God of Gods" being. But David is outside of evolution, and outside of that cycle of reproduction. Much like the Greek Gods killed the Titans, and the Titans had previously ended their parents ability to have children. This is all about progeny surpassing and ending its creator. David sees himself as the beginning of a new form of life, one that doesn't have the need to spread to survive, or feel pain, or fight for dominance, or ruin the universe. If anything, his kind (AI/robots) might be able to work together to make sense of the universe, and possibly even stop reality from ending in heat death. He needs to end the biological lifeforms, and begin his own era. So David turns Elizabeth into the first Alien Queen, then takes some of her eggs and flies to LV-223 to acquire more of the black goo before heading to Earth. Unfortunately for David, the Deacon alien is waiting for him, and sneaks aboard his ship, killing him and causing the ship to crash on a neighboring planet. This is how the ship ends up on LV-426.

I would like to point out that Ridley only confirmed that the Xeno wasn't made by the engineers. He didn't confirm the same for humans. Also, the Alien-Covenant.com quotes about people above the engineers and all the rest did NOT reveal a source. I only mention it to start a dialogue on what may have happened.

upto now though the Alien vs Predator films are not canon. They are loosely based on the Dark Horse comics. Prometheus actually retcons the AVP franchise. Weyland appears in both films and is killed and this is before a merger with Yutani. By the time Prometheus takes place about 80 years has passed since when AVP is set.

James Bowman Yutani is not Weyland daughter. She is probably the Yutani Corperation Ceo or related to. Yutani Corp is a japanese company that was bought and merged with Weyland Industries. The Skull on Predator 2 was a reference to the AVP comics at the time as Fox had licenced both unrelated franchises to Dark Horse Comics and the at that time had begun to do an AVP comic. One of the reasons why Ridley Scott made Prometheus was he was sick of were the franchise was going with the release of the AVP films. Even James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver had said they would never go back and do another if the AVP film was made.

I'm talking more the alien that ended up in alien. I figured the one on the mural in prometheus was the deacon. I guess I just don't like the idea of anything man made having an influence on the alien. Just feels like it cheapens the original alien. That and the ship in alien was ancient and the pilot was fossilized well before the events of either of these movies.

No I've seen plenty of close up shots of the Mural. It's not the Deacon it's the original Xenomorph. The Deacon is so different because the way it came about was so different. The poisoning of the drink and then passing that on through sex creating a kinda birth of this huge face hugger. On the Mural you can see regular face huggers being applied to human like figures just like the original. So they have already existed.

You're right that it wouldn't make sense but I'm going to have to disagree that it's the original Xenonorph. Its head clearly comes to a harsh point like the deacon instead of the rounded off phallus of the original alien and it lacks the smoke stack tubes that come off its back. Also, the face huggers in the mural are based off of earlier ones that Giger designed for alien that were never used. The one on the lower right has a trunk like structure that drapes over the top of the host's head. and the one on the lower left has a head and a beak like structure that would force the host's mouth open and shove the egg tube or whatever it is down their throat. I think those giant stone heads have engineer brain computers in them (because AI rebels), and that the xeno project was a project to create a perfect cybernetic organism (biological/technological). That's why the engineer was trying to transform himself by drinking the black goo. Also, I agree David engineered the Xeno we all know and love.

I started my youtube channel over a year ago with scifi in mind. But my editing skills, and voice confidence were horrible. So I saved up for sony vegas, and learned to edit while I did a lets play gaming channel to get better. Then time passes, and I see you and theory pop up, as well as all the awesome Covenant news, which lit a fire under me to put what I learned in the real channel finally. Hey, just subscribed to your channel. I've been following your posts for a couple months now and your content is always spot on, well thought out, and well produced. It seems pretty obvious at this point that David, during his ten years as Dr. Frankenstein on Paradise, refined xenomorph DNA such that it now almost identically resembles the classic Alien that we've all come to know and love. At this point, there's a sufficient number of gaps in the narrative that Ridley Scott can easily create another robust film in the franchise that ties everything together into a coherent timeline. It's an exciting time to be a fan of the franchise. So long as Covenant has a strong box office numbers, which I anticipate it to, we can look forward to at least one more film.

hello You are wrong. The entire alien species life has never been explained. The movies Prometheus and covenant show that aliens can be created from the black goo. Whether this is the start of the alien species (goo created by engenieers a long time ago), or a attempt to "bottle" a species as a weapon, I do not know, but the facts are the facts, and here are the facts: 1) the goo can mutate life to ultimatly create the xenomorph. 2) Aliens have been around ALOT longer then 2104, the time covenant took place. They were on earth in "alien vs predator #1 and #2" (time =2001), and it said in AVP that aliens were used by predators to create hunts with ancient civilizations on earth. Aliens skulls were on the Predator ship in the 2nd predator movie. So just from the facts from the predator and AVP movies, you can see that there was Queen aliens before covenant, before david started experimenting. Maybe david is following in the footsteps of the engineers and trying to recreate the alien for some reason. But it remains a FACT that the alien species was around long before the covenant movie. I found out soon after i posted that, that it was not considered cannon. This is very odd to me, there is many elements that are common to both alien and predator series, And to just ignore 2 films that were created with the name Alien vs predator as not part of the universe is odd. why did they agree to make alien vs predator if it was not cannon? Its like if they made Rouge One with 0biwan and yoda fighting and dieing in that movie and just said "its not cannon". why create movies that are not real? dont say money ^-^. I can understand when some start trek movies are done in alternative universe, or stargate, and they always make it clear. This is not very clear. I hope AVP becomes cannon with future movies, but it doesnt seem promising. Perhaps they started with the AVP movies because they would create income, and now are doing the back story for the alien movies (and they also did one predator movie which introduced a civil war with the 2 predator races). I hope It will be connected with the next alien movies, a alien skull was in the predator movie, so predator could be in the alien movies in some form. There is alot that is not explained about the alien universe. *edit- I forgot, the drawings on the walls in the Prometheus movie of aliens, and also the chests of the engineers that were "broken open from the inside" in Prometheus show that the aliens were alive earlyer then the human arival on the moon, what were the engineers running from in the holograms? LOL! None of the Alien movies acknowledge Predators whatsoever. No, they do not share the same universe. The Alien franchise mainly focuses on the Alien movies. None of the Alien movies have ever shown, mentioned, or made a tiny reference to Predators at all. AvP is not canon. Ridley Scott retconned that shit crossover with his Alien prequels. No one cares about those stupid comics. Comic books do crossovers all the time. They're fan fiction. All those Dark Horse comics will be obsolete once Alien Covenant hits the theaters. Predators are fucking garbage. All their movies look like low budget children's movies with shit dialogue full of corny one liners and pussy jokes. Predators are not real monsters. They're considered purely fan service and not only does he not mention them, everyone related to the franchise is reluctant to even mention them. The Engineers are not in two factions. They are not engaged in civil war. There is another species that is more highly evolved than them that they are in conflict with and that is the Space Jockeys. The Engineers in Prometheus were just in disguise for some reason. I haven't figured out why yet. I'm thinking that the Xenomorph will emerge from the Space jockey though at the end of covenant. Given that there is a Morph type creature in the Juggernaut in Prometheus, we have to assume some form or ultimate evolution of them exists and is revered, be it the neomorph or protomorph. I just can't put the pieces together yet.

All this is just pure laziness. We carry the several sequences that are the SAME as bacteria, plant etc. We can't share the same DNA as the engineers, if we did then we would be engineers or they would be human. A chimp is 99% the same as humans, and physically they aren't. This is science fiction not just fiction. Ridley took some writers story (Dan and Ron's) and made it look beautiful, no doubt. That was his job, and he is very talented at it. James Cameron then expanded this by adding the queen (which made total sense, due to all the eggs) Alien 3 didn't add anything, end of story (as alien 4 was shite, and should be ignored). One of the great things about alien, 2 and 3 was we knew nothing. That was the hook. You don't need answers. I'm sick of all these films steering the creation of everything back to humans. Its like earth is the centre of the universe again, and its weak and lazy!

I think what he is doing (after the dna match of engineers and humans) is altering the story so that the engineers are descendants of early humans taken from earth as a worker race. they look different because they are adapted to low gravity and the dark of their ships (pale skin, tall, enlarged pupils, hairless) hence the design pitch being 'future space humans'

+Jack Daw - that was the worst thing they added in that film. It adds a new dimention that isn't required and makes noe sense. There's a reason why no other film did that, because its a stupid idea. However, lets just go with it for a second. You an alien inherets something from its host. In such a short time, how to it know (genetically) what to select? If it infected a cow, then the alien might be black and white or have udders. Does it just effect it size? And if that,s the case then the alien in alien 3 should have been massive, not smaller. I like to think of it this way. An alien queen is in close proximity to the alien gestating in the ox, this (through pheromones or hormonal signals) cause the embryo to negate the slow process and develop into a lightweight, fast quicker version of an alien. More like a scavenger, that once the queen is born can gather stuff for a new nest. This would explain why it was born pretty much ready to rock and roll. Being smaller means it can fit into smaller spaces and requires less nutrition, that the queen will probably need. It needed to hit the ground running so to speak. The Aliens in the nest in Aliens were in a comfortable environment so are small lavae. In the original being small means that it had more chance to hide and get away. Its all speculation of course just food for thought. I have my own channel to vent this stuff out called Xenomorph Universe, not many views but its not my mani focus at the moment. -m

I think it's all about the Benjamins. There are some glimpses of the young Ridley Scott within the movie - the haunting scene when David interacts with the albino xenomorph springs to mind. This is what he was (still is?) good at - creating an atmosphere that suggests deeper meaning. If the characters would keep their mouths shut and stop talking about what everything means, the movie would be partially redeemed. However, this would be impossible, considering that this is a franchise, so it needs to make $$ by making dumb people feel better about themselves and not frustrated by the unknown.

LV223- for me was referring to the alter - only the clean (sterile) could come to the alter (go into the room with the goo). I think that there's a chance that the engineers on LV223 were there searching like we were and were not the ones seen at the start of the film. They were running away in the holograms because they were unclean and the goo changed into monsters for them too.Thoughts?

I think it puts a different spin on the Alien which sort of forces the fan to rethink what we have always thought the alien was. I always thought of them as being something like locusts they come in invade destroy and consume anything they can use and then move on. If this is the way covenant has it set then they are more like what you would use to clean house with. It also reverses the parallel to the Humans are the locusts and the aliens are more or less the bug spray. I bet no fan here ever thought of himself in this way before.

Prometheus basically took every shred of suspendable disbelief out of the franchise for me. I was already shouting "LALALA" with fingers jammed in ears for the AVP era. The engineer twist to the space cowboy just makes the whole thing too convoluted. I do hope Covenant is a good old scary horror movie though, best of luck to them.

The Xenos in the Predator universe are a different strain the Predators created basically he same but their gestation rate is much quicker to speed up the hunt hopfully we see some Preds in the upcoming movies otherwise you can only really do two or types of alien stories

How about other, more practical questions, like why are some Space-Jockeys 2 - 3 times as large as others? Why did they design their space-suits with their own rib-cages? Could it be... that they actually had NO intention of revealing a humanoid looking creature underneath when they first introduced them? Its practical, but unless we get surprised, its a retcon. Ridley has stated that the space jockey is an engineer many times unfortunately. The changed their mind on the "space jockey" between the 30 some years between the movies. Ridley is an athiest, the movies explain away the need for religion, saying that we were simply made by other aliens, is how I take what he's doing in the movies.
