It's like their inner selves talking to them by taking the form of those who beat them. Hans is fighting it, as is Hook. But Gaston knows deep down that it's true, and that's why he's just taking it. And as soon as it ends, he's back on the defensive .

Maybe not their 'inner selves' exactly. More like 'inner authority figure'. Hans and Elsa had pretty much no prior relationship, unlike the other two. But Elsa IS everything Hans wanted: a first heir, first choice, and with the security it comes with. Gaston and Belle: yeah, he's dollar-store misogynist, but he has to admit Belle is smarter than him and knows things he doesn't (want to admit). Peter Pan and Hook: again, they've known each other a long time (why depends on which story version). Agree, each is the source of their downfall and conflicts, albeit obsession is the shared thread.

Very unique way at portraying these heroes as 'villains'. It's not making them evil, just antagonistic in the eyes of the villains. And I like how the main core of this song is that the heroes are calling these villains out on their BS, saying they blame the heroes but it was their own choices that lead them down their dark path. Sure, Pan cutting off Hook's hand was not okay, but Hook still had the choice to not pursue the boy for revenge and continue living his life. Gaston had every woman falling for him yet he let his pride get the best of him and it ultimately costed him his life. But yeah, the interaction between Pan and Hook was my favourite because there's so much complexity between those two. Peter may seem like a villain, but is really just selfish and immature with no understanding of consequences. Hook is definitely sympathetic, but he still did make those evil choices that made him a target for Peter.

I also think that it didn't hit maleficent, because she is not like the rest of them. The song calls out Hans, hook, and Gaston on the insecurity behind their narcissm. Maleficent is not a narcissist, but vindictive. She was wronged and so she is getting even. She is probably the most self aware of the bunch.

He was just very selfish and immature, with no understanding of consequences. Also, the line 'thins them out' is very vague as it doesn't confirm nor deny that Peter kills them. There's a chance he simply just banishes them or sends them back to the mainland. While I do see Hook as a tragic figure who has every right to be angry, he IS a pirate at the end of the day that is willing to murder children who made those choices that got him to that point. I feel a lot of people misunderstand the novel versions of the characters. Hook is not pure evil, but he's still a very bad guy. Peter is not purely good, but does have some morals. He ultimately does has good form on occasion, and he does return Wendy back to London.
