In a divided America, we can all agree that painting ceilings are no fun. If you have to paint the ceiling, you might as well use ceiling paint that covers the best and splatters the least.
Let’s take a look at the four ceiling paints and evaluate each.

Determining The Best Ceiling Paint
Ben Moore Ceiling Paint - Is the only waterborne ceiling paint tested. Waterborne paints are typically more durable than acrylic because they combine the best from alkyd and acrylic resigns.
ProMar Ceiling Paint - is an ultra-flat finish and the good coverage will reduce minor surface flaws.
California Ceiling White - is a low-splatter, easy to apply all-purpose ceiling white. It can be purchased at independent paint stores across America.
Speedhide White Flat - This is not specifically made for the ceiling but is a true flat paint. It has excellent high hiding capabilities.
Results Of Who Has The Best Ceiling Paint
There are four important factors when determining which ceiling paint to buy. Coverage, and being incredibly flat are usually the most important. However, cost and spatter are also important.
As you read the results you can see that there really is no clear winner. Though Ben Moore has the best coverage, it still ultimately needed two coats. All the paints cover the off-white easily in two coats, and none of the paints cover 100% in just one coat. However, all the paints cover white over white in one coat.

Conclusion: If you paint the ceiling the same color, one coat should be all needed for a uniform finish.
However, if you have a slight color change, the Ben Moore will give you the best chance for one coat coverage. Speedhide was a close second in hiding ability.
Regardless of which paint you pick, they all have minimal spatter, and the sheens appear the same.
Finally, as the chart shows, the prices range from $26-$40.00. A gallon of paint typically will cover 325- 350 square feet. So, to paint one coat on all the ceilings in a 2,500 square ft home would cost about $200.00 if you choose Ben Moore over Speedhide or Promar.
