@@robswystun2766 The UFC is a marketing machine. It will give fans what they ask for, whether that's directly or indirectly, because their job is ultimately to make money. If the majority of fans pushed for fights based on merit, then that's what would happen. But instead we see undeserving fighters like Conor remain in the picture, because there's so many dumb fans who don't know shit about MMA keeping his name relevant. The more voices that back great fighters and disapprove of shit-talking hype-merchants, the more realistic it becomes for the UFC to change its business model. So instead of being the type of cynic that will criticise the UFC and still watch it regardless, why not put your voice to the choir calling for the best fighters to get what they deserve?

Gaethje vs Holloway are perfect for BMF title, both had their shots at title, but are still relevant as fan favorites to keep them incentivized with the symbolic title. As far as lightweights are concerned I feel the long anticipated change is about to happen in the top of the division with St. Denis and Tsarukyan being two major contenders. But if Islam doesn't struggle with the weight cut, I can see him defending at least two more times.

The BMF belt should be contested between two fighters who have each achieved a finishing streak of at least three fights. The outcome of the fight should be determined solely by a finish, and not by the judges. However, in the event that the fight does go to the judges' scorecards, there will still be a winner, but they will not retain the BMF title. The fighter will only be recognized as the BMF if the scorecard is notably lopsided, such as 45-50 or a similar score. If the BMF belt becomes vacant, it should be up for grabs for the next two fighters who have demonstrated an impressive finishing streak. At that juncture, the BMF belt should be treated as a legitimate championship belt, complete with PPV points and all associated perks. This approach would significantly emphasize the importance of finishing fights in the UFC.

I mentioned this in a Chael sonnen video on the BMF title and I will mention it here, if you want to keep the BMF title having a lineage you should use these 5 criteria for who gets a shot at it. 1. Can’t be active champion of a defined weight class. Allows for stars that can’t win the official championship to try and get shine elsewhere. 2. Open weight competition 125-265 pounds. If you really have the balls to fight anyone anywhere anytime then put your money where your mouth is and fuck weight classes. 3. Must defend three to four times a year or vacate. Same reason as criteria two. 4. Must have minimum of ten fights in the UFC 5. Must have minimum 5-7 performance of the night or fight of the night bonuses on your resume. The byproduct of these criteria is you incentivize fighters to put on more exciting matches and incentivize them to fight more frequently because they have a fresh path to get to a bigger stardom while also providing clearer benefits for their output and penalties for their lack of output. It is a solid piece of leverage to discourage people from rejecting fights over and over because of the defined penalties for doing so. The other byproduct these parameters can bring is an evolution of strategy within the MMA sport as a whole with the open weight nature of the title as fighters will have to game plan differently based on size discrepancy in the match which would also be a breath of fresh air to the sport

I feel like some people are missing the whole point of the bmf title, all of Gaethjes remaining fights won't necessarily be defending the bmf title. Just like how Masvidal didn't. The next guy in line for it if Gaethje defends in my opinion would be Benoit Saint Denis and not necessarily as his next fight. There aren't actually that many people eligible to fight for the bmf title.

I don't think there's a chance of Poirier getting a shot if he wins but possibly Saint-Denis could if he destroys Poirier. IMO, the priority list is: 1) the winner of Oliveira/Tsarukyan 2) Gaethje (assuming he beats Max, which is almost certain) 3) Saint-Denis if he beats Poirier. Also, we're talking like Oliveira isn't a huge star and a really exciting fighter himself.

I think everyone of those top 155 contenders are in their mid to late 30’s, Chandler is the late part, and realistically with how often Islam has defended so far only one of that top 5 has ever fought him, and I don’t think there’s time to take that top 5 through individual runs before they start either slipping or easing towards the door. In a few years that whole division is going to be unrecognizable.

The point we missed is why in the world did Gaethje accept a BMF fight against Max when Islam made a clear callout to Gaethje to be next in line. Even if Islam is injured, Gaethje could have waited it out and let the dust settle over Oliveira - Arman and Saint Denei-Porier. Max is a risky fight for anyone and if Gaethje loses against Max, he can kiss his title aspirations goodbye and Max can make his 4th title callout vs Volk with the hook as winner takes both belts, Featherweight and BMF.

The problem with the BMF belt as the "fan favourite belt" is that that doesn't transfer from loser to winner. Imagine if Belal Muhammad went down to 155 and beat Gaethje, would that suddenly make him a fan favourite? Obviously not.
