Who Is Credence's Mother? (3 THEORIES) - Harry Potter / Secrets of Dumbledore Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re going to be discussing a few more thoughts I’ve had on the latest Fantastic Beasts film- the Secrets of Dumbledore. If you’ve seen it, you know much was uncovered in the way of Credence’s Barebone’s true identity - and if you haven’t seen it, BE WARNED, there are spoilers ahead!
While it’s true, we learn much of who Credence really is in The Secrets of Dumbledore, some of these answers have led to, well, more questions.

Just because some people generally don't like people, that doesn't mean they can't find attraction with certain people. Snape seemed quite anti-social and wasn't the most pleasant person to be around. Yet he became very fond of Lily and even fell in love with her, though she however didn't return his affections.

Total shot in the dark but if I had to guess his mother was a random witch who also was an animagus that could take the form of…You guessed it… a goat. Which would explain Aberforths obsession with goats and also would explain Aberforths patronus being a goat. Obviously a crazy theory but it also wouldn’t shock me if the truth is something along those lines.

Great theory. Sounds like it should be the case barring whatever new details Rowling provides about the past and the Prince family. After learning that Voldemort's parentage was created by a love potion, I wonder how often that happens in the wizarding world and if it's seen as no different from using the Imperious Curse on someone.

@@MMD_16-95 She hasn't said anything new yet, we will have to wait and see what more Rowling does with the story. Secrets of Dumbledore was supposed to be part 3 of a 5 part movie series and it's not doing that well. The studio has not yet approved a 4th movie. Rowling may have to write the rest of it as a book to finish the story if the studio decides not to make the 4th and 5th movies. The movie series Divergent was supposed to have one more movie (Ascendant a part 4 in the series) to finish adapting the trilogy of books, but the last movie released (Allegiant) did so badly in theaters, the studio cancelled the 4th movie and the story was never fully finished as a movie series.

If I remember correctly, in the movie Albus said, that Credence's mother was sent away from Godric's Hollow, after she got pregnant. For me it's obvious why she had to leave. Not necessarily because she was a muggle and her parents was "afraid" of her child being magical. Credence was simply an illegitimate child. It was quite scandalous back then (keep in mind we're talking about the 1900s). A young girl get pregnant with an uknown, young boy who is not her husband. So the girl's parents had to sent her away to avoid ostracism and judgement. And why America? Maybe the girl had relatives there. Maybe she died giving birth or she just didn't want to take care of the child. We know the woman on this ship was Credence's aunt. We got this information from an official screenplay. You know, this movie showed us that the simplest solutions are most plausible. We were trying so hard coming up with theories about Credence's origin that we just forgot about Aberforth. Fans are definitely more creative than the author herself 😂 BUT at the same time I like the theory that Credence's mother was somewhat related to Gaunts/Slytherins. Maybe that's why he created this unique bond with Nagini? Because he's parselmouth?

The only Gaunts left at that point were Tom Riddles direct family which doesn’t make sense and their cousins in America who also don’t line up timeline wise considering the family line was wiped out at that point besides Martha’s descendants who were all squibs. But they’ve changed cannon before so honestly who knows

THANK YOU. I was going to post the same thing. I keep seeing people speculating as to why she would be sent away as if there needs to be a mysterious explanation. Women who got pregnant out of wedlock were often sent away. Sometimes they returned, sometimes they didn’t. This is just what was done. Aberforth would have had zero say in the matter.

People had sex outside of marriage all the time and women got pregnant out of wedlock. The usual solution was - if possible - to quickly get married to the father. This was usually an option if there was a romance and the father was still around. Trouble would arise if a young woman got seduced and the man simply vanished and left her. So, I would conclude that Credence's mother was really not allowed to marry Aberforth Dumbledore. Such a marriage was in the eyes of her family from Godric's Hollow considered so shameful that they had to ship the baby away. It could be a wealthy muggle family that considered the Dumbledores dangerous and creepy. It could be another magical family that considered him unworthy of their daughter.

I'm more inclined to believe Aberfoth would've considered the girl he fell for as remarkable because she would have loved and cared for Ariana despite being dangerous at the time, she may even have been capable of calming Ariana down when she lost her temper, Aberfoth would have been as obsessed as Snape with no one else quite measuring up. Stories in this world always get overblown like Harry told his classmates, even the most simplest thing become epic.

Actually the woman who took Credence to America wasn't his mother but an aunt. It's likely this lady offered to raise her sister's love child for her, which may have been something Aberforth and Credence's mother reluctantly agreed to because they were still too young to take care of a baby by themselves. Since she was heading to America, she took Credence with her, which lead to their ship going down and everyone assumes Credence drowned at sea, after Leta switched Credence with her brother. So my guess is Credence's mother could still be alive and she might still be living in the UK. Which means in the next movie, she and Credence could meet.

Like you said, his aunt or mother taking him to America, but the ship goes down. Albus did say in the movie that they did not know he was alive, meaning they thought he died on the ship. Albus welcomed Creedence into the family and immediately his powerful obscurial ended and began dying to a major weakened state. As much trouble that Ezra Miller has been in lately, I do not think he will make another appearance in the next film, WB tries to stay away from those that are arrested and such, look what has happened to others in trouble with the law or high profile court cases!!!

The mother being a muggle makes more sense to me. The wizarding community is to small for Aberforth not to have found out and find Credance. Muggle parents on the other hand her parents would have been shamed for there daughter to be unwed and expecting and sent her away to some place in GB to have the child, with the daughter and Aberforth wanting the child her parents had the child sent to America to be away from both. In the end she is either dead, suicide, or in a sanitarium and Aberforth finding out that the ship sank, his girl is unknown, and sister dead he started to greave and went into a depression thus his anti-social behaviors and attitude. Just some thoughts from the peanut gallery.

I hope we see Credence's mother in the 4th movie, characters JK Rowling hinted at in previous Fantastic Beasts movies have shown up in the later instalments. Maybe she didn't want to send Credence to New York she was probably forced too if her parents didn't approve!

Aberforth said that he didn't know Credence existed in Secrets of Dumbledore. So with that said...his mother will remain a mystery. Although I can see him being a Prince since he looks much like Snape.

I knew you are going to do a video about it and this is a good one. I love the idea of the mother being a Prince. To be fair we don't know if Eileen was the last one, no indication that the family was extinct or even that Eileen died before or during the Harry Potter story line. I assume the family has more members both males and females. But I will extant the theory, that Aurelius's mother was from a prestige wizarding family, and they needed to keep this a secret for the safety of their child. Dean Jewel was the first one who said it and I loved it. But I didn't believe he is a Dumbledore at all until I had proof. I thought he is actually Leta's brother in secret. Or that he is a Gaunt, but as we know he couldn't have a Gaunt mother. Maybe in an ironic way Aberforth fell in love with a Lestrange girl. So when Yusuf Kama said he is a Lestrange, he could have a Lestrange blood just not as Corvus.

In last years I saw many times that people thought that Aberforth can't be father because, he "didn't like people" and "prefer goats company". And it's kinda irritating me because... we virtually know very little about Aberforth personality (both young and old one)! It is ridiculous to me to people assumed that he NEVER had anyone, because he is grumpy or loner type. He made one appearance in book, for God's sake! How can we assume that we know character on that basis? I mean... to have a baby one meeting is really enough, and is also a bit madness to me think that he lived for century of his life without any love/sexual life. True, not every person need that, but still most want that things. And we never heard anything from Aberforth (or other sources) that he never had/never wanted have a partner. I always thought he probably had some relationship(s) which just doesn't last any longer at the time of the book 7 story.

Great theory!!! Another one that is circulating on KZbin is related to the fact that in FB2 Nagini seemed to be able to talk only to Credence, which leads one to suppose that he was a Parselmouth - that is, related to Slytherin or Peverell descendants or even the Gaunts (maybe the ones who escaped to America and founded Ivermorny). Another possibility is that the girl was from a pure-blood family and her romance with Aberforth was 'forbidden' - to say the least. Little was known about the Dumbledores in Godric's Hollow and Aberforth had always been seen as a 'strange guy'. A relative of the Prince family is also a good option, as Snape was surprised to hear Harry speaking in Parseltongue (although Ron recognized it, too, but did not understand what Harry was saying).

Whish he was being called by his real name Aurelius. I feel Aurelius's real mother could've been a witch from a family who wouldn't of approved her relationship with Aberforth so when she became pregnant she sent Aurelius away to keep him safe somehow from her family and to protect Aberforth in case her family were to find out he was the father so no harm would come to him even though he was a wizard. Or my other thought i feel could be his real mother was just a normal person that Aberforth seeked comfort from after his sisters death and when the woman became pregnant she didn't tell Aberforth and sent Aurelius away as an infant in case he were to be born with magic.

I would say snape and Aurelius are related. Most likely cousins. But if you think about it if you really want to go deep down a rabbit hole. Snape and Aurelius related then since not much is known about the Prince family if you think about it the original Wonder Woman series takes place during World War II and the name Diana Prince is what Wonder Woman used in both America and Britain to hide who she really was So given Wonder Woman's origins is it possible thit's possible that either snape and Aurelius could possibly have been related to her. But on the other hand since Prince is a pure blood wizard and family and not much known about them or even where they lived where they lived could it possibly be that the Prince family were gypsies,gypsies were basically the outcasts of society either because of their skin color their religious beliefs or they're amazing talents but they scared people and that's why they never were able to stay peacefully in one place without being harassed in some way shape or form. So they were forced to travel from town to town in groups or bands as it's commonly called. So could snape and Aurelius mothers could possibly been gipsies and possibly siblings or aunt and niece. It was not uncommon back then to see gypsies. Which brings me to another question, where did Wonder Woman get the name Diana Prince? was it just some random name she pulled out of the air, or was it some dead woman ,whose identity she was using, and if it was some dead woman ,whose identity Wonder Woman was using. then perhaps Diana Prince ,was originally a witch that had been killed ,because it was found out that she was a witch ,and she was burned at the stake, hung ,or pressed. And given how the Catholic Church was so afraid of witches, a long time ago, is this possible that Wonder Woman got the name from a dead witch. Of course they can't be related to Wonder Woman, because of copyright infringement. but it makes me wonder. where did Wonder Woman get the name Diana Prince. did she pull it out of the air ,like I said ,or was it some dead woman, that was not gonna be missed. possibly a witch.

What about Bathilda Bagshot. She lived in Godric’s hollow and knew the Dumbledore family. She was born sometime before 1873 which would have made her at the very least in her late 20’s when he was born. If this is true then there are some very interesting connections between Credence and other important characters in his life. First is obviously that in 1997 his girlfriend murdered his mother and wore her skin in an effort to kill Harry Potter should he return to Godric’s Hollow looking for horcruxes. Secondly, Credence was always searching for family, and even in the first movie he was closer to a relative than he or the audience could possibly have guessed, Gellert Grindlewald himself. Grindlewald was Bathilda Bagshots great-nephew, he even lived with her that’s how he met Albus. This would make Credence Gellert’s cousin. And given that she was already an adult when the Dumbledors moved to town I can certainly see the controversy surrounding the pregnancy. An older unmarried woman getting pregnant by a young man whom she’s known since he was a child is certainly scandalous in a small country village in Edwardian England. The more I think of it the more I’m convinced that’s who it is.

Aberforth was only 16 or 17 the summer he is supposed to have met this girl and that's very young. To avoid scandal the girl was probably sent away until the baby was born and then they set the baby up for adoption and the girl could return home. That's was usually happened in muggle families. Maybe the baby's aunt was travelling to the USA anyway and brought the baby with her. Credence would then have been born in the spring of 1900, which would make him 26 in the first movie, not 18 as he looked like, and around 32 in the third movie. 26 and still living with his foster mother? Another thing is that I don't think Aberforth knew what happened to the baby until Credence found a way to contact him throught the mirror (how on earth that worked) and I don't think Albus realized until after he had met Credence and learned that he was a Dumbledore. The biggest mystery here is how Grindelwald found out. He didn't know in the first film, but learned the truth sometime during the second. How?

Yeah I could see that. The Dumbledores could have hired her as a nurse or nanny for Ariana. Since she and Aberforth were always around the house taking care of Ariana, they could have mingled and their relationship could have developed into something romantic.

Credence is more like Kylo ren/Ben Solo and Rey having a child together. No but seriously, I choose to believe that Credence is part of the Prince family. You might not believe me, but... there are some theories about who Credence's mother really is. One of them says that the mother could be part... of the Prince family. Eileen Prince was Severus' mother. Eileen was British. And it's possible that Eileen had siblings or cousins who got married and continued the surname. And Credence and Severus look a lot alike physically. Coincidence? I don't think so ;)

It could be that the reason that Aberforth didn't like people was that he'd had an un-happy relationship with Credence's mother, and it further soured his opinion of people. I couldn't venture a guess on who that might have been, though.

If this was a bunch of guess work. On the father side. But what if it's Adriana (the sister's son) and the reason why the child was sent over to America was because of the crime against Adriana. An aberforth would love him as a son. Dumbledores are known for keeping their mouth shut so if you're looking for reasons why Albus never says anything that's why.

I have a theory that's an even darker side to the dumbledore family Albis is gay aberforth may or may not be into bestiality, And an even darker theory about aberforth, the only human he loved was his little sister was aberforth molesting his little sister. And aberforth has the son Aurelius by some random unknown witch .his son is an obscurial aurelius that is .And the dumbledore's little sister Ariana was also and obscurel . Their father was in prison for either harming or killing 3 muggle children And their mom was dead. Was the dumbledore's father a pedophile and was he molesting his own children?????? And if this theory is true that would make the dumbledores the sickest family in the wizarding world even worse than the blood purests. So it would make sense why Albis has to keep so many secrets. And that would also explain why Albis Never really wanted to go home and why he was angry when he had to cut short his trip around the world.

Aberforth is a cold, gruff person as an adult but he probably wasn't always like it. He may have been a loving person early on but all the family tragedies and feeling betrayed by his brother turned him into the man he became. That said, I could see Credence's mom being an ordinary muggle woman. Her parents could easily have forced her to send the child away to avoid the family embarrassment of having an illegitimate magic baby. Lastly, do we know when Nagini was born? Any possibility that she was actually his mother? They were awfully close in Crimes of Grindelwald

Their closeness is more like attraction... For me, Nagini was simply in love with him, it was obvious the way she looked at him or touched his face in their first scene, even if we didn't heard her saying it aloud. We don't know her age (or even how fast Maledictuses are aging), but if she had a child, I think she would remember that and told Credence she has some suspicion. Instead they both were looking for his mother.

Why was Credence sent to America? Because he was born outside wedlock I would assume. Lots (most?) Irish babies born to unmarried mothers at the time were put up for forced adoptions. I find it strange how people don't assume that's the reason...I guess it's a cultural thing. So maybe Credence's mother was from an Irish Catholic family recently emigrated to England.

Could credence be Snapes grandfather?? If he's born in 1901 and Eileen was born In the 30s he could have been her father? And maybe he didn't know the girl was pregnant.... or what if credence and nagini had a baby! And the baby ends up going because of her maladictus curse (would explain why she was absent in fb3) and that child becomes Eileen Prince as mums a snake and noone knows who or where dad is. (This would make Snape Aberforths great grandson and also Albuss great great nephew)

Ok, this is just a thought. Hear me out. What if Aurelius Dumbledore's (A.K.A Credence) Middle name was Tobias Snape. And when he and Eileen Prince got married Albus told Aurelius to use his middle names as his name to protect him. Hence Eileen's last name changing to Snape NOT Dumbledore. Then that would make sense as to why he kept Severus so close and trusted him completely bc he was his great-nephew. That also explains why he is a legilimens and can talk to snakes. As far as Credence's mother she CAN'T be a Prince because that would make Snape's Grandmother and mother related by blood and not by marriage because I just said that I believe that Credence is Snape's father. Which means he would have married a relative if his mother was a Prince.

After what Muggles did to his sister, and consequently his entire family, I don’t believe that Aberforth would have shacked up with one. The Prince theory is interesting, but rather vague. The idea, though, that Aurelius and his mother were on their way to America to be followed by Aberforth later is strong - but does nothing at this point to answer the original question.

I think that the scandal of having a baby out of wedlock, and so young would be the main reason for sending the child away, muggle or magical alike. If Arianna had been older, I would have wondered if there was something unsavory to her and Abreforth's relationship. There are 2 things to consider - Grindelwald knew, meaning he possibly observed Abreforth better than we knew, and secondly - Albus must have become aware at what point? I first wondered if it was him who arranged for the child to be send away.
