The "problem" isn't really the Verne imo, but the Lukari Dranuur Scout Ship, which is a fleet ship and therefore extremely accessible. It is just as good and is also used for dps record runs.

@@gausssto570 Ok as a dedicated EPG boat captain, I will address the 2000 ton White elephant in the room.... The Chekov is a better seated cheaper CROSSFIELD, the Chekov with a LT. Commander Temp ops seat can keep the Chronos Trait spinning and thus a 100% up time of 20% CAT 2 Bonus damage this is something that the Crossfield struggles to do with a LT temp ops seat. The Chekov does offer some build diversity that the VERN, Sui'More, or Lukari Boomerang can not offer because they are built and seated around the ageing uber expensive cookie cutter UNCON uni console meta. Is the Chekov perfect.... NO..... It has its flaws and is lacking in some areas, What can the Chekov do? Well it has adequate seating to use the Uncon/Uni-console meta, but it also has the correct seating to do almost anything that it wants to do as a SCI ship which equates to more higher scale DPS build flexibility. Its a good all around jack of all trades cheaper SCI ship that is more than capable of outshining some premium lockbox SCI ships.

It looks good for solo content, the three rear weapons come in handy with waves being thrown in from all angles with functionally no support. Combined with Five Magicks from last summer I'm thinking a Disruptor ship with a Sci secondary focus would work well. Now if only there were a reasonably priced way to get an extender trait for Surgical Strikes. Also, this ship is by far the best looking of the Wolf 359 kitbashes after the New Orleans. I, myself, was hoping the other three would never be seen in game as they are ugly as all heck. Luckily the single nacelle monstrosity has not made it into the game yet.

The Chekov is the ship with the visuals (both versions) I have enjoyed the most so far, using it in place of the Grissom in my EPG Torp build. Visually I would probably like both versions of the Cheyenne better if they ever fixed the freaking Nacelles on the TNG version; they are too long and should be the same dimensions as the ones on the Springfield, and it pisses me off that they didn't address this.

The Chekov. is very good for EPG builds, and maybe even some Dewsci. Maybe its not as good as either the Verne as you mentioned or the Lukari as others have... but for those who want to look like a federation ship - a current timeline federation ship - the Chekov is the best science ship for EPG that looks like a "federation" ship. Lukari (obviously) does not, and the Verne is a future ship (from the 29th century). The game is currently set in 2409 - the Chekov looks like that. For those who like that and are not DPS chasers- that's great. If you are a DPS chaser - Verne, or DPS on a budget - Lukari.

I think the reasons the kitbashed ships of Wolf 359 have pressed on in some level of fan popularity is this: There were too few Trek ship designs. There was such an appetite for new ship designs to flesh out the fleet, that people became super interested in the weird little kitbashes of Wolf 359 primarily because it said, "Yes, this is a real fleet. There are many different ships in this fleet." recall that until then, you had 2 modern designs, Old Movie era designs, and that one Ambassador from a prior era. The fleet felt empty until Wolf 359 suggested that yes, there are many ships in the Federation's corner of the galaxy.

Hey Gauss, I wasn't paying attention to the community's reaction to the bundle until I saw your title and said "Me, I care. Does no one else?" DewSci has always been my aim for the game; it feels like the embodiment of starfleet ingenuity. Go pick ANY episode in which the hero ship faces a superior foe. They don't survive because of pure superior firepower. They survive with tactics, taking an oddity in their foe's ship or behavior, or a stellar phenomenon, or just doing something crazy to change the rules of the game, and once that gives them the upper hand then they finish their foe off with their weapons. Up until the last year DewSci had been a dead form of gameplay. No one was making serious dew sci builds; in fact some of the best ones I could find were filed under 'theme' and 'off meta'. I would scan the STO Builds community for inspiration and the only thing people would submit were EPG builds that just happened to mount energy weapons without actually investing in those weapons at all. And I didn't blame them, since you couldn't fit enough DEW or EPG to hit advanced content unless you had the very best traits and consoles in the game. Which, if you did have every trait and console on one character, you would be playing some super surgical strikes build or something else completely META. Then this past year, with highlights on advanced science consoles, the Hysperion, and now the 14th. Nearly every event or bundle has contributed a new trait or piece of equipment that's better for a DewSci build than the top equipment previously available for low-mid budget. Yes, it is power creep, but it's power creep that made it affordable for my preferred playstyle to do advanced content. Not power creep that's making the super meta builds and DPS-chasing elties have to open their wallet to stay current. I'm surprised that there is no one else like me in the community that voiced their opinion until this point.

Me. I like this ship & its design. It’s a good dewsci platform and there aren’t a lot of good science ships in the C-store. When they fully revealed the bundle I knew I was getting the Chekov. I have the Verne and I like it very much BUT the Verne isn’t a typical starfleet design. I’ve been flying the Chekov on my sci-toon and it’s been performing well. I’m having fun with it. The only change I made to was using the Galaxy saucer on it.

Design wise: this family of ships shows the galaxy wasn't a one off, and it ends up being great for lovers of that aesthetic (such as myself). Much like how people get excited over TMP and TOS style ships. Stats: I have a Verne, but this feels better suited for dew Sci, and not going pew pew doesn't feel like star trek.

I got one and am enjoying the small, quirky ship as an EPG build. It's a fine enough "Starfleet" science ship. Not all of are us gonna shell out for the Verne or get something that isn't starfleet themed even if technally better. Only really downside is the console clicky is broken atm.

Yes. The saucer and neck are out of proportion to the secondary hull. At least when trying to imitate the profile of the Constitution class. The parts add up in a much better way on the Nebula class, among others.

I was a DEDICATED Nebula Class Driver. I like you fell in LOVE with the Nebula, Especially the Phoenix. As "The Wounded" is also my Favorite TNG episode. I went so far as to Pick up the Fleet Nebula and the Fleet New Orleans class and the Cardassian Keldon with the Galor Skin, because of that Episode. So on my STO account I have the Phoenix, The Rutledge and the Trager..... The Nebula is a good science ship but it saddens me to admit that its just too old in the current state of the game, the Grissom/Fleet Oberth is SUPERIOR in every metric due to the Temp Ops Support Clicky. My Phoenix at T6X2 can only kick out 284K DPS but the Grissom/ Fleet Oberth with the Temp Ops Support Clicky can push out 331K dps using the EXACT same build, consoles and Traits. Soo at teh end of the day the Poor Phoenix sits in Drydock as I cant part with her, but she just cant pump out the damage that the Oberth Does.

I love this channel, it's such a fresh take on a lot of sto things that the other content creators seem to ignore. That said, I think it's funny how worked up people got over this bundle. As you say, these ships are literally kit-bashed garbage created for a blurry viewscreen shot of what the producers thought would be the start of the final season of TNG (before the Borg saved the franchise). I watched a behind-the-scenes video once, and some of the sticking-out-bits were highlighter pens and paperclips, I like one of the consoles and a trait, but every one of these ships still looks like kit-bashed garbage to me, just updated a little.
@Mordakar9 ай бұрын
The problem with the Verne is that it's in Mudd's. That's prohibitive for a lot of people. This will get you the bulk of the way there for the cost of a T6 coupon, and it's closer to the sort of federation "feel" that most people seem to be looking for than the Verne, which while beautiful, doesn't evoke the classic Federation design scheme. The trait and console are kind of meh, but stats wise it passes the sniff test. If you can't afford a Verne, you're not going to go wrong with a Chekov. I imagine that's who it's for.
@LowbrowDeluxe9 ай бұрын

Higher end EPG players like myself look at the trait and scoff. The trait is GARBAGE at the highest end of the spectrum, this is because as Dedicated EPG boat drivers we have already stacked base EPG past the point of diminishing returns thus the Trait is not helpful. At the top end we dont need nor can we use base EPG generation traits that will bring nothing to the table. What we are after at the top end is traits that will expand our CAT2 BONUS damage so as a rule we don't waste a trait slot on the Chekov or Mirror pathfinder Trait and use the trait "Ruin of Our Enemies" instead.

Then you have got your DEW SCI builds like the Crossfields and nearly every other premium SCI ship. Its really about what do you want to get out of your SCI ship. I will gladly help you pick a ship that will suit your needs, but you have got to get me a direction to go in. Are you looking for BURST sci builds that are the current rage and parse really high in structured runs but tend to lack a bit in PUG runs, or do you want sustained High DPS that are more consistent but not as epilepsy inducing visually but take a bit more time to ramp up the damage output. It really boils down to what do you want and what do you have on hand to start the build with. People are going to hate me here, but the majority of ships in Star Trek lately looks absolutely horrible, I could count with one hand the amount of ships that actually looks cool. Intrepid, Kelvin Enterprise, Kelvin Intel Dreadnought, Avenger Battlecruiser and the og Constitution for nostalgic reasons, the Yamato Dreadnought looks ok but not having a proper science seating makes it the worst and most useless ship in game (along with any ship without a proper science seating), luckily the mirror version has better bridge officer's seating. I also think that the DS9 series is the absolute worst Star Trek series ever created, and I hate everything related to it, TNG wasn't great but it wasn't as awful. Star Trek Enterprise was ok and not great either, but completely ruined by the garbage ending. Voyager is the real stand out series, and the og series for nostalgic reasons. Star Trek Voyager is actually the series that got me into the Star Trek online and series, originally a Star Wars fan
