It's the "any horizontal surface" axiom. We've often talked about putting a hoist on our gaming table so that we could preserve the state of play at the end of the session and let others use the surface underneath to do their thing the rest of the week. But that's a lot more work than just taking a phone pic of the action and recreating it the next week.

Birch plywood really does it! I'll be making my new crafting table somewhere in the next month's and I was debating if I do it all out of pine plywood or individual planks... But you just sold me on a birch top!
@Immolate62
@Immolate62 3 жыл бұрын
I recommend against solid wood for any kind of large work table surface. Solid wood likes to move, dimensionally. Plywood, by virtue of it's alternating layered orientation, does not. A 2 inch slab (50mm) would be more stable, but even then you'd have to acclimate it to the room it's going to live in, then joint and plane it if it gets out of whack, then finish the whole thing well to avoid seasonal moisture variation. People do it, don't get me wrong, but unless you've got some woodworking skill and knowledge, it might be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe even if you do.

Wonderful design. Very similar to my favorite wood finish which is (General Finishes) Danish Teak stain and Arm-R-Seal Satin Topcoat on Birch. You started this video with some serious "Hulk smash!" energy. I honestly thought the logo was burnt into the table when I first saw it, such an awesome bit of serendipity from the paint reacting the way it did. Also, glad I'm not the only one that has that problem with nitrile gloves. The frying pan sized hands life has its downsides :P

On the next one, I recommend putting on gloss poly on the initial coats and then satin or whatever on the last coat. Otherwise, each subsequent coat of poly will add a degree of opaqueness that is cumulative with the prior coats. It turned out great though. On the trestle, it looked like the bottom shelf was unsupported. If so, you might want to put some 2x4 supports down there to keep it from buckling.

Looks good buddy! For the price that's a great upgrade for the table. You know, you could probably attach cup holders or dice trays to the underside as well (maybe to the back of the side pieces using some sort of U or L bracket), so that sticky drinks don't get in the way of your crafted terrain.
