Who's got the Fastest Internet? AT&T "High Speed" internet vs. Spectrum 1g internet.

We've been battling some AT&T issues so we decided to try out the Spectrum 1g service. Is it worth the extra money? I do a lot of video uploads, gaming and everyone is watching KZbin. We need to have something with some speed to it. Let's see how Spectrum 1g holds up.

Had Spectrum and it dropped every night and had to reboot. Plus, slow speeds at times. I have AT &T fiber optic and I'm getting close to 490 on wifi. Hooked with Ethernet I'm getting 982. I don't know where you live but fiber is the way of future. I think you said 48 on download? Try 490 anywhere in the house! Old coax can only do so much. Hopefully, fiber optic comes your way. I'm paying $39 bucks for first year , then 59 bucks after. And that's for 1,000 (1g) Mbps . Good luck Spectrum sucks!!!!

It only works out for you because of where you live ATT fiber is available... In general though ATT offers much worse service than Spectrum because most of their coverage around 85% is still DSL.. Well DSL2 with (fiber to block) still.... selling internet over 100 year old copper lines is criminal in 2021.....

We discontinued AT&T for the same reasons you mentioned. Sometimes, we'd be in the middle of something and like a switch was thrown, our connection was lost. Many were the times it took minutes to download. No more AT&T for this family.

I've had gig speed with AT&T for a sec and Xfinity gig also, but what a lot of these companies don't tell you is that they will sell you gig speeds but the modems they provide don't run at that speed. You will have to purchase gig routers and just plug them in to there router creating a LAN connected second wifi network. Did this and I achieved true gig speeds. Now im moving to Spectrum due to building a new house and Spectrum was the only ones with fiber lines.

If you use ethernet cable then you can reach 1 gig if your computer can handle those speeds. Most routers don't do 1 gig wireless because the tech not there yet unless you willing to fork out 500 dollars or more for a router with wifi6e

Agree 100% with Ronnie Maldonado..... its not a good comparison between AT&T VDSL( which is old, dated technology ran through copper) against Fiber. Too bad AT&T's fiber isn't available at your address because they're cheaper and their download and upload speeds are symmetrical at 1000 Mbps. I've had the service 4 years now and literally zero downtime. Thanks for posting your video though and hope your spectrum gig is still doing well for you!

I want to mention one more thing. There are two options they give you. 2g network and 5g. Obviously 5g is faster but not recognized by older electronics. We have an apple airport that everything recognized that is connected directly to the router. So, for the older stuff we connect with the Apple airport. The connection speed is still about 500mps, where going direct is closer to 800mps. I was at 30mps.

Charter spectrum 1 gigabit plan sucks compared to att’s gigabit fiber. It’s almost twice the price for the first year. Att has lower ping and a gig for upload speed, too. Not to mention you get HBO max for free

It’s important to know that att offers internet in 2 different ways copper and fiber based on the speeds he was talking about he has copper...if he would have had fiber then it would have blown spectrum out of the water 1000 up and 1000 down with low ping of 2 or 4 and plus its over provisioned to where u could easily see 1500 if your wired without congestion again that’s only on fiber tho

I've had both AT&T and Spectrum both of them are good for the first week or two and then boom both suppliers slow down the internet speed by quite a bit it's not fair it's not right but that's what the service employees from both suppliers told me, so pretty much you're screwed you'll never get what you pay for.

I know this video is 4 years old but! You said you were getting 35MB download and 5MB upload. Well you are really paying more for less. With your spectrum speed test it showed 755Mb and 37Mb. You see how I have a capital B and lower case b. Your actually getting 75MB down and 3.7MB upload speeds with spectrum. Now unless you meant to say you were getting 35 megbits and 5 megabits from AT&T. The B's play a huge part in what you are discribing. What I found with spectrum was the download was awesome but the upload was subpar thats why I switched to AT&T fiber and I really did my best to avoid them but I am getting 10X the upload speeds than I was with spectrum.

If you are on ATT fiber Charter is not even worth looking at. I was a Charter customer for over 10 years until ATT ran fiber in our area. ATT is full 1gig down as well as 1 gig up.

I'm paying $20 a month for Spectrum 400mbps and it is blazing fast. I downloaded a 1gb file and it took about 1 minute. Unreal. I did a speed test and I'm getting close to 450mbps. Ping is around 9ms. That's more than good enough for me. I'll probably upgrade to the 1gbps plan in the future. I'm sure fiber is even faster. Unfortunately, it ain't available in my area.

Spectrum I had the ultra speed of 500 speed I was only getting between 120 to 140 then I upgraded to the 1gig and only 180 to 200 speed . Don't trust spectrum. Yeah it gets 900 for a moment as soon as spectrum leaves your house check your speed it goes way down

In my area Verizon still has DSL and the only plan options were either 0.5 mbps or 3.5 mbps and I had the 3.5 mbps and they would throttle and cut the internet off for hours at a time. Even at the college that I go to they have Verizon and they get throttled too. With charter I get 400/20 mbps for the same price as the 3.5 mbps on Verizon and it dose not ever get throttled. And in my part of Virginia you only get 2 choices either Verizon or Charter. On top of that I get even more internet than what I pay for since most of the time its 467/28 mbps. Just like you I also have a gaming life so I burn through data downloading games and playing multiplayer.

The fastest speed of all is Fiber Optic, it travels at the speed of light. When these companies blow smoke up your skirt about 500 mega bytes per second being premium for Fiber Optic, that's a red flag. Fiber Optics produce Gigabyte speeds without breaking a sweat. I am having Spectrum installed because they just finished tearing up the neighborhood laying fiber optic. Wel'll see what kind of smoke they want to blow up a knowledgeable persons skirt whe it comes to Fiber Optic capabilities.
