This is standard Nathan awkward humor, and something that while lots of other have done it before him(namely tim and Eric and lots of KZbinrs) he does it best because instead of also being awkward himself and playing into their awkwardness, he remains completely straight faced and talks in a normal loud voice when saying “no that’s ok you can stop thanking me.” Which makes it so much better

The next few weeks presented shock after big shock - the wildcard round meant that one of the contestants kicked out earlier had another chance at coming back (SPOILER: He might go on to win it as well!) One more week to go!
