Redd Foxx was both wildly successful and consistently underrated. Had he been born just 20 years later, he’d be unquestionably in everyone’s top 5 of all time.

I used to go see Redd when he played the Hacienda in Vegas. I still have a couple of his records.

Not a bad choice at all, I thought you were gonna say Gleason lol. Sanford and Son is my favorite sitcom of all-time although Redd's stand-up doesn't hold up as well to me. Eddie Murphy says that he was the funniest person he's ever been around.

No accounting for taste. I loved Redd's standup. He engaged audience members really well. The only act I can think of from that period who was better at it was Don Rickles. There was one joke that Redd told, which is the funniest and most ironic I've ever heard him tell, that isn't on any of his recordings and I never heard him tell again. It raised a bit of a stink.

For me it's Carlin, but, to be fair, I haven't listened to too much Red Foxx. I'll have to remedy that.
