I personally feel like this moment in the song is supposed to symbolize a cry or scream for his name and isn’t the time for one to show off how high she can belt. It almost distracts from the emotion of the song, so that’s why I personally like the ones who stuck to the original notes, such as Idina (who will always be number 1 to me), but all these women are super talented, there’s no denying that!
@nasirroper40116 жыл бұрын
Hannah Apostolico I feel that the high belt actually increases the intensity of the “scream” for example Jessica Vosk’s version shows a lot of despair in her voice but others such as Rachel tucker give off a more angry and regretful moment in the song so to be honest the high belt is actually better for portraying a “yell” or “scream “ in this moment

This is so difficult because ANYBODY who can hit the notes in No Good Deed without modifying is a GOD in my book. It's also one of those songs that as the singer, you want to elevate and bring out your best belts, but it can be easy to overdo it as well. I've always really liked Eden in this song. Something about the strength and almost roughness of her voice really pulls the piece together for me, but she leaves it emotional without overpowering the message with runs or satellite pitches. ❤👍

Whils vocally they all sound amazing, I think it’s important that it is part of a musical and not a stand-alone song, those words have a meaning and by adding too many intricate tails and using it as a point to show off range cheapens it in my opinion, I think the original version sounds best from the perspective of the musical as it fits, however I would happily swap voices with anyone of these girls, amazing, everyone of them.

I don't like how the majority of them took this as a chance to show off their singing range, rather than a chance to show their acting ability. There's plenty of chances to belt high and play around as elphaba and riffing works in the happier/more empowering songs, but this is a dark emotional song. Generally in musicals, higher belted notes are for happier moments (like at the end of the wizard and I and defying gravity), which means it just throws off the mood of the song if you go high during a sad bit, and putting in runs just doubles the distraction from what could be a really emotional moment, and going low(er) during this bit and on the end note of the song highlights how distraught she is and works in contrast to the wizard and I and defying gravity belting moments cause it feels more stilted. Obviously they're all great singers and most of the time the change of the note is probably down to directors choice, but the most impressive versions for me are the one's who stick to the three original notes and nail it cause its fucking difficult.

I love Jacqueline Hughes because at the end she changes it up and instead of just showing that she can hit the high note at the end, she turns it into a scream or cry which just wrenches my heart all over
@RonnieStewartJr5 жыл бұрын
Jessica Vosk nailed it. Kept the resonant (almost) scream note, then brought out the high note at the end. Sounded like an exclamation rather than a high note, and that’s what I love. The emotion!!!!

@AmberSloatpoto4 жыл бұрын
@@nasirroper4011 that's literally your opinion which is fine whatever but I know idina is an amazing singer [my opinion] I have seen it. She is older now but in her prime she was amazing she originated two iconic roles maureen and elphaba.

no doubt everyone here is talented, but let’s take a moment to appreciate the ladies who prioritized the acting of the moment to an equal degree that they held the vocal capability. this song is probably one of the biggest acting moments in the show and i adore runs that reflect the _motivation_ behind the riff

Donna Vivino though not in this video but understandable considering how hard it is to find one of her performances but she is my favorite as far as the Fiyero riff goes. Her acting throughout the song and the way she throws herself onto the floor is phenomenal! I fall in love with the song every time I see her performance of it.

My very first experience with this musical was seeing Jessica Vosk's final performance as Elphaba and I have since become utterly obsessed with the show, so I pretty much have to give it to her. Not the most objective of reasons I suppose, but I stand by it.

I saw Jessica Vosk as Elphaba on Broadway in March and she was stellar and will always be my #1 because of that. Listening to these, they're all absolutely amazing because I know I could never even try to hit these notes, but personally, I prefer the riffs like Idina's and Jessica's, not the modified ones. They seem more powerful and emotional to me.

My top 10 1. Idina Menzel-Set the standard, perfect acting and ferocity. 2. Rachel Tucker-Amazing vocal chords, definitely sets a high standard in the song. 3. Felicia Ricci-Beautiful and strong pipes. 4. Alice Fearn-Sung with passion and gusto, beautifully acted. 5. Jessica Vosk-Beautifully sung and wonderful take on "the Eden riff" 6. Shoshana Bean-Classic, passion, acting-driven take on it, sets the bar high. 7. Jacqueline Hughes-Crazy vocals, the only one to go higher than the traditional riff. 8. Willemijn Verkaik-Classic take on it, beautifully sung, and refreshing. 9. Alyssa Fox-Beautiful take on the note and voice acting, but weak breath support. 10. Myra Ruiz-Amazing breath support, singing, and sustaining, but slightly forced acting. Just my opinion, :)
